Come for the jokes, stay for the stories
17 May 2023
Pete Davidson in a show about Pete Davidson, I didn't know what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I think the premise of the show doesn't pull a lot of people in because Pete is known for his off beat stoner humor and drug use, but the show has so much more to offer.

For starters the cast is great; Joe Pesci, the elderly dying wise guy grandpa, Edie Falco, the though as nuts sweet ma, Bobby Canavale, the coked up uncle, that reminds me of my friends in the 90's and last but not least Preston Brodrick as the young Pete Davidson. I could go on and on about the cast and the cameos, which are abundant and hilarious, especially the one by Ray Romano.

At the heart of all the episodes is the angst of Pete Davidson.

Am I being the best person, I can be?

Which we all wonder from time to time.

Although the episodes only have a runtime of about 25 minutes every story is so wel rounded, it transcends most sitcoms.

I really hope Bupkis gets a second season cause we still haven't seen the whole Pete Davidson story and all of his talent.

So if you're hesitant, please give it a go, I promise you, you definitely will be as pleasantly surprised as I was!

An anthology series without cohesian
23 March 2023
A bunch of animated shorts without any real storylines. I'm a real fan of animated movies and animated shorts, but I haven't found any redeeming quality in any of these.. crappy animation overall, no compelling stories, no entertainment level whatsoever. Too pretentious for my taste, a diversity vehicle I guess, so that should be a good thing, but it just isn't. Of course the medium of 5 minute stories is very limited, but the makers should be able to engage , bewonder or move you and none of them did.

The tagline "Tell a story only you can tell" is pure nonsense as well, I was expecting personal stories and they weren't...

Skip it!

Marlon Wayans: God Loves Me (2023 TV Special)

It didn't even happen to you dude!!
11 March 2023
OMG... An entire show about the Will Smith vs. Chris Rock slap just isn't funny!

What a waste of talent, his last special was so good, energetic, funny and brutally honest, I was just expecting so much more. It feels like one joke that gets spun out so thin, it's bound to fall apart. For me that happened about 10 minutes in. Maybe the energy of his preparation for the Richard Pryor biopic was channeled in his previous special and I just expected too much. We'll have to wait for his next special to get the answer...

Although Will Smith gave us some great entertainment, he's doesn't deserve an hour long redemption special, because he couldn't take a joke about his bald wife being a great cast for the next GI Jane movie!

Marlon is still a great guy with tons of energy. That's why I still gave it a D minus/4 stars review, but as a fan of stand up comedy my advice is to skip this set!!

Pointless dribble, you've got to skip!

Warning: Spoilers
Usually I don't write spoilers but I don't want anyone wasting time on this utter piece of garbage. A woman is in an abusive relationship and leaves her children to fend for them selves.

17 years later they plot to take revenge. She's now well off, they're at risk youth.

A parent that just leaves their child, is the lowest form of a human being imaginable, so I think nobody has any sympathy for the main character. In the intro she's complaining about money and her social position in life. She is so unlikable and her character has no depth at all. The strays, the children she left behind also have no depth at all, they are angry and vicious. They should've befriended their half siblings and maybe even their stepdad and drive the mother crazy with psychological games and tension. Instead they're jealous evil pricks that only seem to care about possessions and hurting people.

Oh and the cherry on top of this disaster of a movie is the ending; the dad is killed by the stray brother and again the mother leaves all her children behind!!!

Snap: Willie Lynch (2022)
Season 1, Episode 1
1/10
Divide and conquer??
29 December 2022
The first episode is based on the Willie Lynch speech, even though the text itself has been debunked as a hoax, the anthology of short stories show how the Willie Lynch theory to devide and conquer is perpetuated in daily life.

The Willie Lynch speech based on theories already used by Philip II of Macedon in 400 BC entails in short: Pit the people you want to oppress against eachother females against males, different shades of skin colour, old against the young, any difference will do thus fostering distrust, animosity and even enmity so you can rule. In the Willie Lynch speech the oppressed are slaves.

The production and acting is good, but the short sighted narrow-minded story telling is as divisive as the text they want to expose (even though the text is fake) and have you thinking "Oh snap".

Didn't snap for me though...

