Arcane (2021– )

I wanted to like this so much!

Visuals? Beautiful!

Voice acting? Excellent!

Writing? Awful.

And I just get more and more disappointed as it drags on.

If you like this, by all means good for you, enjoy!

De gustibus non est disputandum!

But it's really bad.

Avatar (2009)

Impressive visuals, but that's about it.

Warning: Spoilers
I'll give James Cameron credit, Avatar is visually spectacular. But that's all this movie has going for it. It's too long, the characters are one dimensional, the plot is predicable, and said plot has gaping holes in it.

This movie could easily have been forty minutes shorter. It dragged often.

The characters were all stereotypes, and not one of them ever acted against his stereotype. I was never surprised by any of them.

The plot was a string of clichés and contrivances. Some of them were visually surprising, but that was it. Otherwise I was practically able to check them off as they turned up.

As for plot holes, I'll mention three: 1)Terraforming three Earthlike planets and bioengineering life to populate them with would be trivial compared to traveling to another star. 2)Ever hear of shaft and drift mining? Go in underneath the native village and they'll never know you're there. 3)Are you capable of interstellar travel and have a surface target to wipe out? Just drop a rock on it from orbit. It's called a kinetic strike.

Best Vietnam War movie to date.
18 September 2002
From the lack of gasoline explosions in place of artillery fire, to the telling off of peace-niks, this film is no doubt the best Vietnam movie yet. My favorite scene involves a man trying to find out who saved his life...soldier, to sergeant, "I asked everybody who got the dink that was on me and numb-nuts, but no-body did it. Did you?" Sergeant <grins>, "Maybe he died of natural causes." Soldier, "Christ, half his head was blown away." Medic <scowling and smoking a cigarette>, "Sounds like a natural cause to me."

Gorgeous

If you like old airplanes, you'll love this movie. Seeing the B-36 and B-47 from the POV of people laying eyes on them for the first time was a trip. Despite it's slightly stilted propaganda dialouge, this is a film well worth watching.
