Star Trek Continues (2013)
Oddly compelling
It is so right and so wrong all at the same time.
With incredibly good use of very original looking, sounding, and feeling sets and costumes, you sometimes feel it is TOS. But then, one of the actors says something and you know it is not.
Taking up where TOS left off, Star Trek Continues is trying to finish the five year mission. They even got James Doohan's son to be Scotty.
The overacting is there, the predictable plot is there, the moral certainty is there, the strange lighting is there, the closeups and heavy makeup is there, the breaking of the prime directive is there, the bare chest of Kirk is there. What more do you want? Good acting?? Not going to find it here.
I loved it!
Chase (2010)
Dull, dull, dull
I watched this because I had seen "Blue Bloods" the night before and this was the only choice that looked interesting. Big mistake. It was not interesting. The acting was wooden and the characters unbelievable. There did not even seem to be the expected amount of real police "work" going on. They just ran and drove and flew all over chasing the guy. Guess this is why it is called Chase.
It only took a very few minutes to want to turn this off. Good thing I had laundry to do instead.
The villain was the only really compelling character. The actress playing his daughter, Sissy, was also quite good.
My recommendation - give this one a pass. Don't waste the space on your TIVO or PVR