Don't believe the haters
5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Thor Love and Thunder is certainly worth a watch. Christian Bale shines as Gorr and athough it's sometimes mushy and takes doesn't take itself too seriously, it is by no means a bad movie!

Sometimes hilarious, nice action scenes and the story is heartfelt, although giving Jane cancer was a bit much and not well written. I do understand some of the hate, because sometimes it wants to be a drama, sometimes it's like a kid's movie and sometimes it's an action flick, so it seems like Taika couldn't really make up his mind.

Fanboys complaining about the true mythology and rules in fantasy movies always crack me up.

It supposed to be fun and unbelievable!

And that's what Thor Love and Thunder definitely is.

Haters gonna hate
9 September 2022
Don't know what all the hate is about...

Trolling seems to be the latest fab, wouldn't surprise me if every streaming service has their own troll army to bash the competition!

Very good original show, was surprised it wasn't based on a comic, like everything seems to be nowadays.

Genetically altered tweens all experience different side effects from the treatment they got for different illnesses, others would call 'm superpowers.

Potayto potaato

Haven't watched the entire season yet but will binge the rest today, because I love the characters and the story.

Give it a chance it won't disappoint!

Netflix did it again!
6 August 2022
With it, I mean produce a show that will have millions or even billions of people getting to know the works of Neil Gaiman. All the fanboys and girls bashing the series won't deter the average viewer and they will be amazed by the visuals, the highly original storytelling and maybe just maybe will read a Gaiman novel or comic book. My interest is peaked by the best fantasy tv show ever without chewed out superheroes or medieval revival characters😉

So well worth a watch, I couldn't go to sleep after I started watching. So I finished it in one sitting and will probably watch it again and again and again and again. Don't know if there are any comics left to bring to the screen but I would love seeing more. Hope Anansi boys will be as well done and not a disappointment like American Gods.

Haters gonna hate
16 July 2022
Haters gonna hate and they just show their bias and their lack of knowledge and empathy.

This "special" is a gem for fans, but not a special in the literal sense of the word. Dave reflects on his time at Duke Ellington and debunks the allegation of being a gender bigot. People are way to narrow-minded and overly sensitive and refuse to listen to context or take the context into consideration. Does Dave give you the biggest belly laughs ever? Well, sometimes he does, but he always makes you think and that's his superpower.

The ending is beautiful and explains the reason for showing this speech to the world.

I'm so glad he's coming to Amsterdam and I'll be able to see him live for the very first time.

Chris Rock will be there too.

Whoop whoop for woo young woo!!
15 July 2022
What a fantastic show, a heart-warming tale of a girl that sees the world in a unique way. She is brilliant, quirky and sweet. The legal issues in the first two episodes are puzzles of love presented in intricate stories with memorable characters that remind me of the work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie). I'm not a fan of drama let alone Korean drama but this show I loved. Can't wait for the next episodes on Netflix.

So in a nutshell; One to watch, you won't be disappointed!

The Man, The Myth, The misery
25 June 2022
Another great Baz Luhrman film, with wonderful performances by all the actors.

My God I really hated Tom Hanks in this role so an Oscar worthy performance once again!! Is it all I hoped for? No, there should've been more music and the long runtime wasn't really adding to the story. Some parts were too long, some were glanced over too fast.

Why then 10 stars?

Because it is definitely a great hommage to the King, his music and their roots, his legacy and his life.

French comedy wrapped in action
7 May 2022
This comedy had me in stitches. I only watched it because of Lupin star Omar Sy.

Sure it's over the top and filled with stereotypes and unbelievable action sequences, but the comedy will have you lol-ing. The stupidity and ridiculousness reminds me of old French comedies starring Louis de Funes. Two hours well spend, just give it a chance and you won't be disappointed!

An ode to Eddie Murphy
7 April 2020
Yes the kid is over the top and has an extremely foul mouth, but if you're not that easily offended, this movie has a lot of very funny moments. It's like an ode to 48 hrs., back in the day everybody was shocked by Eddie's profanity as well. Haters gonna hate especially those with giant sticks up there bums... Especially those looking like an old as Taylor Swift on meth ;) My advice: Get over yourself and enjoy the ride!

