Whirlpool (1950)
Ham Sandwich
All I can ask is. Has there ever been a bigger ham bone than Jose Ferrer? If you want a real cornball evening rent this one. I will wager you can guess the ending ten minutes into the show. If you want a good noir drama let me recommend Nightmare Alley. Not only do you get evil shrinks, you get carnival geeks and fortune tellers as well. All and all a more satisfying way to send some noir tine. I must say that I did enjoy the art direction. If you are a gene Tierny fan, Leave her to heaven is my advice. On the other had, this one will put you in the mood for a martini. Now, if Jose had bitten the head off a live chicken like John Garfield did in Nightmare Alley I might have kinder things to say about this picture!

Your face will hurt from smiling
Kang-Ho Song is a genius.
He reminds me of Buster Keaton. What is amazing is to see the other films he is in. Once you have seen this, make sure you check out YMCA Baseball, and then for something completely different, JSA (Joint Security Area). It is clear that some of the best films lately are being made in Korea, and he seems to be a part of them. His gift for physical comedy is remarkable, and this movie keeps going in directions I did not expect.
Anyone who has worked in an office will understand this film. It is not only for WWF fans, in fact I HATE Wrestling...but this is something altogether different.
Do yourself a big favor, see Foul King, JSA, and YMCA Baseball, and then lets start the North American Kang-Ho Song fan Club.

Creepy Creepy
All I can say is I saw this at a midnight showing, late into the Seattle Film Fest. The general rule with midnights is give it 15 minutes and then they start leaving in dribs and drabs until only a small contingent is left - most of them because they are sound asleep. All I can say is NOBODY LEFT!
The kind of subtle, creepy that I love. You don't need guts and gore, a red hello kitty bag, or a hair in a glass of water is all it takes.
Mushrooms (1995)
Delicious
This is one of those gems I caught at the film festival and thought surely would get a release. What happened! It is a charmer, a black comedy that treads the thin line perfectly. Hey you studio guys, get on the ball and release this film, forget the rest of that dreck that you keep churning out!
