Whiteout (2009)
Enjoyable but.. Spoiler alert
Diamonds?
I had some time to waste while waiting for a meeting to start. Since my wife wasn't with me I could slip into a movie that I knew might have some extreme scenes. So I was prepared and mildly enjoyed Kate, the plot twists, and the cheesy tension jumping scenes like the avalanche on the buried airplane.
BUT for the life of me (and now one posting has asked this question that I could see) Why were Russian fly boys flying a cargo of uncut Diamonds to the Antarctic in 1957? This makes no sense at all.. Or did I fall asleep and miss that the Americans had already traded the radioactive material they thought was there for the diamonds and now the diamonds were all that was left. I'm very confused by all this.
Castle (2009)
Good Dynamic between the characters
While the plots may be a bit contrived, the main effort is the dialog and tension between the two main characters, i.e. the Writer and the Detective. This is a reminder of Gable and Russel, or any number of 1930's great couples in the movies when the lack of color images was lacking but the colorful dialog was what made the movies worth watching. It's called Chemistry and these characters are definitely full of it.
Now this week with Beckett turning the tables on Castle we are beginning a turn in the energy dynamic. Can't wait to see where the writers go with this one
Femme Fatale (2002)
Great visuals, wonderfully tricky plot
Banderas played a great underplayed part, while Romijn-Stamos was tauntingly beautiful and messed with your head. Her strip act was first class, while she managed to pull off making you think she was a real baddie. But the lesson was about the wheel of Karma and how you too when you see it unfolding, if you choose to do so, can create your own ending, much to the betterment of the outcome. I am known for second guessing the outcome of most plots, let alone the dialog as it about to happen. I was pleasantly surprised to have this plot twist on my no less than twice in directions that I never would have guessed. A real sleeper of a movie. I highly recommend it as excellent entertainment if you like Hitchcock type plots.
