They totally missed it...
27 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The book was about addiction and self discovery told with Palahniuk's sense of dark humor, but the film seemed to miss that all together and simply tell it like a story, omitting all the symbolism and themes of the novel. First off, I'm not one of those people who are constantly like "well have you read the book, it's much better" when it comes to a film based on a novel, there's a ton of great films that have been adapted from novels, but this wasn't one of them. One of the major parts of the novel was Denny and the rocks. It starts with one, then hes bringing home two or three at a time, until finally it's out of control, showing how he's just trading one addiction for another. The book ends with Denny, Victor and Cherry building the rock structure, building a new life, not Victor hooking up with Paige on a plane. There was much more that they left out, the significance of their job and the stocks, and other stuff I can't remember off hand, I think I'll read the book again, you should too.

Are you kidding me!??!!
11 June 2008
Like most of my generation, I was awaiting the new Indiana Jones, but I also looked forward to the new Star Wars movies so I should have been prepared. Luckily Spielberg lets you know right off that you're in for a joke when Indiana survives a direct hit by a nuclear bomb by hiding in a refrigerator, are you kidding me!?!?! From there on in it's one ridiculous jam after another, including a few plunges off what look like 50-100 foot waterfalls, but I'm sure the jungle jeep/boat of the 50's could handle that. I know, this is Indiana Jones and you have to let a few things go because it is after all a movie, but come on, this was too much. The climax of this film was the jungle equivalent Revenge of the Sith's volcano fight. Too much green screen, no substance, and no characters.

Did anyone else catch all the timeline errors?

First of all, this movie was pretty bad, and on top of that there were quite a few goofs. The main character's boyfriend (I can not remember wither of their names) is using a flip-style phone like most people use, except I thought that was taking place in 1993, fifteen years ago. People had barely heard of cel-phones then, and they were the size of a toaster and only the super rich had them, not some stoner who lives in a crack-shack. And also at his apartment he has a Dropkick Murphy's poster hanging on his wall, that's all fine his character would probably like a band like that, one problem, I doubt those guys were in high school yet in 1993, yet alone having high-gloss posters printed up. So now I need to write a few more words to make this long enough to be submitted. So here I go wasting time typing words that have nothing to do with this movie or review, they are only filling space and trying to make this longer. Is that enough yet?
