Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Oh what have you done...
I can only agree with the author David Morrel, it was a very basic scenario and only a few flashbacks here and there and some killing techniques referenced the original Legend that was Rambo. The rest is a rehash of various stories already told.
The last one was already bloody enough, this one takes it even further. Paz Vega is in there... no clue why, she has 10 minutes screen time and is barely relevant. It's entertaining, you don't need a lot of brain cells but man... what a missed opportunity.
Last movie, we were left with Rambo going to what would be the family ranch and that's where we start further in time.
Somehow, there's a mexican grandma and her granddaughter, we don't know anything about them except that the mother is dead and the father is a moron who left a long time ago. How come they are there with Rambo, go figure. It's like we're missing the short film between the last movie and this one.
But the girl is only there enough to give Rambo a reason to go nuts. And nuts he goes. It's a 60 minutes setup for the 20 minutes extravaganza of the 50 ways to kill bad guys in tunnels.
Rambo 2008 wasn't very profound but compared to this one, it was deep.
Undrafted (2016)
Those rare moments...
So many movies are made about the big Show, the big Leagues, some lesser leagues and so on with the usual big odds and big goals. Lots of drama or comedy, etc.
But this one shows a small but genuine moment in the life of a small team that barely matters over a single match that barely matters...
And it's awesome.
It's refreshing to see what can happen on a simple sunny saturday on that local field that you don't even glance anymore because it's just the decor you are used to and never thought anything special happen there.
There's a bit of overacting, some less believable moments. But there are also some hilarious moments and even though you might wonder what the hell you are watching up until the last third of the movie, it then sucks you in that moment with the players to live what is probably one of the best days of their lives.
A very nice movie. A very appreciated change of pace.
Deputy (2020)
Decent show...
It's a good show. It may not be caviar but it's very watchable.
My biggest gripe is Dorff. Normally a good actor but in this, he's delivering all his lines like he is giving a speech. Almost even when he's telling someone he's going to take a wizz. It's incredibly annoying because it never looks natural.
Other than that, it's on par with similar shows.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
So unfortunate...
I don't think I have much to add to the rest of the reviews even though I wouldn't use as much labels. Except maybe the diversity and clichés that are so ridiculously in your face that it defies realism. We're on Jupiter here folks.
It's like the writers had a sheet of paper with all the options and made checkmarks on every lines. This one, check. That one, check, don't forget this one, check... This is nuts.
As much as I'm fine with Rob Lowe and I'm sure (or I hope) it was meant to be some kind of satire of his persona, an entire episode of him freaking out about losing his hair and using beauty products is just... I just don't know what to say.
And what's going on with Liv ? It's like she still thinks she's in Middle Earth for some reason. They all sailed West, Liv. Snap out of it.
While the show is not original in any way, it could've been a good spinoff about firefighters and paramedics in Austin to fill a timeslot.
It's not. It's a grocery list.
Robin Hood (2018)
Mad Maxified Robin Hood
Well, that was a doozy. If you accept the Mad Maxified costume and decor with some Call of Duty type action, you might enjoy it a bit. There are far worse movies out there.
Otherwise, move along. It's too hard to keep focus with all the anachronism and surreal things on the screen popping up everywhere that makes no sense for what it is supposed to portray. And you lose interest.
The Kevin Costner Robin Hood looks awesome in comparison and at least, the costumes... Well, no but closer at least.
Tin Star (2017)
Great first season, disappointing second season
First season was great although with obvious cultural flaws as mentioned by others but otherwise, solid performances and a solid storyline. A very good start.
What a shame for the second season. It was so painfully inconsistant. It started fine with a few fun moments but there was surely 3 if not 4 episodes that could've been cut. It dragged and dragged and dragged up until the end...
Main characters are now bonified Rambos (heck, even tertiary characters are), they kill, steal and everything without the slightest concern. Everybody around are like "... ok whatever..."
The weather goes from -25c with characters almost freezing to death to sunny and shiny in a few days with green pastures all over the place and everybody is in t-shirts. That was just weird. How I wish the 20 feet pile of snow in front of my house would magically disapear like that.
And the finale is a let down. Suddenly, there is a big threat coming, wait for it, wait for it... 4 episodes later... aw.
Not sure what happened in the writing room but they evidently couldn't keep the quality of the first season.
Still hoping there is a third but...
