12 Angry Men (1957)
10/10
One of my favourite Movies
1 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
12 Angry Men is one of my favourite movies of all time and certainly my favourite black and white movie. The magic of this movie is that it has not aged over time, it's as engaging and entertaining as the first time I saw the movie decades ago.

Obviously the actors in the movie are all legends, but director created excellent interaction and synergy between the actors which (in my opinion) the 1997 remake fell short of.

2 of my favourite scenes in the movie was when the jurors were arguing about the knife and how unique it was .... At which point Henry Fonda pulled out a replica knife, opened the switch blade and threw it into the table pointy end in.....it always gives my goose bumps! And secondly when Henda Fonda was baiting one of the other jurors who lost his temper so bad he shouted "I'll kill you"! .... Then Henry Fonda delivers the line ..... "you didn't really mean that did you?"

Fantastic movie!

Funnier than Spy Hard
12 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After the excellent Naked Gun TV Series and the 3 Naked Gun movies, the spoof movies that Leslie Nielsen appeared in were of a much lower quality. The is to say I was able to watch the Naked Gun movies multiple times and laugh and laugh...... but the movies that Leslie Nielsen were just not so good. I think the one exception was "Super Hero Movie" which was a spoof of the Spider Man movies..... however LN was just a supporting act in that movie.... However it was a really funny movie IMO.

The best I can say about Wrongfully Accused is that it is funnier than Spy Hard ..... but that is not say much because I did not laugh at all when i watched Spy Hard ....... At least I did laugh a few times during WA ..... but it's just not consistent most of the time not funny at all.

The Marvels (2023)
1/10
Very poor
11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly I have to be honest and confess that I did not like the Ms Marvel TV Series; it was boring and totally cringe worthy I really could not watch more than a couple of episodes.

I do not like to watch trailers or read reviews before see a movie ; mainly because once you have seen the trailer of a movie a substantial amount of time you don't need to see the full movie (this is not always the case, but you get my meaning) and secondly reading the reviews puts someone else prospective in my mind and I would prefer to be untainted but other opinions - so when I watched the movie I had no preconceived notions about the movie nor did I know who was in the movie apart from (I thought) an educated guess that the actors who play Captain Marvel and Nick Fury was a sure bet that they would be in the movie.

So it was a jaw dropping moment when I realised that the actress who plays Ms Marvel was in the movie (I have nothing against the actress - just the role she plays). At that point my expectations of "The Marvels" dropped through the floor.

Not surprisingly The Marvels did not exceed my expectations expectations - the movie was predictably monotonous and with the Ms Marvel character in the movie as well .... It will certainly be one of the worst movies I will see in 2023 and certainly the worst Marvel movie that I have ever seen.

Good but dated
16 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched Rosemary's baby again yesterday and yes it is a good film, but I found the film extremely dated ...... yes I know the movie was made in the late 60's ..... but the movie (for me) has not aged well. Additionally the pacing of the movie is extremely slow in too many parts of the movie - in fact most of the movie.

To give an example - 12 Angry men starring Henry Fonda, was made in 1957 about 10 years earlier and that movie (for me) is timeless; I can watch I again and it is every bit as meaningful and engaging as it was when I first watched it.

So yes Rosemary's baby is good but it's not a movie that entices me to watch again.

Nice idea but poorly executed
5 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Warning Spoilers**

I liked the idea that the reason McCall was doing what he was doing was not revealed until the very end of the movie. However, my love for the movie ended there.

The movie was really poorly executed in the sense that it was painfully slow - don't get me wrong, I do enjoy movies that have a long and well constructed build up, I just felt like there was a big hole in the movie, which was never filled.....I don't know how else to describe it.

It really pains me to write this review because I really loved the first movie and I have watched that movie many times. The first movie had a great villain, great screen play and a great musical score to under pin the atmosphere

...... for me..... the two sequels have both been lack lustre and never lived up to.

In fact I will go a far to say that the third movie was worse than the second Equalizer movie, which I also found wanting.

I really.feel let down after watching E3.

Babylon 5 (1993–1998)
10/10
The best... an all time classic
11 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As so many other reviewers have written... I loved Babylon 5 and the movie shows that followed. It's one of those shows (in my opinion) that you can watch every few years seasons 1 - 5 and still really enjoy it.

Babylon 5 is like a United Nations in space and brings loads of different people / alien's together and running in Parallel to these story lines..... the ancients and the shadow war.

