Columbo: Murder, Smoke and Shadows (1989)
Rubbish
The murderer Alex Brady ( Fisher Stevens ) is a cocky spoilt brat
and deserved to be taken down. He is completely inept in trying to
cover up the his murder. You would think being a movie director
he would have handled his cover up much better, it's also an
insult to make any comparison with Steven Spielberg. If Spielberg
was anything like the fictitious Brady, his career would never have taken off. And the murder victim was extremely dumb and
was frightened of Brady despite that he was out for revenge.
Mr Fisher's sister died in a motorbike stunt for one of Brady's
films but instead of trying to get help for the girl that might
have saved her life, he ran away like a coward. He got his just
deserts. But the ending of this episode was ludicrously over
done. Not as poor as Death In Malibu but pretty much down
there.
Columbo: Murder, A Self Portrait (1989)
An artists harem
Barsini the artist enjoys dominating his women but then murders
his ex-wife just as she's about to run away with her lover. There is
jealousy because he wants to keep her along with his currant wife
and his model lover. But this is not the reason he kills her. She was
a witness to an earlier homicide committed by Barsini but vowed
never to reveal his secret but then she starts having nightmares
about the original murder. But as her lover is a psycho analysist
he fears that the truth will come out.
But he knew she has been a patient of her lover even before they became an item so why didn't he murder her much earlier.?
It was remarkable how his currant wife and lover hated each other but then they had a sauna together and remarkably seem to like each other. Then they both leave Barsini in a declaration
of independence. So Barsini loses his women and his liberty as
he's arrested by Columbo. But in most Columbo episodes the
women seem to be too dependent on men. The only women that are in control are themselves murderers. I was disappointed
that the body of the earlier murder wasn't uncovered.
Not a great episode and does not compare with the best of the
later Columbo episodes that being " Undercover "
Me and Luke (2006)
One of Hallmarks best Xmas movies
Alongside Christmas Note and 12 days of Xmas Eve ( the best fantasy film )
This is one of Hallmarks best films. A young father fights for the custody of his newborn son while his ex-girlfriend wants to just foster the baby
out so she can go to college aided by her manipulative mother. Matt gets support from his granny and Bert a retired lawyer.
As with Christmas Note, this film deals with real issues unlike most of the cliched Hallmark Christmas movies.
A young man taking on the role as mother and father to his baby son is reminiscent of the film " 3 men and a baby. An exceedingly watchable
film.
