Fantastic biopic, a must see
12 April 2024
I was really impressed by this movie. The acting was superb and really bought home the reality of fame.

I found it very moving and the lead actress was amazing in her portrayal of a fiesty yet very vulnerable Amy. Her voice was unreal too.

The soundtrack was brilliant and this was a totally immersive cinema experience.

I was close to tears a number of times. In her short life Amy touched the hearts and lives of so many people.

I know a lot more about her story now and appreciate how tough her life was.

The relationship with Blake was troubled and the film gives an insight into how toxic it was.

She loved him with a passion which engulfed her and took over her life.

Having seen the accolades Bhomenian Rhapsody got, this film blows it out of the water.

In Marisa Abela a star is truly born.

Fantastic story and sound track
11 February 2024
This series was brilliant. I've just binge watched it because I needed to know what happened.

The ensemble cast were perfect and each character had a well rounded and believable story line.

The two leads were amazing. Their characters were superbly written and they delivered their lines with humour and compassion.

Watching this series bought back so many feelings from my own life and I imagine most viewers will identify with some of the situations.

I laughed and cried and genuinely felt the emotions the characters went through.

I also thought the sound track was one of the best I've ever heard to complement the drama.

I won't spoil this for anyone but if there's one tv series that's a much watch it's this one.

Fans of Firefly lane might enjoy this too.

Very good prequel
6 February 2024
I'm really enjoying this series. It's interesting enough for me to wish I could see it all in one go.

The storyline is good and Tamsin Greig is a revelation, playing a totally different character to her usual type.

Deedee is at the heart and soul of this prequel and lights up the screen whenever she appears.

Teddy played by Stephen Moyer is a real nasty piece of work, but believable.

One particular scene with him in at a nightclub was horrific and I personally don't think that it was necessary. The character is menacing enough and I think that was overkill.

On the whole the series is so good I'm now in the process of watching the original movie the series is based on.

You can't really compare the two. Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley are 2 huge character actors and nobody could be as good as they were.

However I would definitely recommend this series.

Great scenery
29 October 2023
I'm enjoying this show. It's lighthearted following in the steps of Death in Paradise, and the scenery is amazing.

The cinematography at the various locations is superb and really makes me want to visit all the ports they've been to.

It doesn't take itself too seriously and this is all for the better.

We don't always need dark, gritty crime dramas every time.

The sunshine helps too, especially in the middle of a UK year of mainly rain.

When it's miserable outside it's good to watch a show like this.

Shayne Wards wardrobe is full of multi coloured linen clothes and they look great. The costume designer has done well.

The stories have been varied and some of the dialogue has been funny.

What's not to like.

I hope there are more series.

Made for Drama
20 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched the 2023 series and it's clearly made for drama rather than to actually find the participants their ideal partners.

Some of the couples were definitely not well matched and if it's obvious to the viewers, why not to the experts Georgess was not shown in the best light in his introduction to the show. Most women watching would have found him boorish and belittling to women.

Peggy clearly has her guard up with him, and doesn't want her intimate relationship played out in public.

He seems to be saying what he thinks she wants to hear.

Tasha started off as being a really nice girl but is now being portrayed as a mean girl. I suspect this could be due to the editing cutting out the reasons why she is behaving as she is.

Roz and Thomas seem really genuine and I hope they stay together.

Where do I begin with Ella and Nathaniel. He seems like a decent guy but it was immediately clear they weren't well matched. I would imagine Nathaniel was looking for a more genuine, honest match.

Ella has been a worrying watch. She seems completely wrapped up in herself and oblivious to the meaning of 'girl code'. Describing herself as a girls girl she attempted to brazen her behaviour at the dinner party, to Bianca.

Bianca was the star of that episode. The way she stood up for herself was amazing and I was almost cheering at the tv.

I really admired her for her stance, but feel she should have known she was wasting her time on JJ.

At the introduction to the series, JJ, appeared to be a dynamic and fun guy. I think he was so intent on not giving Bianca any inkling that he liked her, that his personality was hidden.

I've read that the programme lets Ella and JJ continue as a couple and I feel that's wrong.

They've behaved deceitfully and shouldn't be rewarded for it.

The latest couples seem ok but I'm expecting sparks because of some fundamental differences in outlook and personalities.

Jay has been a lovely girl throughout, caring and genuine. Unfortunately Luke doesn't seem to be the right match for her.

Laura and Arthur seem an unlikely match, being so different.

Brad and Shona were so wrong. He came across as manipulating and gaslighting. Such a shame Shona had to deal with that.

It'll be interesting to see how the series plays out, but I think a lot of the participants have been placed in damaging relationships which will continue to affect them long after the show ends.

Best new comedy drama in a long time
15 July 2023
I've just binge watched this show and loved it. The characters, writing and music were superb. From the first episode I was invested in the characters. The story lines were inclusive and diverse and totally believable.

I can imagine most of us can identify with the situations some of the characters found themselves in at times, when it comes to relationships and I laughed with them and felt their pain when things went badly for them.

It was a glorious celebration of why it's right that people should be themselves and not have to conform to stereotypes.

I loved the fact that important issues were raised but not in a lecturing judgemental way.

I really hope this series is renewed because it's a long time since I watched a comedy drama which was a joy to watch.

To me it felt like a modern day Sex and the City, in the respect that it's groundbreaking and conversations took place which seemed genuine and real.

The writers of the sex and the city sequel 'And just like that' ended up writing unrealistic, lecturing scripts which just don't ring true. They could learn a lot from the writers of Survival of the thickest who have nailed it.
