The Look
Strephon kissed me in the spring,
Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
And never kissed at all. Strephon's kiss was lost in jest,
Robin's lost in play,
But the kiss in Colin's eyes
Haunts me night and day.

The Killing (1956)
Good, But Not Great.
Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing" is an interesting and well made film. It keeps you wrapped up in the story, and makes the characters very interesting as well. Despite all of the very good qualities of the film, I wasn't completely impressed. I thought that parts of the film were uninspired; especially the ending. Overall, it was still entertaining to watch and a good film. *** out of ****
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Great fun!
I watched Bringing Up Baby for the first time today and I was laughing out loud through the whole movie. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are both hilarious. Bringing Up Baby is a true delight to watch. You will be laughing and laughing at the crazy situations that keep happening to Grant and Hepburn. It is a classic comedy. Watch it if you ever have the chance.
Goodfellas (1990)
Goodfellas is a triumph in motion picture history
Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" is sheer brilliance. It is a film that engages you deeply in the story and it's characters. Every aspect of the film works. Nothing is out of place.
Scorsese's directing is flawless. He fits everything in place perfectly. The narration through out the film also adds a very nice touch.
The acting is all superb. Ray Liotta portrays Henry Hill with just enough edge and fire. It is probably his finest performance to date. Robert DeNiro as Jimmy Conway is compelling and strong. He gives a top notch performance as always. Now I come to Joe Pesci who completely deserved his best supporting actor Oscar for this film. He puts so much in his role as Tommy DeVito. Whenever Pesci is on the screen he steals the show.
"Goodfellas" is one the finest movies ever made. It is a true classic.
Tootsie (1982)
A Complete Delight!
Tootsie has all the ingredients that make a great comedy. Wonderful acting, an intresting story, and most of all great humor.
The movie opens with Michael Dorsey(Dustin Hoffman)auditioning for different roles on the stage without any luck. Everyone turns him down because they are looking for a different type. He works on the side as a waiter at a restaurant and lives with his friend(Bill Murray)who writes plays. Michael then finds out that he missed out on a role for which he was promised an audition. He complains to his agent(Sydney Pollack)about the part and his agent explains that no one will hire him because he is too difficult to work with. Not anyone. Michael sets out to prove him wrong. This is where the name "Tootsie" comes in. Michael dresses up like a woman and auditions for a part in a soap opera.
The movie really takes off from there. It is filled with hilarious moments as well as terrific performances. Dustin Hoffman is wonderful as Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels. He knows just how to carry his character as both a man and a woman. A truly memorable performance. Jessica Lange is both tender and full of life. She gives her character just enough edge without going over the top. Other very good supporting roles belong to Teri Garr,(a truly terrific performance)Charles Durning, Sydney Pollack, Dabney Coleman, and Bill Murray.
I completely enjoyed myself both times I have watched this movie. A comedy with an actual story. I would recommend this film to anyone. ***1/2 out of ****
