Futurama: The Prince and the Product (2023)
Unexplainably Bad
One of the cleverest shows on tv delivers its stupidest episode. My genuine reaction to watching this was "what the hell is going on".
It's as though it were written as just one stream of consciousness with no thought beyond "whatever happens next is good enough".
They may well have been trying to parody an older format of television broadcast wherein an interstitial program is essentially the bait for some toy commercials- but this is a stretch if correct.
There is very little humour and even less cohesion.
Overall its an aggravating disappointment in a season so long anticipated. Truly deserving of the ire it's received.
Blonde (2022)
Honestly just endlessly dull
A meandering, plotless, unengaging, overdramatic and wholly unlikeable film that is nothing less than a chore to sit through.
Parts of the film are beautifully shot and these alone could be taken on their merit as a positive.
The acting is soapy and overdone, with Ana De Armas playing an exhausting one note portrayal of someone owed a great deal more vivacity in her range, even in the quiet of her private life.
Moments played for drama are hackneyed and overdone and leave the viewer desperately wishing to skip forward in pursuit of those all too few fleeting moments of levity that make the film just scarcely bearable to watch.
Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story (2022)
Does the victims little justice
Really strange that a three hour documentary on a terrible, terrible man seems to spend 75% or more of its runtime telling his life story and recounting with praise most of his life and career, while giving almost no time at all to the stories of his undoing or the victims he left behind.
Schmigadoon!: How We Change (2021)
Flat ending to an otherwise solid series
This really felt like a rush to the end, with lots of things built up over several episodes just tossed out at the end. Could have really done with maybe two more episodes to end properly.
The Space Between (2021)
Give it a chance and it'll surprise you
If like me you stumble on this movie without really realising how- stick with it, the payoff is actually really solid.
