She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Righting the wrong of the review bombing
I very seldom write reviews on here, but decided that I needed to do so this time. The show does not deserve the overall rating on here.
I love the way that it is poking fun at itself and the MCU in an irreverent way! I love the breaking of the 4th wall. It has had some laugh out loud moments for this 61 YO woman!
I loved Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black and she excels in this as well. I love the cameos and the nudge wink acknowledgement of this and can't wait to see who else pops in.
Okay, the CGI is a bit shonky at times but I can forgive this. All I can say is that the negative reviews do NOT do this show any justice at all.
Does it not suit the XY fan base?
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Sensawunda and back to being 16 again!
I am late to the party with this show. Only got Disney+ on the 7th and have binged both seasons since then. Last 4 eps tonight.
I am a 60 yo woman who was 16 when A New Hope came out and I have been transported back to that age. I was a geek girl before being a geek was fashionable and took my 10 yo brother along as cover for seeing that film!
This episode is the BEST Star Wars content since the original trilogy.
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I squealed when I saw the X-Wing and then when the green light sabre was drawn, but couldn't really believe what they were about to reveal. Cue tears as the cloaked figure was cutting down the Dark Troopers, tears when the hooded one took off his hood: Luke!!! tears when Mando took off his helmet so The Child could see his face and then touch it, tears when R2 came in and The Child met him!
I am in awe of the job which Favreau and Filoni have done with this show. Was sooo disappointed with the last trilogy but this series has made up for that disappointment as THIS is what Star Wars was all about.
I had managed to keep myself spoiler free for the series and had a squee in the episode when I saw Slave 1 and Boba Fett in his armour!! But that was nothing compared to the reveal in this episode.
Doctor Who: Demons of the Punjab (2018)
One of the very best Doctor Who episodes I have ever seen.
This episode blew me away. Excellent acting. Tonally consistent. Excellent writing and storyline.
Doctor Who: The Woman Who Fell to Earth (2018)
"Haters gotta hate, hate, hate, hate"
I waited till now to have a look at IMDB to see what the overall reaction was and from what I can see there is definitely a "Marmite" vibe to the division of reviews. My son, who has watched every single episode of Doctor Who since he found it on Watch as a child (he is now 23) absolutely loved it! He had moaned and griped about the Moffat show running years and to be fair, I did agree him... Much as I love Capaldi as an actor, he was given some rubbish scripts and there was far too much story arc.
Anyhoo, back to review: like my son, I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of the series. I though Jodie was very very good with some echoes of Doctors past in her portrayal in this first episode. Much as I was very sceptical about casting Bradley Walsh as a companion, I am now converted. I'd forgotten how decent he was in a Law and Order UK. I am looking forward to se how the other companions develop.
As to the critics who are moaning about the number of companions, several other Doctors have had multiple companions at one time or another: Baker and Davidson in particular.
I thought the production values were okay and there were some scary bits. Like some other reviewers, I though it felt like a Torchwood episode and I don't mean that in a bad way. I have also seen the stats that more young girls watched this opening episode than boys, in comparison to Capaldi's opening ep, and I am quite sure they won't have been disappointed.
Tutti Frutti (1987)
DVD finally out after 22 years
Well, the wait is finally over, Amazon have sold out and the DVD is now in my hands via the High St store. It is just as brilliant as a I remembered it, so no rose tinted glasses. Fantastic performances, Glesga gallus humour and real locations (including one round the corner from where I grew up and across the road from the swimming baths I learned to swim in.)
I remember being gobsmacked when I heard Emma Thompson's real accent after the series as she did a very accurate West End Glasgow accent which I thought was authentic at the time the series was broadcast.
SO glad they sorted out all the copyright issues and the DVD can take it's place in the ranks of great ones.
I'm not going to spoil the story. For anybody new to it just go with it, for the ones who have seen it before enjoy!
