The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Strong, but could be better
I really enjoy this series. In particular, I like Elrond, the actor who plays him really captures the character, I also like the Dwarves and some of the Hobbits, although they weren't the Hobbits I remembered. My problems are that the series in entirely to serious. There was a lot of humor and romance mixed in with battles in the movie series. It isn't GOT, get over that, there is no sex or swearing in it, which I like. I am not a Tolkien fanatic and never read the books, so I am not influenced by that either. My biggest beef is Galadriel. She's so angry all the time. There is no joy in the character and she looks like she wants to kill everyone. Still, I find this a fun, enjoyable watch and I hope there is a season 2.
Wuthering Heights (2009)
The most romantic movie ever
I loved this movie. I wasn't sure I would, but I did. This story begins differently than the book. There is no stranger that comes to the door, and who learns about Cathy & Heathcliff's story, and the kidnapping of Cathy's child comes much later. However, what the movie might lack in continuity, it more than makes up for it with romance.
Tom Hardy is an excellent Heathcliff and Charlotte Riley have tremendous chemistry. He is sexy as hell and she is downright gorgeous. The romance between them feels real, as does Heathcliff's torment.
The story moves along at a brisk pace and the story never has a dull moment.
Heathcliff's hair is somewhat of an issue, but other than that, I find no fault with the movie. It might not appeal to die hard Wuthering Heights fans who may find this movie a little more light hearted than the usual dark fare, but I loved it.
I found myself drawn in from the opening credits, and riveted till the end.
Other than the Lawrence Oliver version, which also strayed a bit from the book, I thought this was one of the best versions ever and was a beautiful, moving film that will satisfy any true romantics fantasies.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Lived up to almost all my expectations
**Spoilers ahead**
I waited twenty years for this film to be made, while George Lucas passed on script after script and while Harrison Ford got older and older. I was thrilled to learn that the movie was being made and had a release date. I was also thrilled to learn that Karen Allen was to return.
I have to admit, Indy's age was the hardest thing for me to get over. Even though I had seen Harrison Ford so much beforehand, it was jarring for me to see him older on the big screen. It wasn't until the action began that I started getting comfortable.
I also had to get used to Indy in a different era. Instead of fighting Nazi's during the glamorous 40's, Indy was living in the nuclear era, dealing with the Russians and punks on motorcycles.
While the beginning of the movie is a bit long, once the action began, I was on the edge of my seat with excitement.
I really liked Shia and thought the idea that Indy had a son was great. Karen Allen looked fantastic and she and Harrison still had the old chemistry.
The only problems I had with the movie was the fact that first, there were 2 swear words. I know it sounds prudish, but since there weren't any in the first movie, I felt it was unnecessary to have it in this one.
The second involved the whole Alien theme through the movie, as well as it's outcome. It just didn't sit well with me.
What I loved about the other Indy's was that even though the plots were fantastical, it was also based in some historical fact. The Alien plot was just plain corny.
Don't let anyone fool you into thinking this is the worst movie ever. It's not. It's pure enjoyment. Lacking in all that fake CGI crap that your constantly being force fed. It's just plain old fashioned fun.
I loved the outcome of the movie and felt it was a perfect ending. Go see the movie. It's great and while it's not the best movie ever, if you open up your mind, you'll have a great time!
