Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist (2023)
Best Adaptation Yet...
...because it incorporates all of the current events, archetypes of world leaders and technologies into the storyline.
I loved the updated Buck character and the redux of what the Eden Project was all about. It was also nice to see how apologetics was used throughout. There was a balance of action and depth.
The only reason I gave it a 9 instead of 10 is because a couple of the supporting characters were a little weak. Plus, (I watched it at home via Prime) whoever did the subtitles mislabeled several things. Some were important. This needs to be corrected.
I definitely hope that Sorbo continues with the series. I'll be purchasing it if he does!!!
Nefarious (2023)
As a former actor...
... who has now become a Believer (due in part because of reading CS Lewis) I appreciated this picture for multiple reasons. FYI - Steve Deace considers this somewhat a sequel to Lewis' Screwtape Letters.
Flannery's performance is absolutely Oscar-worthy. I cannot remember watching another actor who's ability was that phenomenal. The intensity and intention in his portrayal of both Nefarious and Edward was spellbinding.
As a Believer who came to faith because of Apologetics (the reason and rationale for the faith) the way this film was written was spot on.
I saw it in a theater when it was first released and just watched it again on Prime. The second time was even better. That tells you all you need to know about a movie.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Time's Orphan (1998)
One bad choice after another
I agree with what many reviewers say about the idiocy of sending "18 year old Molly" back into the portal... to be alone forever.
However, in my opinion the most idiotic statement of the entire episode comes much sooner. It is when Dr. Bashir (when explaining why they can't send older Molly back and retry getting her back at the age she fell in) said: "then no one will grow up to be this Molly. You'd be erasing her existence."
Every single time I watch this, my reaction is:
And so what?! So the horror of spending 10 years in isolation without any contact would be wiped away! The O'Briens seem to accept it without a single objection!
The irony is that's this is what ends up happening at the end of the episode anyway!
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Just.... sad.
I literally watch TNG, DS9 & Voyager over and over and over. When I get to the end of the last season of each show, I start all over again. I could even watch these series with my 9 year old niece. They all had values, a moral code of honor & (mostly) clean language.
Dear Writers: are you trying to offend and ostracize any & everyone who may have a difference of opinion in worldview than you?! I lost count at the number of times a character said G. D. And your portrayal of ICE agents is unrecognizable to what they actually are. (Unless something drastic changes in the next 2 years.)
You shamelessly shove your agenda down our throats - something true ST writing never did.
I'm saddened & disappointed at the direction of this franchise.
I guess I should be thankful I have 7 seasons of TNG, DS9 & VOY.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Explorers (1995)
RE: the ship storyline...
I LOVE all of the Star Trek series. And can look past many scientifically improbable storylines.
However, in this episode: HOW would the Bajoran sailing space ship been able to get past the atmosphere of Bajor to make it into outer space?!