The characters are compelling and I loved the interactions between G'Kar and Londo and Londo and Vir and of course the Star Trek cross over character the Psi Corp character played by walter Koenig..... it was great to see him in the show.

I was also very touched by J. Michael Straczynski who helped Michael O'Hare during his mental illness ..... the support he gave was so kind .

So within the Babylon 5 universe and behind the scenes Babylon 5 was a winner and a classic series

If you have already seen the series ... take time in the future to watch it again when you can and if you have not seen the show then I highly recommend that you watch it.

Be realistic
7 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok Meg 2 is never going to win any awards .... But we should view the movie from a realistic perspective...... it's ridiculously but at the same time it's fun.

Reading many of the other reviews of this movie, I feel that people are taking this movie far too seriously..... but the movie was never meant to be taking seriously.

So yeah the movie is ridiculous and silly but this movie is a great movie to see in the Cinema because of the constant action and jumps and scream factor.

I personally enjoyed Meg 2 from a perspective that I left my brain outside the cinema and went to enjoy a stupid but highly enjoyable movie with lots of action.

So yeah you can rip this movie apart and call it trash ..... but the point is it is not trying to something it is not and knows that the premise of the movie is ridiculous.....

Embarrassing
14 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know you can say that they did well considering the budget. However the film makers should have thought hard before making this movie, as it is no less than an insult to the first movie - Starship Troopers which was a great movie and highly entertaining. StarShip Troopers 2 on the other hand is the complete opposite.

I really wonder what the reason is for making such a move Could be and I can only think that they wanted to make a few bucks off the first movie... SST 1.......suckering the movie goer to watch the movie who may think it might be as good as SST 1 .......only to find that it is a Such pile of trash.

Star Trek: Picard: The Last Generation (2023)
Season 3, Episode 10
1/10
Lame Duck ending to a lame series
7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am a life long Star Trek Fan. I have watched all series and films many times...... except the Next Generation Films and Picard Series.

The TNG series To explain TNG series was quite good and generally had an episode every once in a while which redeemed the episodes which had weak storylines, unfortunately the episodes which had weak storylines greatly out numbered the episodes which had good (compelling and/or exciting stories but I could live with that.

The TNG Movies TNG 4 films on the other hand had very little redeeming feature's and were tiresome and run of the mill missed opportunities except (perhaps) First Contact..... 1 out of 4 is not redeeming statistic.

Picard Series The Picard series similar to the TNG movies had many more misses than hits ..... with most of the episodes promising something but in the end delivering disappointment. One of the exceptions however, was episode 9 of season 3 VOX. I loved this episode it was exciting, compelling and left me wanting more!! ..... and then came episode 10.... Which went back to the normal lack lustre writing style and left me feeling empty and disappointed.

The writers really need to rethink and re-evaluate what they are creating to make a more consistent and compelling series of episodes, before rushing into the next series which the end of Episode 10 teases ........ because I feel that 2 of the best features of TNG ..... Q and the Borg have been ruined by the Picard series.

It pains me to write the above but it is my honest opinion.

Awful
29 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another awful movie from the over rated and self important Jennifer Lopez

I think the the only movie I liked with Jennifer Lopez in it was Anaconda and I think that was mainly because she was not the main character just a supporting actress.

My wife wanted to watch this and luckily it was was on Netflix so I (kinda) didn't have to paid to watch it. I certainly wouldn't pay to to to the cinema to watch a Jennifer Lopez movie.

Anyway it was painful to watch and I was extremely happy when the end credits rolled up the screen.

I was surprised that Bob Hoskins agreed to be in the movie ....... I guess the money was right.

Recommend to avoid watching this movie.

Why?
2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Looking back at the Star Trek movies, the original series movies far outshines the Next Generation "movies". I put the word movies in quotes because most of the NG movies feel more like episodes than movies and than coupled with the weak storylines makes the NG movies a disappointment in the main. The one exception is Star Trek first contact which without doubt is the strongest NG movie.

Which brings me to Star Trek Nemesis which as previously described is just another episodic movie with weak storyline boarding on tiresome. It's hard for me to write this as I am a big Star Trek fan..

The Borg was a light in the dark throughout the NG series ... which proves that the writers can create compelling stories and interesting and dark villains... unfortunately with Nemesis the writers decided to again write a dire and lame story which is just totally forgettable.

Willow (2022–2023)

Disappointed
30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What day about Willow? The story is very predictable and is just a rehash of an over used story formula. The characters are really irritating and I don't feel any empathy for them .... Especially Elora Danan who is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

Infact the characters are so irritating I find myself rooting for the Crone and also the trolls (who were actually quite funny)

The story suffers from formula fatigue - I just wish the film studios would ditch the story formulas they use over and over again.

