Wonderful Tear-jerker

I finally seen this film and I was just blown away at how wonderful it was. The acting was top-notch, Haydn and Kevin especially! I also loved the ending and cried like a baby! I highly recommend that everyone see this!

Disappointed
23 March 2002
Went to see this film tonight. I have been looking forward to seeing it forever (big Nicole Fan!). It was worth seeing, but I was let down with the "big surprise ending" that everyone has been buzzing about. My hubby and I had the ending figured out not even half way into the movie. Don't get me wrong.. Nicole was great in this role and visually, it was great and all but honestly, how many times can the whole "Sixth Sense"-type thing be done? It's just not surprising anymore and it's getting a tad stale...

Good Film

I seen Vanilla Sky for the first time last week and just watched Abre Los Ojos tonight on DVD. I think both movies are great in their own right. I do think it's kind of lame that the movie was remade in less than 5 years, but whatever. I think the acting was much better in the VS version and this made the characters more likable (and I am usually NOT a Tom Cruise fan, but loved him in this role). The thing I liked better in this original version is that they gave more hints as to what the ending really was before the actual ending... in VS I was totally in the dark until the very ending. I don't get why everyone says that in VS that it was like we had to be "spoon-fed" and have everything explained to us.. because they basically do that in Abre Los Ojos too... the man that runs L.E. explains it all to Cesar at the end. So that difference I really don't see at all. If I had to pick one of the two to see, I would choose VS but it's neat to see both and compare and I do give credit where credit is due... this movie DID come first and is a great story and very original idea. :-)

One of my all-time favorites

SPOILER: I seen this film when it first came out and I was 15 years old... it always stuck with me. I guess because the story was a lot like my own life and I could really relate to Mary Stuart Masterson's character SO much. I was best friends with a boy in my class, we were both into music, theater and art and did'nt fit in with the "popular-preppy" kids in school and really did'nt fit in with the "pot-head-troublemakers" either. We just did'nt fit in anywhere.. but we always had one another and hung out all the time. I was totally in love with him (still am to this very day, he will always be a part of my life and in my heart)... well, he just did'nt have a clue that I cared about him in that way and all I ever heard was how much he "loved" one of the cheerleaders. She never gave him the time of day and he still had this "thing" for her... Our story was'nt as happy though, he never found out how I felt for him.. I got married to someone else later on and so did he and we have since lost touch and I have been looking for him. Guess the first time I seen this movie, I liked it just because it was SUCH a good movie but a few years later seeing it, it really hit me in the face and to this day I always watch it whenever I get the chance and remember my friend...
