One of the best bands ever!
6 August 2020
Goldfrapp at Somerset House (2nd half of the DVD) is one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen from any band! Beautiful and intoxicating!

Satanic Panic (2019)
I Personally Loved This!
11 September 2019
Upon starting this, I was pretty much in agreement with myself it was gonna be absolute rubbish! I was pleasantly surprised! The characters are fun and the story is exciting. I'm really glad I stumbled across this film.

In my opinion it has a fairly fun, light hearted approach to something much darker, there in lies the comedy. Some of the scenes are insane and the lead actors fit their parts well.

It's certainly something different and a fine low budget Horror-Com! Better than most others!

Gosh!
4 September 2019
This is an absolute mockery of anything film related! How this monstrosity got the financing is beyond me! The writing, direction and acting is appalling! The director has obviously seen too many Tarantino/Guy Ritchie films and thought he'd try his chances at making one like it. Cringe worthy viewing and please, for the love of god don't waste your time on this like I did...

The Souvenir (2019)
Horrible!
4 September 2019
I usually get in line to see a film that has anything to do with A24 film producers. Also 92/100 meta critic rating! Were they watching the same film! It was so boring and has nothing going for it. The characters are not interesting and the story is pointless. The critics are dead wrong about this one in my opinion. Avoid at all costs! It'll bore you to death, that coming from a guy who loves slow burn films.

The Boat (2018)
Kept me watching...
4 September 2019
Quite a piece of filmmaking by the director and solo actor. I found the story very interesting as a whole. Although it may only have 1 page of dialogue through out the whole film, I think the director is trying to put the viewer through the same loneliness and despair as the character. If the protagonist had narrated or spoke more it might disturb the sombre direction of the film.

The plot is very light. It's basically about a guy trapped on a boat... Not much else to say, besides the subtle instances where he might not be alone... I'll leave it at that.

Overall this isn't a great film or a film I'll give a 2nd viewing but it was intriguing and kept me glued till the very end. The film longs for some better editing though. Anyone who says it's terrible really doesn't understand the message or slow burn journey the filmmakers are taking them on.

Overall it's worth the watch if you're into something a little less mainstream.

Carnival Row (2019–2023)
Not too bad...
30 August 2019
This is a review of the first 2 episodes.

The cinematography is fantastic and Cara's acting is surprisingly ok. CGI, set design and costumes are also very well done... I do have a feeling I may grow tired of the show before long. The story seems a little uninteresting and doesn't have that binge worthy quality I look for. This is just a quick review due to only watching the first 2 episodes and my rating could change, but a solid 6/10 so far!

Pond Life (2018)
A Magical Nostalgic Experience!
22 August 2019
If you was a kid in the mid 90's, England (like I was) you'll agree this film is perfect in setting the scene! The heaps of nostalgia I got watching this was both overwhelming and astounding. I feel if you wasn't this age at them times you might not get a feel for the nostalgic premise of which the film is amazing for! What a strange and pretty much carefree time it was. A perfect piece of mid 90s culture. I hope the director makes another gem like this. Happy I found it as well due to having no advertisements that I seen.

The film does have a fishing theme but doesn't dominate it. The main story here, the setting, a day in the life of kids in the 90's. The acting is really great, especially scenes by character, Pogo!

Beautiful and brought back many amazing, odd, surreal, adolescent memories of which was attributed by such a great set designer, script and direction.

I'd recommend to anyone who wants a glimpse into the 90s council estate culture with hints of comedy, drama and heartfelt scenes.

Great film

Beautiful
15 June 2019
Being a fan of Refn's previous work I've been waiting patiently for this and definitely not disappointed. Yes it's a slow-burn piece but with that it's building perfect atmosphere and mood! If you enjoyed Drive, Only God Forgives and Valhalla Rising you'll be in for a treat here. The soundtrack is dark, gloomy and the visuals have a beautiful tint of colours.

A little disappointed in reviewers saying it's slow and giving low scores after only seeing 1 episode. It's for viewers with open minds and willing to take in what's happening in a cinematography stand point, sounds, as well as acting and story...

If I was to compare this to other directors work I'd say it has a fair bit of Lynch's abstract filmmaking and Kubrick's tracking shots on top of its own unique originality.

