Preacher: Pilot (2016)

A non-addictive replacement for Ambien

Since I'm not a fanboy of the comic, I can approach this show with a completely unbiased opinion.

It put me to sleep. Four times.

It took five attempts to get through this first episode without drifting off to sleep at some point during the viewing. While I'm sure that fans of the comic are squealing with glee at the prospect of their favourite comic being adapted for the small screen, I sincerely hope that future episodes include elements to make this show .... what's the word I'm looking for ...... bearable. While I'm sure that the show is being faithful to the source material, so far that doesn't speak well of said source material. It's only because AMC has delivered surprise hits like "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" that I'm giving this latest effort the time of day. If it's still anesthetizing me by the third episode, I'll relegate it to the "They can't all be gems" pile.

What everyone has been waiting to see....

Ever since "Jason Goes To Hell" and that final scene of Freddy's razor-clawed hand grabbing Jason's mask and crushing it, fans of the two slasher series have been waiting for these horror-flick heavy-hitters to either team up or square off. In this movie, they do both!

Although the first 45 minutes or so is simply another installment of either series, it really gets interesting once Jason enters Freddy's world and they go at it (no spoiler there; everyone knew they were going to fight - hence the title). I won't go into too much detail of this long-awaited battle, but I have to say that it conjured up images of a slugfest between an evil Wolverine and a homicidal Hulk; one is small, fast, agile and deadly while the other is huge, strong, indestructible...and deadly! Round one; DING!

If you want to see a movie where you can put your sense of reality on hold and just watch an entertaining clash, check this one out.

OUTSTANDING!

Perhaps Joel Schumacher would be willing to take pointers from Sandy Collora on film direction, but I doubt his ego would permit him to even consider it. This 8 minute masterpiece is how the 3rd and 4th "Batman" films should have looked, and more importantly, FELT, had someone with a sense of what the character was all about were in charge. Unfortunately, we were saddled with Mr. Schumacher who is under the impression that silly comic relief; ridiculous gadgets and unnecessary explosions make for a good film. It is my sincerest hope that the powers that be in Hollywood take notice of this little gem and allow Sandy Collora a chance to direct the 5th Batman film before it too is ruined before it even hits the screens.
