Srecni ljudi (1993)
The best Serbian series of all time
"Srecni ljudi" might be known for its notorious re-runs, but the series is Sinisa Pavic's magnum opus, despite most people thinking it's "Bolji zivot". The uncertainty and hardships of the 1990s Serbia are captured the way they really were and while lovable, most characters have flaws that they do not overcome by the end of the show's run. Most characters go through various events, often in pursuit of money and stability, solely to end up back at square one. Those who do end up being rewarded are those who suffered the most and, with the exception of the next door neighbour and the protagonist's daughter, they are all minor characters.
Mocvara (2020)
Ridiculous
Serbian cinema has always been vulgar and full of unnecessary swearing, debauchery and nudity that is not relevant to the plot whatsoever, but now it transitioned to TV, apparently. The second season scene that irked me most is the one where the female police detective casually has sex with a suspect, everything but genitalia visible, and then reporting that she gathered whatever information from him. This is just one of the authors' bizarre fantasies, sleeping with suspects being a part of the job of a policewoman and all. Come on, what century and what genre is this? The excessive swearing and constant watering down of the plot is a given.