Jon Favreau does it again
29 November 2019
Jon Favreau is a freaking master of the Star Wars Universe... The love for the source material, the compelling thought out story, the attention to detail and the immaculate execution just ooze out of every episode and make this my favourite TV-show ever and easily slides in my top 3 of my 40 years of Star Wars experiences. Come on, a charismatic hero even though we never see his face, each episode that feels like a mini movie and has you longing for more and on top of all that: a freaking hilarious and super adorable baby Yoda! What's not to love? Must see TV for everyone and for Star Wars fans who were disappointed by any of the sequels and spin offs this is you chance for a New Hope!

May the force be with you

What a waste of time....
24 February 2019
Crappy dialogues, bad acting, dumb characters, a totally unlikable heroin, forced plot twists and a disappointing ending... Where to start with this show. The solutions are to easy and the heroin is so dumb it really makes you wonder how the hell she made it to the end of the show. Just don't start watching this mess, click away and spent some hours on a good show. Like the Fall, the bridge, the team, dogs of Berlin the list is endless but this is certainly not one of them. I can't believe people rated this show 7 or higher, but then again I still can't believe there's an orange man in the White House....

Bad acting, unrealistic writing, fake emotions and a wannabee dr. House protagonist. Where The Team succeeded, this show fails horribly. Watched 6 episodes and just couldn't take anymore...

History brought to life
12 November 2012
A great comprehensive series about our history. Of course it can't tell all, but it's based on the latest findings and discoveries. It reminds me of "Il était une fois..." a series I loved as a child. It also has a lot of facts that have a sort of "QI"-ness about them. Little things you didn't know and big revelations about things we thought we knew. All brought to us by fascinating stories framed with visually beautiful reenactments and everyday imagery If you love history you'll love this show and if you watch this show you will fall in love with history...

So what's not to love? Well, Andrew Marr is no Richard Attenbough and he will put off people rather than attract them. And the previously mentioned reenactments are not all up to par with the Hollywood imagery we're all spoiled with...

Still I enjoyed every episode thus far and encourage every one to watch it!!

Unspoken: unfinished good idea
21 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I know the unspoken first part of the show was connected to Mac's aphasia, still the writers could've done a better job, things just didn't add up from the get go: Lindsay saw the shooter get out his gun and she does nothing to prevent it and no, being there with her daughter is no excuse. After she hits the ground, she stays on the ground in a crowd: no one could really be that stupid, right!? After that the time-frame for the accidental shooting of the little girl just doesn't add up: Don is in hot pursuit of the victim, but the kids have at least more than a minute to play with the gun... The idea of an unspoken episode could've worked although it felt really forced and didn't last the entire episode, which would've made it a lot more interesting. I especially hated Danny's texting at the hospital. Boy, did that feel like a major cop out! To top it all off the shooters motive and actions were the most unfinished bad ideas of the episode: Writing on the window and leaving a print, the gun belonging to the victim, that wasn't the victim and some half-assed accusation that in the end didn't cost him his job as the reason for the attempted assassination of a high school principal!!

So writers next time run the episode by me or anyone else with half a brain...

Still love the series, although I would've dropped NY and kept Miami of the CSI-franchise!

The girlie show brings you Spider-man..
19 July 2012
Girls will love this movie and guys will enjoy it more than an average rom-com but this sh**ty unnecessary piece of sh*t will have all true spider-man fans gagging and rushing for the exit. Too bad it's already a commercial success so there will definitely be a sequel which pobably will be even sh*ttier. Like everyone I'm appalled by the lack of respect for Sam Raimi and for the original comics. I'll admit Spider-man 3 was a mess, but this was the fault of the studio- execs and not of master Raimi...

It seems its success is biggest in India home of Bollywood movies. So maybe next time Spidey will be singing and dancing..

Beautiful film. Tres bonne!
17 February 2012
A very enjoyable kids' movie which pays homage to other 'monster'-classics like Frankenstein, The Phantom of the Opera and King Kong. A feast for the eyes and a classic story with a twist in which losers become heroes, heroes become villains and a monster turns out quite different to what we expect. Well not really, because all monsters are misunderstood gentle souls and greedy ambitious people always turn out to be the real monsters. The story is accompanied by beautiful songs. I regret to have seen the English version because I just know the original French chansons must be even better. My 4 year old daughter, 11 year old son and I loved it and my wife quite enjoyed as well. Certainly not a waste of money like some of the other reviewers said.

