Happiness (1998)
what is happiness
9 August 2003
All the roles in the movie had been regarded to be happy or say admired by others at least once! While actually, they all felt unhappy themselves. That is the point: we tend to be aware of what is annoying us however neglect what we already have which made us happy.

Frankly, I like this movie better than Magnolia for the story goes very natural. Every minute caught my eyes. I laughed when the roles laughed, while sometimes I still laughed when they were weeping. It is absolutely an excellent dark comedy but it really made you think.

Live Flesh (1997)
lives with living
3 August 2003
like most of Almodovar's movie, Great music, nice cinematography and strange plot and roles make up this movie. Though victor suffered a lot since his born moment, he still cherished his kindness. It is not surprising the two women fell in love with him. He deserved the end after those hardship. And the two policemen also got what they deserve. However, I feel a little bit sorry for Clara, who was dead long ago in spirit. She was prisoned by his husband with whom she had no feeling at all. She died for Victor who was her best love. I was really moved when she picked up the book and saw Victor as a little child in the picture which She kissed goodbye to. She loved all of him, from the time he was born. Anyway, they used to have a good time together. Almodovar is good at presenting conflicts in society. like the trailer says: all the desires, jealousy, lust and obsession made our lives with living.

pure love
2 August 2003
It is seldom to see such kind of pure love on screen. Though their parents made lives into a mess, still their love are growing quietly. Their chasing in the forest under the moon light is such romantic. And the last scene, so touching, and his mother, so understanding. All the songs in this movie are such warm, pure and moving which made this movie super.

Fight Club (1999)
what a movie
1 August 2003
I have heard of this movie for a long time, however until recently, I got it and regard it as one of my best favorites. This movie hold my eyes from the beginning to the end. the opening credits is illusional just like the hero himself, though at first I did not notice all those shining wires are the axis of neurocytes which are transmitting signals. I divided this movie into three part. The first part is delighting. With the hero's insomnia, we explore his life in a unique and bizarre voyage . The second part is shocking. To feel walking on the edge of death made me hold my breath. I felt those guys are really made of steel. the last part is surprising. Like the "a beautiful mind", after the viewers had totally believe the existence and logic of one role, the director would tear him into pieces in front of eyes and made yourself thinking: what you see is not what you get. The last scene is romantic with great power. It is a mind-blowing movie, which made you think what the meaning being alive.

unbearable lightness of different kinds
17 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
though it runs nearly 3 hours, I did not find it tedious at all. On the contrary, I wished another hour of plots coming up before they subsided in the car accident. It was all because this movie caught my eye and my mind so tight that I felt myself merged in the characters.

Tereza can't bear Tomas' multiple sex partners, she can't bear making love without being in love. Tomas can't bear the thoughts oppression. He is so self-conceited. Sabina can't bear the plodding life. She is an artist who need changes to inspire. And all this ended by the accidental death. There would be no more unbearable things in Tereza and Tomas just like their loving dog.

When people alive, there seems to be so many unbearable things. We are agonized with these. While the death came up, what is more lighter than the life of being?

So, I am grateful to the director that they are in happiness leaving all unbearable behind before they left.

A must-seen movie, not only for its superb romance and beautiful scenery but also for its philosophy. 8.8 out ten

We are born to be alive
14 June 2003
No other movies could make me depressed as this movie did. After I finished it, I had to catch a deep breath and shook my head to make myself get out of the shadow of Selma. Do not want to talk about the logics in the movie though there were some plots to question. Just follow the director's will and feel the music and dance with Selma. The movie were well shot with bright color and good music. I had thought Selma could face the death peacefully. However, it was turned out that " better live than to die ". Struggling to be alive is the instinct of any creature. We are born to be alive and we should be grateful for being alive.

Sabrina (1995)
romantic and warm as coffee in the summer afternoon sunlight.
27 May 2003
I have heard of this famous movie for long time, until today I borrowed it from a friend. After I finished it, I decided to buy one to be my favorite collections. Although Harrison Ford was not young when he played in this movie, still I found him attractive. Julia Ormond, like fairy, white pink with simplicity and elegance, was hard to deny. The most moving part should be the time Linus revealed the "lies" to her, the change in Sabrina from happiness to sorrow. I can even feel her sadness, the loneness. I felt really sad though I could guess out the happy ending. It is kind of movie like you've got mail, my best friends' wedding, which make you laugh but moved. love in this movie was romantic and warm as coffee in the summer afternoon sunlight.

you got to have the right mood to appreciate it.
4 May 2003
Before I bought it, I got no idea what the movie would be like. After I saw it through, I got some pieces of advice for you before you see it. First, and most important is you have to get right mood to see it.The movie is not like usual Hollywood movie, it is actually a sort of European movie style, delicate but a little bit slow. So, you got to have a peaceful mood, and seeing it at night alone will be better. Second, enjoy the music, the jazz in the movie as much as you can, they are great and touching. Third, do not think the logic during seeing the movie. Take the movie as a story, make yourself sunk into the essence of it. During looking at the movie, I found Max got some disease on his eyes. You can check it up yourself, whenever the camera shoots at his eyes, they were always shaking.

Free to live
22 February 2003
To have a trip of totally different life with the hero is kind of enjoyment. Life is made up of choices. That is what the movie tells us. However, a firm idea that we believed in can be changed easily by little things, and what we really want may be not worthy of pursuing. Only after thousands of choosing can we be aware of what we really want to be.

magic triangle
26 October 2002
I like delicate European movies as this one. From the beginning, the polts caught my eyes, and the atmosphere was so calm just like I am walking in a central park alone. It is not hard for anyone to find Eric's eccentricity comes from his poor childhood which lacks of love from family members. His father died early, his elder sister left home, his mother was always in anxiety.

Eric are bisexual as I see, at least, he does not refuse homo-sex. At the end, you will find this magic triangle: Eric likes the girl and the boy, the boy likes Eric and the girl, and the girl( although she is tied of homo) likes these two men too. What will happen when three burning hearts come together? Check it out. It will refresh your mind!
