Watching this documentary about The Red Shoes wasn't just a deep dive into a classic, but it also schooled me on the ins and outs of ballet and why this piece is such a big deal. Listening to the experts share their own stories, I got a real inside look at what goes on behind the scenes in the ballet world, how it's changed over the years, and the kind of hurdles, especially for women, that still exist today.

Their talk wasn't just a walk down memory lane; it was like connecting the dots between different times and takes on the ballet, shining a light on the struggles unique to women in this field.

I walked away from this with a whole new level of understanding and respect for ballet and its history. Now, I see The Red Shoes and ballet in a whole new light. Found this super helpful and thought-provoking.

perfect

Experiencing cinema can be exhilarating, especially when you enter the theater with little to no prior knowledge about the film, only to leave immensely impressed by the artistic mastery and emotional depth presented. On a day off from skiing, my wife and I decided to give this film a try. I have a penchant for eccentric, gothic narratives, though I was initially unsure if it would appeal to my wife's tastes. Despite some early doubts during the first few minutes, we were both captivated by the end. The movie was a visual spectacle, peppered with humorous moments and complemented by a compelling soundtrack, enhancing its unique charm. Emma Stone's performance was outstanding, showcasing excellent comic timing and a captivating intensity in her portrayal of a character with an insatiable curiosity for the sensual, the philosophical, and the exploratory. The set design, like the intricately detailed dining room on the boat, was immersive, transporting us to whimsical, Python-esque realms.

big fan

The show has impressively regained its momentum, showcasing excellent writing that seamlessly extends from the first season. The casting of Danvers and Evangeline is spot-on, with both actors demonstrating great on-screen chemistry. The storyline is intriguing and brilliantly realized, complete with clever twists.

It's amusing yet somewhat perplexing to note that many critiques here seem to echo the sentiments of a fictional character from the show, Hank Prior, known for his disdain towards women in leadership roles. It's important to approach these reviews with a critical eye, especially those that unfavorably view the show's success in passing the Bechdel test, a measure of the representation of women in fiction.

Gritty Realism
5 February 2024
Wow, the level of gritty realism in this movie is something else. It's like they've stripped back the usual glamor of gangster flicks and shown us the raw, real-life stakes of living in the criminal underworld. Pierce Brosnan plays this weary hitman with such a grounded and gritty demeanor, it's a world away from the typical invincible action hero. The way the film portrays the world of mob dealings and fixers feels brutally honest - no sensationalizing, no glorifying. It's a deep dive into the murky waters of moral ambiguity, where every choice has weight and consequences. This film goes beyond just entertainment; it's a study in character and a portrayal of the harsh realities of a life in crime. If you're tired of the usual Hollywood sheen on crime stories, 'Fast Charlie' is a refreshing and compelling alternative that doesn't shy away from the truth.

Magical

This short film brims with an array of sentiments and depth. Capturing such breadth in a brief duration is a challenge, yet the director has masterfully achieved this in this intricate yet straightforward narrative. The opening sequence is particularly noteworthy, drawing inspiration from The Red Shoes, setting the stage for the ensuing exhilarating and emotionally charged journey. Shannon Davidson shines in her portrayal of Moire Shearer, embodying the role with grace and authenticity. It's a challenging part, but her performance is so convincing, it feels like witnessing the story unfold firsthand. Kudos to Steve Exeter and the entire team for their remarkable creation. As an avid admirer of The Red Shoes, this was a delightful experience, but it's a must-watch even for those unfamiliar with the original, especially Òran na h-Eala.
