Solid and entertaining if not spectacular.
25 December 2008
Many other reviewers have pointed out the obvious flaws of this movie (the lack of character development, and story line) but I think if you just sit back and watch this movie for what it is you will be surprised. I have come to like this movie very much, and worthy of watching more than once. The scenery throughout much of the movie is beautiful, and the acting is well done by the actors with what they were giving. The main characters are all likable, and there is nothing overly objectionable to this movie. It's a simply made movie, with very good special effects. I would even go and say it may be a decent family movie for the older children (13 and up). So I would say definitely give this movie a chance and maybe a 2nd look too. I found that I enjoyed it far more the 2nd and 3rd time around.

Outstanding film..movie magic at its best here.
25 December 2008
At first when I went to see this movie I didn't expect it to amount to much more than your average foreign horror movie, but boy was I surprised. As it turns out this is one of the most magical, and brutal movies i have ever seen. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. The scenery and setting of the movie helps add to the brilliance of it.

The acting here is strong from start to finish, and there is a haunting similarity between this movie and Alice in Wonderland..just with a sick and twisted turn of course. This is just a wonderful movie start to finish and it doesn't disappoint. If you are a fan of Legend you will be a fan of this movie. It has that same haunting dream-like feel to it.

A Must see!

The Mist (2007)
10/10
A chilling tale
27 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have to start by saying that The Mist is so much more than your prototypical horror movie. Throughout the movie there is just a chilling aspect to it that you can't put your finger on. With most horror movies or movies of this type you watch it knowing that there will be some kind of breakthrough and that the good guys will make it, however in this movie you sit spellbound to it, knowing that they are fighting an extremely uphill battle that is likely not to succeed. There is not any one character that dominates this movie to me, but instead its a good ensemble cast that each adds to to the mix. The Mist itself just lends to the mystery of what is coming after them. The way I looked at it was that the mist represented our fears..the fears that we just can't see but we know its there..lurking in the shadows. In closing this is a pretty good movie that may leave some feeling just a little bit colder.

Saw V (2008)
5/10
Not as good as previous installments
26 October 2008
While this is still a watchable, well acted movie that continues on the Saw tradition well I have to give it a lower rating because it just was not as good as the previous installments. The plot and the traps that we have come to be surprised by seemed to be a more predictable and rushed along by the makers of the movie. It seemed like this movie could have just been tossed in with part 4 to make one big movie as the prequel to the next part. So to me it seemed like the studio just split up 1 movie into 2 parts to capitalize on the profits....which they have done well I might add because myself and many other movie goers packed the theater for the 5th Saw installment. So in closing I think this movie may be adequate for the die hard saw fans, not nearly good enough for new comers, and winds up lacking far more than it gives. That is why I can only give this movie a 5 out of 10

Quarantine (2008)
9/10
Worth watching
14 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
At first glance you might think that this is just another run of the mill horror movie and although the elements of scare and suspense that it uses is for the most part the same it works here. Jennifer Carpenter is excellent...actually a nice breath of fresh air throughout the movie. The other actors are all average. Other reviewers complained about the shaky camera but it really is not as bad as others make it out to be. You always know what is going on, and while the cause of what is happening is never said out right you get a good enough sense of what happened. So I would say that this is a good movie to go see if you like horror /suspense, or if you just want to see a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Happy Halloween folks.

Very good family movie
29 October 2007
The cartoon network is not my normal source for Sunday night movies but when I saw the previews for this new movie based on the R.L. Stein book it reminded me of my days of reading Goosebumps and decided to give it a try. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised as it was a fun movie with its share of spooky moments that children will love around Halloween time. The acting by the kids is well done, and Emily Osment (of Hannah Montanna) is great in the lead role. I recommend this to all parents wanting to watch a spooky movie with their kids. The version of the movie I saw was a special version in which Emily Osment did commentary along with the movie so that was pretty interesting too..I am not sure if this is on the DVD version but if it is it's an added bonus.