Extremely dark, powerful, provocative and holds a place in my heart.

Heartbreaking
5 June 2019
Olivia Cooke gives a knockout performance as a teenager trying to better herself but constant obstacles make it difficult. It's a slow burn film that's quite depressing and hard to watch. Also a few controversial scenes that aren't for the faint of heart.

The film was made in 2016 but looks as if it's just surfaced now... It's definitely one of the better films I've seen in 2019 so far.

It's not a 10/10 film but it's certainly worthy of a higher rating of 6.7...

The performances from everyone in this film are good, especially Cooke and recommend it to anyone who loves great cinema and doesn't need crazy CGI and action to solely satisfy their viewing needs

Deadwood: The Movie (2019 TV Movie)
Underwhelmed
4 June 2019
One of the greatest series of all time gets a tired finishing film! I absolutely loved the program but this just felt forced! We should of got a final season, not an 1h50m of scattered stories which just seemed uninteresting in my opinion...

It was fun seeing the characters back together though

When I go back to watching the first three seasons again I won't be adding the film to the rewatch. Pretty disappointing.

Season 1, Episode 5
The final chapter
3 June 2019
Can't wait for the final episode! Very much doubt it'll fail on its final hurdle. I see a 1 star rating in the reviews which is out of order. You haven't watched it so why rate it and yes, Breaking Bad is amazing but this is a totally different show!

Prospect (2018)
Beautiful film in my opinion
26 May 2019
This is a brilliant slow burn Sci-fi thriller with amazing pace and is quite surprising unpredictability in its story. The acting is great, especially from Pedro Pascal! The editing and production value is all top notch. Nothing looks cheap and especially loved the scenery. There will be some of you that will appreciate this film and where it takes you. Cult status. So far it's my favourite film of 2019. Watch with an open mind and like me, you'll be rewarded and captivated by this. A beautiful movie

Love Exposure (2008)
Masterpiece in the highest level!!!
26 May 2019
I've never been so immersed in a film that lasted 4 hours as much as I was with this, and before you know it the film ends! This is one of the greatest I've ever seen and hardly no one has watched it even over 10 years on! It'll be hard recommending it cause of how abstract it is.

The acting is quite eccentric and surreal story basis is perfectly timed and laid out. I had an instant love for the crazy characters and their journey throughout this epic feature. If I was to give any advice before watching, keep an open mind. If you like films that are different from the mainstream then this is for you.

I can't praise it enough and definitely rate it with some of the greatest films in cinema history. One of a kind

I'm too old
26 May 2019
This film will be great for kids. Watching it at my age it's quite ridiculous. I didn't hate it. Parts are done well and has its charm. If I was a ten years old this would be great. So this review is the opinion of an adult

CGI is good for a low budget film.

Greta (2018)
I really enjoyed this
26 May 2019
I love them slow build, subtle thrillers. This film pulls that off! Acting is good, story is good and kept me glued right through. I did find the end to be a bit abrupt and anti climatic though. Both Chloe Moretz and Isabelle huppert are on top form here but always helps when in a very good film. Greta is certainly worth anybody's time I think. Enjoy

Keep with it
26 May 2019
I found myself wanting to turn it off in its initial 30 mins of silly pop music in the background, poor writing and what seemed to be lacklustre plot... Once we get into the 2nd act the film picks up. It's certainly no masterpiece but delivers in some ways and it's sinister plot starts to show. Overall it's a good film but will be easily forgotten. Enjoy!

Lord!
25 May 2019
CGI in this film must of been appointed to one of the child stars. If you don't have the budget to make the aliens and space crafts look good then use less! Quality over quantity. Pretty much everything about this film is dreadful. Maybe it's because I'm an adult watching a kids movie... lol

I also think this film shouldn't be viewed by children due to its frequent crude jokes and sexual innuendos. The film pretty much has no target audience

Terrible
25 May 2019
This is possibly the worst film I've seen in 2019 thus far. Who's idea to try and attempt a noir style film with this cast is beyond me. It fails on all fronts! Right from the get go with it's poor editing and cliche'd filled madness it's a no brainer the film needs to go in the nearest bin!

