Outlier (2020)
Slow, very slow
It's very very slow. A bit too slow many times to be honest. It's hard to feel any build up or suspense and it comes through like a slow drama more than a thriller.
The main character is quite annoying which is a real problem. She should have some redeeming features, but from the get go I disliked her and almost stopped watching. I wanted to give it a shot though, so kept going.
It's not all bad though. Some good acting from some and the story is ok. Be prepared for the very slow tempo though, not kidding.
You get the feeling they have glanced at how the british make their crime-series and movies. They also move in a slow-ish tempo but make it a lot more interesting and build suspense way better!
I wanted to give this a 5/10, but I have to take away one point for the main character and the actor they choose.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Swing and a miss....really a miss
I like Margot as Harley Quinn and she does a decent performance. There's a few fight moves that are ok. And that's all the good things in this movie sadly!
The plot is thin...wafer thin....you can hold it up and see through-thin!
And it's all over the damn place!
Huntress could have been a great character, but no deveolpment and a missed opportunity!
Some people and critics say the fight scenes are fantastic, amazing etc. Did we watch the same movie? If you considered this great fight scenes, you must have missed so so so so so many movies which actually HAVE fantastic fight scenes.
It's half assed at best. Most of the times you can see the attackers waiting to get hit, sometimes half stopping attacks so Harley and the others have time to execute a move!
Pathetic!
The police station fight scene. Really? She would have gotten shot in about 5 seconds.
Dialogue? Slightly fun sometimes, but mostly awkward.
I could go on but at the end of the day this is just not a good movie. In a way a bit like a really really bad attempt at making a Deadpool-esque movie.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
Difficult to rate
Well now. You can judge it as just being a family/kids movie, and if you haven't read the books, this might be quite enjoyable. It's quite "safe". There is some nice CGI.All in all it's hard to find anything offensive at all with this movie. They made a kids-movie (and the books are not). And judging it for that would make it around a 5/10 maybe even 6/10.
If you have READ the books though. You are most likely wondering what the *beep* you are watching! Not much is done right I'm afraid! I'm not going to list everything wrong. Just be warned if you are a fan of the books, you will not like what they have done here!
This should never had been made as movie, unless they really did a movie chronologically (which they definitely did not!) of book one and the move forward with a new movie for book two and so on.
Or, and I really wish they had gone this way, they should have made this a series on either of the streaming platforms.
With a decent budget this could have been a fantastic show I believe!
The best char in the movie is by far Lara McDonnell as Holly Short. In fact she is the only one that feels right for the role, and her performance is on point. So hats of to her.
Space Force (2020)
Comedy? Sci-fi? Really?
Well lets start with the sci fi bit. Depending on how you would define sci fi, this can be considered a bit sci-fi or none at all. For me I say none!
Comedy. I guess if you want to watch this with your family, children and basically anyone at all, sure, that would work just fine. And that is the main problem. There is no one who would get offended by anything in this show, and there in lies the problem. It's just not funny! This is comedy lite. Really lite!
Sure it's a jab at the current administration in America, but I don't think even a hardcore fan of that administration can be offended by this. The few, very few moments that are slightly amusing is thanks to Malkovich's character to about 95%. The rest can be spread out over the rest of the cast includning Carell.
I guess they tried to make it a comedy with a bit of drama in it? Then go watch the old show Eureka. They did this, but 10 times better!
I guess the only ones I can recommend this too are families with small children that want to watch something "safe".
What Happened to Monday (2017)
Spoon fed sci fi with poor execution
No spoilers in this one so you can keep reading.
I gave this a 3/10 to balance the 9 and 10's. I'm not sure we watched the same movie to be honest?
The dialogue is wooden and bland at best, most times is quite horrible.
Noomi has done some great performances, this is not one of them. Maybe she did the best with the script, dialogue and the direction she got, I don't know?Sometimes she is doing an ok up to fine job and other times it's a bit cringeworthy and mediocre to be honest. It doesn't help that her english still after all this time has a big shining sign connected to it that says: "Hey, I'm from Sweden".
