R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned (2022)
I Can't Understand Why People Don't Like This Movie
I actually liked this movie better than the original RIPD. Jeffery Donovan is very entertaining. I believed his character. I liked the fact that the deputies' personas were two black women, who had no standing in the community. And I like the sympathetic character played by Jake Choi. Some reviewers said that this movie was the same as the first movie, only worse. Well, it IS called RIPD 2 for a reason, so naturally it uses the same template. I also think that comparing the two casts is a problem. If you just watch without prejudice, I think you'll enjoy the movie. Like every other movie that involves fantasy, you DO have to suspend reality for the duration. It's a good, fun movie, so just enjoy.
Hiding Victoria (2006)
Ordinary
I watched this movie, because I'm a sucker for down and out people finding themselves through new relationships, but I was very disappointed by almost every part of the production. The storyline IS good, but the writing is very predicable and the acting uninspired. The characters were mostly 2-dimensional, with the combative, misunderstood teen, an embarrassingly stereotypical gay couple and a party filled with beautifu and handsomelbackground actors. The only actor who sold me was Avery Sommers as the probation officer. At times I felt like I was watching a college assignment to create a Hallmark movie. But I do have to give them credit for a good try at dramatizing important issues.
