Reacher (2022)
Never read the book
Having not read Reacher i am far from being able to offer an expert opinion. I will start with what i dont like about the show. For one it deals it vigilanteism which should be enjoyable but the characters offer have stale dry smug remarks which takes away from the momentum. Some of the dialogue is downright cringeworthty, like they could have had chatgpt write better scripts. I also feels the show belives there are cliffhanger moments but the flow just seems to endlessly roll to the next killing scene.
I do like the characters although some of them are corny. Reacher himself is likeable but just is a heartless killer for the most part. I still loved watching the show but it never really felt unpredictable. Im sure the true reacher fan will scoff at this review but i just felt like offering an honest review.
Crimes Gone Viral (2020)
Dizzying
Most of ID channels shows are entertaining. Some of the crimes here are interesting, however..... As other user reviews mention, they seem to work with minimum footage of the incidents and then flash to boring analysis or retelling. I recall one expert saying something like "there could've been crazy bloodshed". Yea no s**t. Most of us are ID addicts we expect that. This show repeats 10 seconds of footage at least 5times during an episode. Normally I don't even care to review murder shows but this was so bad. They squeeze two events into each episode and I find myself skipping ahead only to be further disappointed. I just decided that I'd rather see if there were any reviews to support my impression. Clearly there are.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Maybe a 3 or a 4 star idk...
First Keanu is one of.if not my favorite actors in Hollywood and he seems ageless. I've always sort of wondered why he never returned or put together a shakespeare film since much ado about nothing. Well clearly what shakespeare offers this film lacks and vice versa. I agree with the other users lower end scores....not to say I'm sure everyone hope john wick 4 would be mind blowing but it clearly has several flaws including the run time. What really got me the most while trying to watch this was the script. It seems like every character is espousing some brilliant insight into the nature of reality when in fact most of the dialogue or monlogues are non sensical. Perhaps I'm just not in tune but it almost.seems like none of the characters are capable of communicating with each other coherently and so even when an actor is supposed to sound witty or omniscient it is somewhat unclear who they are trying to convince of their all knowingness...the audience or the other actors or the director??. Either way I don't think anyone is buying it. Overall the major flaw is the dialogue and lack of ability each character has to communicate effectively and coherently. Essentially each person's lines sound like a speech not as if they are talking to anyone in particular.
The BBC Television Shakespeare: Romeo & Juliet (1978)
5 might be harsh but....
I've been watching all of the bbc renditions of Shakespeare's plays. For no reason whatsoever I started backwards so this is about the 6th or 7th play I've watched. My initial disappointment stems from expecting it to be the 1968 production which I falsely assumed was a bbc production. However since this one is bbc I expected much more. Mercutio in particular appears to be in his own orbit. His energy is off the charts but not fitting for this play. He rushes his lines at least twice as fast as every other actor. I noticed that Romeo eyes are dark and sunken, based upon aesthetic alone he is a poor choice for Romeo. Juliet too is not very attractive and her acting doesn't make up for it. Although my critique is based upon rather superficial criteria it is hard to look past while watching this for 2.5 hours. I just watched Timon of Athens and although it is not as well known the bbc production was outstanding. Overall my review is harsh but in summary there is at least one better version out there and that is the 1968. It will satisfy the deficiencies that this bbc production has. I only plan to review further bbc productions if they are excellent or somewhat poor.