It's a shame because Willow the series could have been great .... Rather than a disappointment with exasperating characters.

Story an after thought
18 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As other reviewers have said the visuals on this movie are ground breaking and beautiful. So much effort and talent has been painstakingly poured into this movie over the last 12 years.

The story however is simply a very much watered down version of Avatar 2009 (pun most definitely intended), and not in a good way.

The start of the movie is dragged around with a rushed narrative from Sam Worthington to quickly summarise the events since the end of the last movie. Even at the beginning of the movie it felt rushed...and that feeling does not change through out the movie.....I can only think that James Cameron had 5 hours of movie time and needed to squeeze it into 3 hours.

In the first movie the human visitors to Pandora were mining for the metal Unobtainium ..... in AWoW this is no longer a concern.....and the General makes mention of Earth dieing and the need make Pandora their new home..... however this not referred to throughout the rest of the movie.

Stephen Lang.is brought back from the dead in the form of an Avatar .... But this is muddled at best and to my mind it would have been better to bring in a new villain.

The watered down story and characters makes you feel disconnected from the movie and characters and there is just no emotion in the movie ...... until the scene where the human harpoon the whale.... This is truly sad and is the first time I felt engaged by the movie. Shortly after the whale is killed they harvest its brain fluid and make mention it stops human aging.

In the first movie Jake Sully was a central character and the story was built around his struggle between for filling his mission to infiltrate the natives of Pandora and falling love with the forest and the native people and then fighting to save them

In AWoW Jake Sully is simply a refugee running away from the humans

It's painful to go on because I really loved the first movie.... But this second movie is such a mess from a story perspective..... the story is simply an after thought .... And is simply not good enough to entertain and engage.

I give this 5/10 solely based on the beautiful visuals ...... if I rated the movie based on the story or rather lack of it I could give no more than 2.

Worst Superman Movie Ever
17 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is without doubt the worst Superman movie ever made (to date). The pacing of the movie is slow and lumbering except perhaps the action sequence at the beginning of the movie.

The story is monotonous and mundane . The characters are frustrating (especially in the case of Louise Lane) and very bland in the case of Lex Luther. Kevin Spacey, is a great actor but I'm really surprised that he agreed to be in this movie. The interaction between Superman and Lane is painful at best.

I remember at the time of cinema release, we had the choice of going to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 or Superman Returns...... we choose POTC 2 which was great..... and later I watched Superman Returns when it was released on DVD. I remember think how glad I was that I DIDN'T go to the Cinema to see this poor excuse for a movie. The movie was so dull that I kept putting the movie on pause to go do other things and finally managed the painful experience of watching the whole movie over the course of a few days ..... the most satisfying part was the ending credits.

Andor (2022– )
9/10
Surprisingly good
11 December 2022
I have to admit I was very sceptical about Andor when it was first released and indeed the jury was out for the first couple of episodes. But as the episodes progressed I became more and more engrossed in the series and I have to say that I am really enjoying it.

I just hope firstly that season 2 does actually manifest and secondly that season 2 builds upon the strong foundations of season 1

So I am really looking forward to season 2 and again slight feeling of scepticism is upon me .... The fact is that Andor has such a rich history of Star Wars back story to draw on that it would seem almost inconceivable that season 2 and beyond is anything but exceptional.

However again we have all seen how series quality can degrade over time .... So I really hope that Andor is quality OVER quantity.

Boring and Mediocre
5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having read all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels, I was expecting at least some elements of observation and deduction skills to be in this movie. But after watching 40 minutes of this movie, I find that there is no observational skills related to Holmes.

Even when Henry Cavill appeared in the movie as Sherlock Holmes.... There is no improvement.... I'm really surprised that Cavill agreed to play the part.

This movie has little or no redeeming features and is totally mundane.

I am Really disappointed, as I was looking forward to watching the movie.

On top of all that that Millie Bobby Brown has a terrible English accent

I am being generous giving this movie 3/10.

Ignore the bad reviews
10 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the bad reviews for this film

TLAT is better than Thor 2 Dark World but not as good as Thor 1 & 3

The film is funny which is in keeping with the previous Thor film Ragnarok

Yes there is not much context around Christian Bale's character and the daughter..... but this did not detract from the movie..... but if a back story had been worked into the film there would probably have been multiple reviews complaining that the movie was too long

It's certainly not a bad movie but then again I would say there are better Marvel movies.