Big fan of noir so maybe that also helped in my vote! Avoid at all costs

Tedious
25 May 2019
The film does pick up in its 2nd half but by that time I built up too much hatred for it. It's noisy, characters are annoying plus a full deck of cliche's. I usually like critically acclaimed films but this, nah. Very disappointed... Many may like this film, I just wish I was one of them

I Loved It!
8 December 2018
Think of Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, David Lynch's Mulholland Dr, Brett Ellis's Rules of Attraction and you might get a feel as to what you'll find in this title...

This film ceratinly isn't for everyone! Surreal undertones, obscure scenes and some controversial storytelling which'll push it in cult status in years to come. The film also touches onto the classic Noir genre of the 1950's and does it very well. Perfomances from actors are great and engaging and the strange storline really pulled me in. Its definitely a journey well worth the duration if you're into something totally different to the generic releases being pushed into the mainstream these days!

9.5/10 a brilliant film

Black Swan (2010)
Aronofsky has done it again
20 January 2011
This extraordinary masterpiece had me captivated from the first minute right through to the end of the film. Now for all of you just expecting to see a light hearted ballerina flick then you are very wrong. I hav'nt seen Natalie Portman act as good as this ever, although she was brilliant in Leon and V For Vendetta. Mila Kunis has also shown first rate acting and Vincent Cassell was brilliant too as the strict ballerina teacher. Darren Aronofsky is becoming one of my favourite directors of all time, he hasn't made a bad film yet.

Maybe people might of heard that this film starts off really slow but trust me its not. The film is just setting itself up and introducing characters and mood. Expect to be shocked by startling scenes with extreme originality and surreal undertones. Certain parts of this film even gave me sweaty palms, its that intense. This film will leave traces of itself in my mind for many years to come and would consider it to be one of the greatest films of the past 10 years.

Natalie Portman deserves every award thats coming to her and the film should definitely have a run in for best film and best director. A MASTERPIECE 10/10.......J.D Seaton

John Woo's Masterpiece
15 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
this is by far John Woo's finest work. he has really made an awesome epic out of this. i really love the Dynasty Warriors games on the Xbox 360 so i really couldn't wait to watch this adaptation. it really is a fine addition to the great Japanese films that are being released.

the film is basically about character Liu Bei who has to defend and fight back a massive army orchestrated and ruled by the evil Cao Cao. the whole film is basically about a huge battle on who will be reined supreme of china in 200 AD. all the characters in this are really good and add something brilliant to it.

i do think this film should of been more mainstream. i think on its release i hardly heard or seen any advert's of it which was a huge disappointment. i really am excited on seeing the second part this. its a really rewarding film that should be watched by people who are into Japenese film plus War freaks. if you are into A House Of Flying Daggers, Hero, Fearless, Curse Of The Golden Flower and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon then you'll love this film............... 9.3...........j.d Seaton

Road Trip (2000)
Another addition to the "Teen movie" franchise
15 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
this film isn't bad. it just came out at the wrong time because the other teen films that were released at the time were a lot better such as American Pie, Faculty, Idle Hands, Scary Movie and the Scream films. there really was far too many teen flicks at the turn of the millennium. this film was far from the worst. just think how stupid that Dude Where's My Car film was. there's quite a large cast in this that includes Breckin Meyer (Go), Seann William Scott (American Pie), Amy Smart (Butterfly Effect), Paulo Costanzo (Joey), Ethan Suplee (American History x), Fred Ward (Short Cuts) and the ultra stupid Tom Green (Freddy Got Fingered).

the film sets around Breckin Meyer's character thats having a very long distance relationship. So he makes a video tape of him saying a lot of romantic gestures so he can post it to her. later on that night he sleeps with another girl that funnily enough gets recorded. that tape then accidentally gets sent to his girl friend so then he has to travel across America with some of his class mates to retrieve the tape before his girlfriend views it. it isn't a bad film but it really is set just for teens to watch it.

on a whole i'd avoid this movie if you've seen the other teen comedies of that time because you ain't missing much. but worth a watch if there isn't anything else on TV............ 4.5/10.............j.d Seaton
