The Autumn Heart (1999)
The American dream?
I was really looking forward to seeing that movie from 1999 (a period, in which I liked Ally Sheedy' s appearance), as somebody said it was warmhearted or so. In fact I was completely bored throughout the whole film. Is it because I live in old Europe - the family-ideals proposed in that film were so creamy overdrawn and didn't match mine at all...? The characters of the siblings were so different, you wouldn't believe they are relatives. Like another commenter said, they were not developing at all. Sheedy had to act a hysteric, bitter, always yelling beast, who had never come over losing her father by divorce of her parents. She had to present us a flat black-and -white-psychology with no tones of grey in between.
The Haunting of Seacliff Inn (1994)
charming, powerful, lovely
having watched a couple of films starring Ally Sheedy recently, this one gave me a nice and relaxed evening entertainment, although it is an eerie movie by content. All characters were decent and sympathetic to me. The main characters are vital young adults in Jeans and boots. The film is also starring a beautiful wild landscape. One can almost smell the salty fresh air. Sheedys character is, although she is sensitive to the spiritual vibrations emerging, a self-confident and realistic person with good senses of humor, not whining and screaming. I don't know, why her characters have to die so often in her films. I love it, when she survives! This time she does - love is stronger than ghosts...
One Night Stand (1995)
Avoid this, if you can!
This film is so awful and lame! It doesn't make it more interesting or raises its erotic thrill that they saved any costs for illumination of the scenes. Beginning with the perfume promotion event: A hairless bodybuilder appears in a huge diaper, introduced as the god Eros. You burst out laughing. The main male character is also a hairless ape with no aura at all and with obviously paralysed mimic muscles, no evidence, why any women should be attracted by him. The couple come over as lively as Barbie and Ken, although Ally Sheedy seems to be on the climax of her beauty (not baby-faced, not anorectic) - if she only was given the opportunity to elaborate her charakter...I seldom throw away DVDs . This time I did.
Noise (2004)
It is not so bad
First I thought, it was a bit below average as a movie, though watchable. Not paying attention to the screen anymore I did some household work at the end of the film and was stricken by the beautiful song playing full length then. Reading all the comments I agree that Trish as Joyce was strange, but it fits into her part. Looking at her, one rather believes the model than the alkoholic, but that was the point! The character is supposed to appear hollow, her interaction with other people is awkward, kind of introverted and conceited at the same time - with her classical music etc. Why couldn't she invite the neighbour inside her studio, when she came to introduce and apologize. Why couldn't she caress her, when she was hurt? Only one thing really irritated me: if you cut a throat like that, you won't hit any relevant blood-vessels, but the trachea - this is rather used in saving suffocating peoples life than killing anybody. Hmmmppff.
