Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (1984)
Classic
A multi-layered exploration of Ewok life, using the search for parents a metaphor for the loss of comfort in a cold, unblinking universe.
Once we have explored the class infra-structure and mundanity of being a post-Jedi Ewok (with little or no cause to fight for after the Rebellion's ultimate victory) the subtext remains clear. As soon as the kids, a little older, a little wiser, realise they have found their parents they realise a hard-earnt truth.
People think you're complete nerds if you hang out with your Teddy Bears after a certain age.
Lucas tells it like it is, and that's why kids and adults love him so.
Lesbian Student Nurses (2000)
Ingenious
What an amazing movie! An eye-popping exploration of both the Student Nursing world, and the joy of lesbianism.
Once curious omission is the crucial examination scene, in which the nurse who has spent too much time being lesbian, and not enough time studying, learns the important lesson that you have to put a bit of elbow grease in to get the right result.
A little heavy on the plot side, but certainly a docu-drama solution to the BBC's need of a replacement for 'Songs Of Praise.'