The almost perfect adaptation of Tintin
19 November 2011
Puritans will see flaws and see no need to combine the stories of 3 comics. But a book by book adaptation of the original comics would just be boring to people unfamiliar with Tintin. So fanboys aside, this is the must-see picture of the year. Action packed, funny and like a roller-coaster ride that ends too soon. As always Andy Serkis steals the show. Man this actor should be honored for his entire body of work that only seems to get better. Who doesn't remember Gollum from the LOTR (in all the parodies, homages etc. his precious is never overlooked), the very believable chimp Ceasar from Rise of the planets of the Apes, which many of my friends and family thought was a trained ape and now the absolutely stunning show-stopping performance as Captain Haddock. I hope the Americans will finally fall in love with Tintin too... Because blistering barnacles, I can't wait for the sequel!!!

Don't believe the hype, it's not as bad as they say!!
2 December 2010
Just finished watching "Dinner for Schmucks". To me it's a typical rom-com, but there's this weird guy in it that steals the show. I really liked the "mice"-en-scenes, the ones at the dinner were lame, but the scenes Barry recreated from his marriage were beautiful in an odd way. I liked Steve Carell, as Barry, because surprisingly of all the over the top characters in this movie, he was the most believable and lovable and I'm not a fan. It took me a lot of time to like him in "The Office", but thanks to Comedy Central over here in Holland and after a lot of sleepless nights with absolutely nothing else to watch, he kind of grew on me. Zach Galifianakis character was great too, but the only things that had me laughing out loud was some of the slapstick. S o was it a good movie? Yes, enjoyable enough for a Sunday afternoon. I tried to watch the original "Le dinner du cons" before I saw this remake but I couldn't stand it, because of the slow pace. Now I have seen the remake and was pleasantly surprised, I just had to watch the original, because everyone keeps saying it's so much better. I used to love Louis de Funes and the Pink Panther movies when I was a boy (and yes I know Clouseau wasn't really French!), so I gave it another go. I was happy to see Jacques Villeret, the sidekick of Louis de Funes in a couple of movies, but I guess that's also the problem. He needs someone else to shine and he didn't really on his own. The dialogs were more tongue in cheek than laugh out loud funny and I really feel sorry for people who think this is the funniest movie ever… I was also very disappointed that the actual dinner wasn't in the movie, because I expected the French to outshine the remake in it. So if you like Steve Carell you'll love this movie and as a remake I think it did improve on the original even though they gave it a typical Hollywood ending. If you really want to see a train wreck of a remake, I still think Louis de Funes' "Oscar" by Sly Stallone is the worst remake ever!

To be or not to be that's the question
24 November 2010
Though it's not a financial success. It is clearly an intellectual success. Just surf the net. Everybody has an opinion. Is it real or not? It's what we were supposed to think here and are supposed to think about everything we see. So whether you hate it or love it, is besides the point. Believe it or not, that's what's it all about. If you think it's real, he's a really good actor or in your opinion without ever meeting him a complete moron, that can't rhyme, has no flow, but still wants to be a rapper. If you think it's an elaborate hoax, he's not a good actor 'cause you think he was obviously faking it and you believe what he says without knowing him. Whatever your opinion, I hope your not still a fan of "reality" shows... Watching it is not as much fun as thinking about it, but any thought provoking film is a work of art.

If it had you thinking (and that's something you do on a daily basis) go watch S&Man and Catfish two other films that play with reality in a fictional setting or fiction set in reality, you decide, you judge, you think....

PS Don't surf the net first, do it afterwards for the full experience with all three of these films!

Almost impossible to review
24 November 2010
What have I just been watching? Good movies are supposed to make you think and that's what this one does. If you have the opportunity to see this movie do. Anything else I write would spoil the fun, but when you've watched it, I'm sure you'll be asking yourself the same question. So look for answers afterwards. You'll want to. The human soul is complex. We are horrified by tragic accidents, but we want to watch too. Every killing is a waste of human life, but the dangling and twitching of Saddam Hussein is one of the most viewed clips in history that's forever imprinted in our collective memory. It didn't make me feel any remorse and I certainly wasn't horrified. There are worse ways to die and he deserved it, I guess... But I digress, go see the movie, rent it, buy it and you'll find yourself surfing the net for answers, movies and clips!!!