The twist and the mini-twist are so easy to spot you could be sitting playing something on your phone half the time and still see it coming a mile away.
Everything is glossed over and rushed through, so you don't have time to get to know any of the characters, therefore i'ts hard to really care that much about them.
A few plot holes and some really stupid things that really lowers the grade.
If you're looking for really light entertainment and can overlook all of that, sure this might be the one for you.
Medical Police (2020)
Awful
How the....did this get past a pilot? I guess they were going for some kind of absurd comedy. But that takes a good script, and actors that are great delivering funny lines. This has none of that! I wanted to turn this garbage of after 5 min, but I decided to watch the whole episode to give it a chance.
If you a specialized taste for really bad comedy shows, this might be your thing.
Personally I think even Leslie Nielsen would't have been able to save this drivel!
Man of Tai Chi (2013)
If you're bored and really have nothing else to watch, it works I guess
Warning. Some of what I'm writing below, could be considered spoiler!
Well we all know that Keanu ranges from bad to appalling as an actor, and this is no exception! He goes from overacting to wooden in every scene he is in and after a while you actually start to cringe and frown as soon as you see him appear, in anticipation of what he will "deliver this time". His fighting skills are not completely horrible, but it's not enough to deliver a decent fight scene against even a moderate fighter in a non-important scene in the movie. To fight in the final showdown? Oh, dear Lord....no no no! The final fight, even though it was sadly predictable, turns into a yawn-fest and quite frankly I found myself laughing at how ridiculous his fighting and acting was here.
The movie itself is a mish-mash. Keanu tries to put: culture, old vs new china, a "new" fighting style, a touch of love story, police corruption, illegal fighting with cameras and .....well it keeps on a bit more. Lets just say he tries to put in a lot of stories and angles into this movie, which is always hard to then tell properly, and in a fighting movie it gets almost impossible. The fighting scenes are OK, some are quite good, but the story leaves very much to be desired! It scratches the surface on a lot of subjects and leaves most of it hanging like broken webs in the wind. My expectation for this movie was quite low, so it didn't have to deliver much to make me pleasantly surprised, but it failed miserably.
There's so many b-movies with way better fighting than this, and better acting too I'm afraid, so no....don't watch this unless you're a Keanu-fan. You'd be better of watching an old Van Damme or Jackie Chan movie for the 15th time =)
The Call (2013)
It starts good.....
OK, it starts out quite good. And then becomes better. Great suspense, believable story and solid performances by the two lead actresses. Then small stupid things starts to happen, which are annoying, but you can still live with it (not going to say which ones so no spoiler alert).
Then comes the last 15 min or so of the movie. Oh boy! Talk about dropping the ball. All credibility goes down the drain completely!
Did they run out of money for the writers? From being a quite well made suspenseful thriller, it turns into something a 15 year old novelist without talent would write!
It kinda feels like two different directors shot the movie. 1 good who shot everything up to the end. Then they ran out of money and hired a no name guy to shot the ending for a 6-pack of beers. Then they just edited the whole thing together.
Rock of Ages (2012)
Rock?! of Ages....
Well...first of. This is Glee gone glam-rock/AOR. Apart from a G'N'R-flirt, the closest thing to hardrock you will hear is 1 Whitesnake and 1 Scorpions song. This will give you an idea of what too expect!
This is supposed to represent the music scene in LA, with focus on Sunset Strip around 1987. Really?! Are you kidding me?! Several of these bands had nothing do do with the "scene" there and so many that SHOULD have been represented are not!
Performing wise then? Well some of the performances are that bad, but most really aren't that good. Meaning; a real singer can role outta bed 3 in the morning hung over and having smoked 2 packs of cigarettes and still sing better, but the actors do OK. The huge problems is no feeling....90% of it have absolutely no feeling at all. When it comes to that it sounds cold and clinical with zero attachment to the song they're singing. Maybe I'm biased here since I'm a musician myself, but I really expected a bit more than this! Make me belief that you BELIEVE in what your singing about. Gimme some emotion here......alas...none! Honestly I couldn't even see the whole thing without hitting fast forward to get past to most embarrassing parts. If you are a Tom Cruise fanatic you might enjoy this. If you love musicals, sure...why not. If you grew up with 80's rock, hardrock, heavy metal....well no.
