Grimsburg (2024)
If you have nothing else to watch....or like cringe
I am about to start a second watch through to fully critique this animated thing.
Not a fan, here is a brief breakdown of what I remember from it;
TLDR; Rick and Morty style animation, with "Edgy" shock and awe toilet humor, that was not entertaining to this guy.
Visual - Very similar to Rick and Morty style art with a more grounded pallete of color. The animation is standard for the medium, nothing stands out as great nor terrible.
Dialogue/humor - This show is very crude, brash, lots of toilet bowl and/or "edgy" jokes. Which done right could be entertaining. However this show misses the mark. Most the jokes feel forced or completely out of place. Some of the delivery is flat, but I don't know of that is from the actors or how they were told to say it.
Plot - I don't remember this at all. How pathetic I was put off by the terrible jokes and such that I cannot for the life of me remember what the show was about other than the pilot. It is a monster of the week style with an over arching plot, other than that no clue.
Free Guy (2021)
Fun Movie if you are able to turn off your brain!
TLDR; Fun movie with good VFX, Pop hit soundtrack, and Ryan Reynolds
I enjoy Free Guy, it is one of those types of movies I will put on if I am doing other tasks and know it won't have my full attention but will have moments that make me chuckle when I need that reprieve from the task I am doing.
****Breakdown****
Pretty solid VFX: some is amazing ,other parts are meh, which appears to be intentional rather than sloppy work.
Sound FX/Music: The switching back and forth from the real world to the game world is seamless, hearing the game sounds in the background is a nice easter egg for those that notice. The original score is nice too. Disney needing to add "top 100" pop songs into everything is probably the only bad thing.
Acting: Does the job.
If you like Ryan Reynolds he plays his standard Ryan performance.
The actors who play Milly/Molotov (Jodie Comer) and Keys (Joe Keery) are above average, their chemistry is hit or miss depending on the scene. I would say Jodie's better moments are when she is in the game world.
Taika Waititi is awful. Not sure if he is acting or just being himself. We aren't supposed to like the character, so I suppose he did that well.
Buddy (Lil Rel Howery) as comic relief does his job, appears to take inspiration from Kevin Hart with his line delivery and voice pitch at times.
Mouser (Utkarsh Ambudkar) was under utilized. Probably one of better performances, even when having to deliver cringe lines. Honestly he should have been cast as the big baddie rather than Taika. As he goes from friend, to suck up, to friend again and does it well.
Channing Tatum makes a cameo and steals the spot light and is quite possibly the best scene of the movie.
Using YT/TT/Streamer personalities was pretty cringe to me, and didn't add any benefit to the film, sadly these individuals were unable to act.
***some minor spoilers here***
Plot/Story-
*Good concept, decent plot, very mediocre execution.
Quite a few plot hole issues;
*One of the real world players asks questions as if they "can feel" inside the game when it is convenient for the story, or do things in the game that are not programmed (which they make a point to state...the kiss is a big issue).
*If someone saved a video clip while streaming, why would said video clip be inside a "safe house" in the game, rather than on user end or a social media type place.
*To delete a game on a server/drive you do not need to physically destroy said items.
*Tapping into every IP Disney has for cheap king jingles to make people cheer is pretty cringe too, and really not needed.
That is about it I think.
Once again I actually really enjoy this movie, it just could have been great. I see it as being something that is not remembered in a few years.
