War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Great acting anf CGI
I somewhat appreciate the story, but not the logic of it all. I guess you have to suspend the whole belief thing. But the one thing that stuck out to me, and I could never resolve, was the monkeys riding on horses.
I mean, the monkeys were fighting for species independence from humans. But they enslaved horses to be their beasts of burden and war.
It shows the whole hypocrisy of the far left.
As a movie that removed, ok. But the poor tactics in the opening also sent me into disbelief. What ANY military commander goes in single file for a jungle incursion of secrecy. Acting was great, and all, but really have to suspend belief in reality on many things.
Annihilation (2018)
Eh
I cant help but feel this was a pull together amalgamation of many other science fiction movies. Including a major anime Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
Now, if you have never seen said movies, it is not bad. I will give you that. But, seeing so many movies it is pulling from, kind of a let down.
Now I have to meet the letter minimum. OK. If you are not a product of day and age where we grew watching all the B movies and cheesy anime and all, it is a decent movie to watch. But it I felt I could write such a movie if I pulled from al the ones I have seen prior. Not quite plagiarism or anything, just felt like rehashed .
Paranormal Caught on Camera (2019)
Not even worth a half star
Stupidest show I ever wasted 5 minutes on. It is an extremely poorly acted Blair Witch.
Paranormal 911...much more believable. And their experiences, are more the real thing.
I have lived in a haunted house and experienced real ghosts. This, I mean freaking out over a teddy bear falling over? A light in the next room turning on your friend was in?
Just dumb. You would be better spend your time watching the Kardasians. They are more real than this pathetic program. This is worse than Host Hunters, which was pathetic in of itself.
Do not waste any of your time on this earth watching this fake show.
I have been with the real thing, and know how spirits act. This is so fiction in this show.
Elf (2003)
Excellent
If you take it out of the holidays, you may not like it.
But for Holiday season, it truly is an instant classic. Much like A Christmas Story, for live action. It just becomes classic to relax and enjoy, and gets you in the mood for the holidays. Fun, spirited.
Zooey Daschel as a blonde in the shower...whoop.
But it is a fun movie you should share with your children side by side, with A Christmas Story, the Grinch who Stole Christmas (cartoon version) just to get the holiday spirit in you.
Isnt that what it is all about? Getting you in the spirit? That was the premise if you watch all the way through.
Watch and enjoy.
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
How did this show ever become popular?
I hate USA runs this show every morning. I can't stand it.
If it was "US against terrorists" as the title I could maybe think of it more appropriate.
Naval Criminal Investigative Service. That is what it is supposed to be about. But every episode is about terrorists. Never criminal and everyday crimes. That is where it completely diverts from the original premise.
Oh some episodes are ok, and the actors are tolerable. It had some star power for sure. But it is totally different from the premise of a police agency. I mean they bring an LA cop as liaison, and they use him to fight terrorists at every turn.
That is the job of the FBI and CIA, when they are not chasing down parents complaining about LGBQ agenda shoved down their elementary schools kids throats.
National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
One of the best of its time..
Was one of those classic movies that everything just worked.
You get so many of those movies now, they have a good gimmick or premise, but either the acting, writing, directing just does not work. So few of those work today. Chevy Chase, while, i think his comedic schtick was limited, it goes well in this movie. Some future stars in it Michael Anthony Hall, and Jane Krakowski. Beverly D'Angelo. HOT HOT HOT. Back then, why bother with Christie Brinkley?
Like so many good movies, they kind of ruined it with sequels. Hollywood has such limited originality. They should have left it alone, like Caddy Shack. Another classic. Sequel was so dumb.
Titans (2018)
If you were a fan of the New Teen Titans...
...you would love this.
Just got done S3. A few hiccups. But.....
Adaptions are always with issues. I will admit...when I first rented S1...I was initially disappointed with Kory. You have that image in your head, then you see the adaption. Anna Diop, dark complexion..that GARSISH red, purple wig, and pimpish street walker outfit, really threw me. But Diop is a great actress and love her in the role, and when she unleashed, you saw her as I expected, the green eyes and fiery hair. Thankfully they changed her hair and outfits in S2.
Again, in as in adaptions.....this is small screen, so her and many others back stories had to be rewritten. Couldn't have a species of lizards chasing Kory all over.
But really, gritty, the tie ins to all the others in the DC universe, which I am not huge in, they have done a great job over all. I know due to "rights" and all, Cyborg and Kid Flash are not in it right now. I hope that maybe they can work out a deal like Fox and Sony did with Spider man and the Avengers. Maybe not as complete team members, but cameos. Feels a little empty without them.
But overall, if you were a fan of The New Teen Titans like I was when it came out in the early 80s, really great show to watch. Very binge worthy.
Trading Favors (1997)
To find this movie...
To lanamoore..I have found some cheap VHS copies on eBay. Had no luck on DVDs except in Polish.
There were several copies in VHS. I have been looking to.
A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011)
Danny Trejo....
Very under estimated actor, has gone from hard core criminal to comedy. And he is so good at it all.
I love watching him. And I love Harold and Kumar. Doogie Howser showing up in all their movies. It says something about contacts.
The Office (2005)
Just never got it...
Everyone has their own sens of humor. My mother raved on this, and I like Steve Carrell from his Daily Night days, and movies.
But I never found this show funny at all. I have tried to watch episodes on various occasions over the years. And just never found it funny. It is all in our views of humor. This didn't make it that high on my list.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Please kill off Layton....
I can't stand him. Ex-cop turned murderer. I think that is why I could not get through the second season. Because of him. Absolutely could not stand his character.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
How can someone put out a review....
..saying thy loved it, when it still has not been released yet?