If you want a rockmovie that beats this by lightyears both acting and performing wise...see Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston.
Rock of Ages?! Yeah....right!
Chernobyl Diaries (2012)
It had potential...but.....
Great settings and atmosphere. It starts out quite OK. Sadly it takes a turn for the worse quite quickly. Yes, it's a horror movie. People are gonna act stupid and without logic, i know. But, there's a limit for everything and here they went past it. Since it lacks any really scary moments at all and the acting is horrible, there's just no forgiving things to save this movie. I sat through the whole movie just waiting for something, anything at all that would make me stop yawning and looking at my watch but no. Iv'e seen scarier things in my fridge. No suspense, no developing of characters or plot, no explanations, no build-up. They had a real chance to build up a really creepy eerie movie here and they completely missed the mark! If you get scared by this, you probably got scared watching Tangled or Cars too.
God Bless America (2011)
Brilliant
This is one of those movies that will never win a single Oscar. It will never be nominated. Some people will hate it and start inflamed debates about politics and some will love it and will get into the debate to defend it. We we're 4 people who watched this. All of us live in Sweden. We come from different backgrounds with very different political opinions, views of life...so fort and so on. What we all had in common here though was this. Most of the things could easily be related to Sweden. And we all loved it! It's dark, bizarre and twisted, with a gooey center of nougat =)
It's not that the acting was amazing, nor was the script, or the photography or the.......you get the picture. The thing is that when you put all the parts together though, something amazing happened.
If you expect a romantic comedy you're gonna be severely disappointed. This is social critizism mixed up with really weird dark in-your-face "what just happened" messed up - comedy! There will be no toilet humor or Will Ferrel playing the same role he has ever played in every movie he has ever been in (love it or hate it). This is a movie where you will shake you head in understanding and laugh at the same time while someone is blown away!
So, now you know somewhat to expect. I'm not going to explain what this movie is about or give away any spoilers. I want you to experience every aspect of this movie without knowing to much in advance, should you chose to watch it, and I hope you will. =)
An American Carol (2008)
Complete crap
This was an incredible disappointment! I have seen some bad comedies but this one made top 10 very fast. I could rant on here for a long, long time about cheap shots without finesse, bad acting and many more things since this movie is basically to 99%, constructed of complete crap, but I'll simply sum it up like this....It's not funny at all, it's just embarrassing...period!
Since I have to put more words here to post ill simply do this....
Now when you have come to the bottom here.....
I can guarantee......
This is actually more fun than watching this movie.....
Yes, it's really that bad......=)
Psalm 21 (2009)
Not bad at all
Why does this movie have such low rating? It's definitely worth a lot more. First this is a horror movie. If you expect Oscar winning dialog, well you are watching the wrong type of movie. If you expect every little detail to be correct or that they don't speak the correct dialect for that part of Sweden, don't watch it. All movies have mistakes let's not forget that. Now let's look at what we have here. It's quite a basic set up for a horror movie, no real surprises there. The acting is over all good to very good. The main actor is on the verge of overacting from time to time especially in the beginning but he pulls it together. The storyline isn't hard to follow, but you have to pay attention though. For a horror movie it's actually quite good. Compared to a lot of "horror" movies out there this is actually one of the better ones in the last few years. If you like the American style "everything is explained to you so a 5 year old can understand" this might be to tough for you. If you like the Asian style "the movie is over and nothing is explained and you have to guess and try to puzzle it together for hours", this might be to easy for you. This mixes both of those and finds a nice middelground of storytelling. There's so many really awful horror movies that has gotten way better rating so I'm surprised that this doesn't have at least 6/10. Intentionally I haven't summed up the plot or written any "spoilers". Others have already done that and I really want you to give this movie a fair chance without giving anything away.
