Whitney Houston: The Concert for a New South Africa (1994)
Magnificent - I was genuinely moved by the end
I came across this concert due to my interest in SA and artists who visited the country soon after its liberation. Whitney was the 1st major artist to perform there with this concert. I have to admit the first 35mins her singing isn't as great as I would have hoped and she seemed a little shakey. However from that point onwards she takes off like an eagle and sings with so much passion, love and hope you really feel it. There is genuine hope (on her part) for the country and you can see the visit meant alot to her. At the end this concert is spiritually incredible- a powerful magical experience.
Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé (2019)
Great show
I watched this just for the show but was taken in by her overall message of empowerment. Beyonce is a great live performer who never really disappoints. Right from the beginning to the end I was left entertained and dancing on my sofa. Her work ethic needs to be applauded as does her need for perfection in everything she does. Her voice has deepened since those early years which has given her performance of the songs more gravitas. Please tell me who today can match her energy on stage. This is the journey into her inspirations for the show paying tribute to black institutions and culture. You wont be disappointed!
