Beautiful
11 August 2009
I found this film to be absolutely beautifully shot and executed - I truly enjoyed it. I do wish the end was more clear, with more resolution and closure, but I was sort of spellbound the entire time by the sheer beauty and emotion of every moment. The acting was superb, the shots were luminescent and just gorgeous - you really feel like you're back in the 1930's, and in this woman's quiet, desperate, yet beautiful world. And the acting moments between the two main actors all landed just right, with a sense of realism. I wished it had continued, I wanted to know more of the developing relationship between them. Bravo!

Funny, edgy, and heartwarming
12 December 2004
I just watched this film-- I rented it on DVD, and now I'm going to

buy it. I was afraid that it would look cheap, because it was shot on

video, and I had remembered it looking kind of cheap in the

trailers. And in the trailer, I remember thinking that it looked quirky

and maybe a little funny at best. The trailers didn't do this movie

justice. I was totally entertained the whole way through, and was

blown away by the performances. It was so real feeling, like it was

people I knew. And oh my gosh the actors are so funny in it. Totally

subtle, but in a way that makes the audience laugh out loud. All the

while, it never gets sappy because nobody gets along in the story.

Like the writer/director says in the commentary, by the time you get

to the end, and there is a sentimental moment, it means more to

the audience because with all the edginess throughout the script,

we have EARNED it. Go see this movie. You will not be disappointed. It has become my new favorite "Thanksgiving"

movie. (Used to be "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles")

Word of Honor (2003 TV Movie)
Don Johnson blew me away!
4 June 2004
I don't usually add to this "comments" aspect of IMDb. But let me tell you, Don Johnson was AMAZING and blew me away, and if I didn't sit down and write about it, I was going to explode.

Truthfully, although Sharon Lawrence did an extremely competent job (sometimes really good) as his wife, the rest of the supporting cast was OK at best. Some really bad performances, in fact, that just make you cringe, but that you will often get on TV movies. The guys in the flashback sections did alright, especially Don Johnson's son. But other than that, you are just waiting for Don Johnson to come back on screen. And he does, so it's worth waiting for those moments:) And let me emphasize that I am NOT some teeny-bopper Don Johnson fan. I've never even liked his work that much before. But if you get a chance to see this (I got an Academy viewer; I'm not sure if they come out on DVD or not) you MUST check this out. I'm so impressed with what Mr.Johnson is capable of, and I'm really looking forward to his next movie.

If this had been a feature film, I would say that it was Oscar worthy.

a classic

Wonderful, a classic. So fresh and funny and interesting and endearing. I recommend it highly to anyone who loves movies. You can see how others have tried to imitate it, but this movie is just about perfect. You'll never be bored!!
