Crocodile Dundee (1986)
Solid Movie
Crocodile Dundee is quite simple with its humour and it's not as memorable as some other 80s comedies but it's still worth a view and is a fun film. It doesn't rely off of constant sex jokes or potty humour, it has some nice jokes to it that don't overcomplicate things.
The story is great fun. It's an easy watch and is good to forget other goings on in life temporarily. The acting from Paul Hogan is great. When I first saw the film I wasn't too impressed with Linda Kozlowski's acting but rewatching it lately I didn't think it was that bad. I think the film is better than the rating gives it credit for. Overall a solid comedy and one of the very few romcoms I enjoy.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (2017)
Awful
Before anything else, I do not think the cast change for this film was a good idea. The original cast had great chemistry and genuinely seemed they could be a real family. It is not like that at all in this film.
I'm not the target audience for this film being middle aged but I don't think many kids would be impressed with this film either, it's terrible. The scenes drag on for way too long and the humour is just gross and there is nothing worth laughing at. The plot is wafer thin although it slightly reminded me of National Lampoon, but without the charm and humour. The first 3 were decent films but the same can't be said of this one at all.
Wayne's World (1992)
Brilliant comedy!
Wayne's World is undeniably a great comedy, Dana Carvey and Mike Myers were entertaining in the TV show skits but in the film they really shined. The music in this film is absolutely brilliant and timeless. The acting is good and everyone really seems to enjoy being in the movie. I cracked up at many of the scenes in the film, it serves it's purpose as a comedy so well. The head banging scene is one of the most iconic film scenes from the 90s. Loads of iconic quotes in the film as well, some of the lines still pop into my head to this day. I think the IMDB rating should be a little higher, it's definitely the funniest film of 1992 and possibly all of the early 1990s.
Airplane! (1980)
Arguably the funniest film ever made
Airplane, is for me, the funniest film ever made. The whole thing is bizarre and there's not one dull moment in it. The story is daft and good, it certainly works for this film. It's incredibly funny and still seems to have held up very well (in my opinion anyways)
The acting is superb and the timing at which the jokes are said is spot on. It's really hard to fault this movie in any way, it's just the perfect comedy. The ZAZ trio do an amazing job at making the audience laugh their heads off. Leslie Nielsen's style of humour never fails to make me chuckle. It's a legendary genre defining film and everyone should see it ASAP.
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
'You might not want to destroy the world, but I dooooooooooo'
I think a lot of the reviews for this film are quite harsh. Is the original far better? Yes. But Austin Powers Goldmember still manages to be funnier than almost anything released in the last 10 years despite probably being the worst in the trilogy.
There are plenty of good jokes in here, like the 'Godzilla' one and Goldmember's accent is so silly and over the top I can't help but laugh about it. A lot of the jokes are rehashed and the feeling on originality the first one had has sadly gone. I thought Michael Caine did very well as Austin's 'farger', but Beyonce didn't do particularly well in her role. Most of the laughs come from Austin Powers himself, Dr Evil is still funny at times but he now feels over the top and too silly.
The story is a bit non-existent but it was in the sequel too, it's a comedy not a serious film so I don't feel it matters an awful lot.
Still, it's far from a bad film and I would recommend seeing it.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
The grooviest film ever made...
Yeah, it's silly, but what comedy isn't? It's part of the charm of this film. It's a true classic in comedy films and I have probably seen it over 50 times. Yet it's still just as funny as it was back then. I recently rewatched lots of 90s comedies and this one seems to have aged the best. Mike Myers showed tremendous talent to play both Austin and Dr Evil, every bit of praise he has received for this film is well deserved. Robert Wagner does superbly as 'number two.'
Liz Hurley does very well in her role too. In fact every actor in the movie did a great job and it is very clear that they put loads of effort into this film. Austin has lots of dimensions to his character, despite constantly chasing women he also greatly respects them. This seems to be something lots of modern films lack, all characters seem to have one trait they stick to.
The jokes are constant and there's a laugh every 20 seconds.
This is truly one of the funniest films ever released.
