The Hill (2023)
Very Powerful Story
I just saw this movie in the theater today, and it was fantastic! The script was really good and they did a great job of making it as close to what really happened as possible. Dennis Quaid was great once again and I really liked the way they handled the character development in his character (going from strict, stern, my way or the highway to realizing the error of his ways and accepting his son's plans), and the final scene with him reconciling with his son was very moving. John Smoltz playing a broadcaster during the finale was an unexpected and interesting touch. Also big props to Colin Ford doing a great job playing Rickey Hill and I also loved Randy Houser's character and the song he wrote for the movie. 8 out of 10 and I loved it!
The Alamo (2004)
So underrated and under appreciated
This is one of the best war/historical movies ever made! The cast is fantastic, the storytelling is phenomenal and the battle sequences are great. Billy Bob Thornton did a great job of playing Davy Crockett, Dennis Quaid did great playing Sam Houston, and the rest of the cast did great also. While the film is not perfect, it still is a great depiction of the real events of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. I think the film does a great job of doing justice for those brave souls who gave their lives in San Antonio in 1836 and may they be remembered forever more. Great film, 10 stars out of 10, and most importantly: Remember the Alamo!!!
The Great Escape (1963)
One of the best World War II films ever made
This movie is fantastic, from the all star cast to the brilliant storytelling to the amazing soundtrack, this movie has everything you could want in a great movie. I loved the fact that some of the actors in the movie (Pleasence, Garner, Coburn, etc) actually did serve in the real war back then and the fact that Donald Pleasence actually was a real prisoner of war just added to the realism of the story. While some details are a little bit different compared to the actual events, it's still a brilliant depiction of the real story. Also the famous Steve McQueen motorcycle scene was awesome too. 10/10 stars and I would definitely recommend it!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
The best video game movie ever
I was very pleased to see this movie on the big screen and it was a blast! Easily in my top ten favorite movies of all time. This movie took everything the 1993 movie failed to capitalize on and made it a million times better. The references and easter eggs to other Super Mario games throughout the movie were amazing and I caught most of them. I also loved the 80s songs they picked for the soundtrack and the cast was great. Jack Black was a great choice to play Bowser and he had me dying laughing in the peaches song. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day were perfect as the Mario brothers and Anna Taylor-Joy and Seth Rogan were great too. Brilliant movie and I can't wait for a possible sequel!
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
The best one of the series by far
All of the action scenes are masterpieces and car chases are fantastic! Not to mention the fact that the idea of John Wick having to do a duel to save his life is also a great story element. The ending is also really cool and it gets me thinking that he is secretly still alive and that he faked his death to live a quiet life somewhere safer for him. I look forward to the fifth and final movie of the series and I can't wait to see how Keanu Reeves brings the franchise to an end. Also loved the villain celebrating too early and getting himself dispatched in the process. Also RIP to actor Lance Reddick who passed away a week before the movie premiered (1962-2023).