Bumblebee (2018)
Very good, and rather family friendly
As a reset to the franchise....it is one of the few times I have seen a total change . Of the main character. From guy to girl in this case. Much like I was apprehensive of Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica.
But they made it work, in a very good way.
Below Deck (2013)
As I watch it more....
I seriously wonder who screens these people. Is it strictly for drama, or some semblance of seamanship? For me, having worked in a hotel...you have an instinct of what is important. MANY of these people, from sailing, to med...seem like they have never worked in any hospitality position, much less a high end one. That includes the Chief stews and Bosuns. I can say, I would not hire a huge majority to work at the local Motel 6, much less for the richest of the world.
Below Deck Mediterranean (2016)
Is a bit addicting.
Probably the only reality show I have ever tuned into, binging as we are still on partial restrictions from COVID.
Fun, young people. Getting to see many locals and different situations, as the Charter Guests are ever changing the situations. The Chefs...well, as a person who loves to cook, I can feel for them. I mean, Stewards and Deckhands....your jobs, though hard, are simple. Doing laundry, setting tables, turning down beds, bringing out the water toys, casting lines, roping off.....those things are not of overly concern to the guests. I think Bugsy had it right in S5...."the food is what the guests are going to remember the most". A lot of pressure on the Chefs, especially special requests and what not.
I was curious though, you once in a while saw the first mate David, in S5, but he is not credited and you see little of him. Curious as to why or if there are others on board you just never see.
Below Deck Mediterranean: Ciao, Napoli! (2018)
S3 Episode 1 was OK
These guest were a bunch of hags. Husband hunting? I would rather gnaw my arm off then be with one of those guests. Old, not very intelligent (not knowing certain food should be served in a bowl). Out of shape and old, grouchy. LOL, now I know why they are single.

Chicago P.D.: Burden of Truth (2020)
Good to see Sean Roman back...
Great ending. Voight did the exact same thing when his son was killed. Though his was even worse. He made the man dig his own grave.
We Were Soldiers (2002)
Great movie if you like history
What was startling was many stars who showed up in really bit parts. This was the Vietnam equivalent of D Day. The wild thing was, Sam Shepard shaved completely. The only bad thing ...was while in PT .....they were listening to an attack half the world away? I have my doubts with that.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
A bit different from the prior Thor movies..
More light hearted, fun nonetheless. A good movie overall. Worth seeing for sure if you have not followed the whole MCU arc.
Not sure for you young ones, but the fight song at the end, while definitely a pumped up song...listen to the lyrics, the song is The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, which is what was actually happening, they were in the midst of becoming immigrants to a new land. So appropriate in meaning.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Equal to the first
But I have to say, Finnick's character was so much more compelling.
From his early flirtations with Katniss, then to his efforts and affection for Magda were so much more heartbreaking. We didn't realize why until the sequels. But by the end, we knew what he was about, and was in the pot from the beginning. But his and Johanna's looks from the time on the beach, and their actions....you knew there was some plot at hand. And that is what made it compelling.
Rogue One (2016)
Amybe 9.5, but it ranks 3rd of the SW series
Some goofiness takes it down, but, the big thing it brought, inspiration, as did A New Hope, and Empire Strikes Back. That was the whole premise of ANH and ESB, hope and inspiration. None of the others got that. Good story telling, but not the same sense of inspiration.
John Carter (2012)
Sometimes, you have to watch a movie a second time to enjoy it.
I grew up reading Conan the Barbarian original series, and the whole John Carter series. I had certain expectations the first go round. The suspension of belief was not one (you need to have it for this movie), but more of the story line as I remembered it. But the second go round, while story not exact, it truly does follow the whole spirit of the books, and is a lot closer than as I originally remembered. Deja Thoris, a Princess of Mars. Thought the title characters were excellently cast, and acting, directing very well done. Was truly a great effort, and underrated movie. If a fan of the books, I think yo do need to watch it twice to accept the few, very few, departures of the books to enjoy the spirit of the movie. If you got into these books, and the sense of when you were a kid reading them, you'll enjoy the sci-fi of this movie of that period of your life with it.
To those questioning to logic of it all, remember, this was all written, in 1912, 100 yrs before it came to screen. At the time, we barely knew how to fly. A good suggestion for nostalgia Sci-fi is, the First Men IN the Moon. Far crazier than this. But it is fun sci-fi fantasy.
The get the emotion of it was, at the end, he had fallen in love with his Princess of Mars, and then separated suddenly, and was obsessed, to get back to the woman he loved, over millions of miles, and he was quite sure how..I actually teared up.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
Good on action..plot...but.....
Spoiler...it was a great concept.
But i never got over how Thomas volunteered to go into the Maze to get the cure in the first (memory scrubed)...but by now...it didnt matter. Watched it 3 times now.....and i dont understand how his memory wasnt restored the first time he was captured. It was like an exploded Total Recall. Also...all these skyscrapers falling in a few hours of battle with primitive weapons? I like some believably even in my SciFi.........gees, Transformers buildings held up much better.
NCIS: New Orleans (2014)
Not bad....
I was a huge NCIS fan, but it has dropped off. NCIS:Los Angeles....I can not stand. Not much "COP" in the show. Always seems like it is all international terrorists gotta save the world.
NCIS:NOLA seems more like the original NCIS roots, investigations with normal crimes.
As far as injecting NOLA culture in it too much, well, you have to understand, down there, they consider themselves like a different country. Lived there, loved it. Small city. Smaller now then when I was there. But as a show, the episodes I have seen are much better the NCIS LA. Though CCH Pounder, still have a hard time with her. Nothing per se, just used to her on all the L&O defense attorney episodes.
