Biohazard 4 (2005)
No Zombies, No Problem
OK, I know a lot of people are bummed about there not being zombies in Resident Evil 4, but for those people, well, just pretend the people you are killing are undead. I mean, really, the game itself is so indescribably good, it's hard to down grade it, even if it doesn't follow the past RE's. Let me tell you this, Resident Evil 4 has revolutionized the series. Resident Evil 5 will not have zombies either, or 6, or 7, or 8 and all the rest, unless they re-revolutionize(0__0) it and bring them back! the Graphics in Resident Evil 4 are stuff of legend. The game, to this day, (2008) still has some of the best graphics ever. I compare this game to games of the modern era, and see that Resident Evil 4, if not exceeding them, is definitely tied. (Good god, i can't wait to see what RE5 on the 360 has in store) RE4's lasting appeal is amazing to players. I played this game through, oh, I don't know, about 5 times and I'm still playing it!!!! there are many reasons to replay RE4 over and over again, including all the hidden secrets you find. It took me about 4 beatings to find every single hidden treasure. However, there is a game mode where you can play as Ada, and long story short, if you beat the mission, you unlock the Chicago typewriter, a tommy machine gun that fires infinite bullets. Also, if you beat another game mode within the game, you unlock the hand cannon, an extremely powerful .50 magnum revolver that fires infinite bullets. If you do this, then it makes the entire game so much more fun. There's no need to 'conserve' ammo anymore, because if you run out, you always have a backup gun to take place until you find more ammo. When this happens, it turns the entire game into a great slaughter fest, and Leon becomes the "Blade" of Resident Evil.
One of the best games ever. Really, it's only competition is Resident Evil 5, and that doesn't come out too long from now.
If you like the Resident Evil series at all, get RE4.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
I felt like I was in space
OK, I saw this movie in a class called Film Studies, when I was in High School. Everyone thought it was terribly annoying with all the noises and everything. however, I was one of the only ones in my class that actually understood it, and what the film was trying to do. When all the noises are blasting off, and "the man" was in such a tiny space, the movie is trying to make you feel stressed, and annoyed. It makes you feel claustrophobic.
I am a fanatic of space to start with, I mean, sometimes I'll pull out a lounge chair in my backyard and look into space at night, looking at the moon, dreaming of going out there. I've seen what it could be like in 2001. Just the breathing of the astronauts makes your heart race, and barely anything happens. Seriously, PLAIN LOUD BREATHING makes you feel like you're in space.
then there's the computer, HAL. When HAL wouldn't open the door, you actually begin feeling the suffering of being trapped in space with the man on screen.
Best movie ever.
Why? Because it delivers a brilliant message with such little words.
Mass Effect (2007)
Astronomical
OK, first off, I just want to say that I am very fascinated by space to start with, but this game will amaze anyone who likes video games. Mass Effect is so masterful that it's hard to pick where to start. OK, I guess I'll start with the character creation.
If you're a fan of customization, that's already enough reason to buy Mass Effect. The creation goes so deep, that it's almost annoying.
The graphics in Mass Effect are indescribable. As i said before, I'm obsessed with space, and it's almost like I was there. When you land on Earth's moon, and you drive up a steep incline, Earth rises billions of miles away. If you've ever seen a picture of Earth from space, you know how beautiful it is. When I saw this, my jaw almost dropped. It was like they used a real life picture!!!!! That goes for the entire rest of the game too. Best graphics ever for years and years to come.
The story telling in Mass Effect is stuff of legend. The imagination in this game is incredible. Think of Star Wars, only yes, I'm about to say it........better.
If you're a fan of games at all, you will pick this up, and love it. Mass Effect is so convincingly real, you actually begin to think to yourself if the future 200 years from now will contain the things that Mass Effect does.
The aliens in Mass Effect are so amazingly detailed and unique, you are actually sad you can't pick your species. Lets just hope that you can in Mass Effect 2.
If you hate space and aliens and sci-fi, still get Mass Effect, because it does an amazing job of not only being a great RPG, but also a great 3rd person shooter!!!