The worst thing I can say about the movie is that it does not have any links into any of the the previous Thor movie .... But then....that is not a bad thing.

Not as bad as everyone would have you believe
15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I originally watched this movie back in 2016 in a movie theatre and at the time I thought it sucked.

As of 2022 I have just watched the movie again and ok .... It's not on the same level as the first movie .....(not saying the first movie was anything special) BUT .... It's really not that bad and I kinda enjoyed it the second time around.

The second watch 6 years later......It was fun to watch and it kept me entertained to the end of the movie

The only really negative thing that I will say is that similar to the first movie the level of over acting in both films is truly awful..... Brent Spiner is at the worst!!

Ignore the poor ratings
11 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie.

There are so many negative reviews about this movie and of course people are entitled to their opinion.

Is it over the top - yes .... Is it silly - yes .... Is it fun - YES!!

I fail to see that Moonfall is any more silly / far-fetched than movies like Armageddon.

Anyway the movie made me laugh and kept me entertained through out and the megastructure / Dyson sphere was an interesting element.

Hate this movie all you want .... That's your right .... But hate it because YOU hate it and not because people around you are saying it's crap.

Halo is good ... this episode is terrible
27 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am quite enjoying Halo .... There are some very good moments and some very bad moments.

Episode 7 is one of the very bad moments.... I mean dedicating a whole episode to Kwan is a complete waste of an episode.

Roll on episode 8!!

It grew on me
16 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When I first started watching RE, I shared the opinion of many of the reviews in IMDB, that it was not RE ..... etc ... etc...

yeah to start with I was disappointed and the first couple of episodes, were to be frank boring. But I kept watching because of 2 reasons - firstly, the RE movies by paul Anderson were great up until the 4th movie and then the 5th and especially the 6 were poor, so a fresh approach was needed and secondly RE series had held true to the blood and gore .... Anything less than a 18 rating would not have worked.

So yeah.... Many of the characters are some what irritating and I struggled with the teenybopper element... but from episode 4 or 5 the series starts to show promise and started to grow on me

So yes this is not traditional RE .... But that kinda needed to change to refresh the franchise

I think the series is a good effort and I shall keep watching... at least as long as the storyline is engaging and the series stays true the gore and blood that RE most definitely needs....

Terrible
9 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I just about managed to sit through episode 1 of Ms. Marvel and I will not be watching any more of the episodes/ series. It's just another cringy teen show which is an insult to your intelligence.

Nothing here of any interest or creativity.

Marvel and Disney really need to rethink their scripts and make them more intelligent and hold there writers to a higher standard - but silly me to say this because it will never happen!!

Warning: Spoilers
I know that humans are not supposed to feel pain anymore, at least in the future conjured by this movie...... but it was a painful experience to watch this movie. The movies special effects kind of reminded me of old Terry Gilliam movies .... These movie also had a weird vibe. But this movie definitely trumped TGs work ..... I won't be watching again.

Surprisingly good but has its issues
2 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly I have to say that STSNW is pretty good and has a STOS feel about it. I am up to episode 3 and the stories are pretty good and more along at pace. Much Better in my opinion than STNG, although admittedly I have only watched 3 episodes

However, as other people have mentioned this is supposed to be set 10 years before James Kirk but the technology almost seems to rival STNG tech. Don't get me wrong the makers have made (some) effort to make the environment similar to STOS, but they missed a great opportunity to make the tech more believable for that time period the series is set in.

But what really gets me frustrated is the Star Fleet badges they are all wearing whereas in STOS they were just material insignias and secondly the transporter is touch controlled whereas on STOS they used buttons which slide up the control interface - these are just some details there are plenty more - as I said earlier the makers had a great opportunity to make the star ship environment much more in sync and believable for that time period but have not bothered to invest in a more realistic approach...... shame really.

Mistaken low ratings
27 June 2022
Ok I this movie is not perfect but it deserves waaaaay better ratings than reflected in IMDB. The movie is very watchable and kept me interested until the end..... which I shall come back to shortly. The special effects are good and the movie's pace is good.

The movie portrays the girl as having not only pyrokinesis but also inherited the powers of her mother and father... moving objects and also mind control.

The only point that did not make sense to me was the ending where she goes with the man who killed her mother and captured her father..... the movie i think inferred that she mind controlled him to look after her.

Anyway I enjoyed the movie ....

But I hesitate to say that I look forward to the sequel.... As this is likely to be a low budget embarrassment; which should be avoided at all costs.
