Los corsarios (1971)
6/10
A nice bunch of actors in a decent adventure film.
7 October 2007
The American singer and actor Dean Reed stars in this adventure flick surrounded by charming Italian and Spanish actors."Los Corsarios" is certainly not a masterpiece but it offers some funny moments and characters though. The action scenes are decent and there are a lots of comic scenes which keep the spectator's interest till the end.

The story is undoubtedly neither clever nor convoluted: Isabella, the beautiful daughter of the viceroy of a Caribbean island is in danger after the death of her father. Her evil cousin wants the throne for himself and is determined to get rid of her. Luckily, a bunch of pirates, led by the handsome adventurer Alan Drake shipwreck at the island and help the young princess.

Although "Los Corsarios" has some flaws in the plot, it is a good way to spend 90 minutes if you like adventure comedies. In spite of the shallow characters, the actors are especially nice.Fans of Dean Reed will be glad to see him in his Italian period while he was starring in spaghetti-westerns and adventure films. The other male and female parts are also convincingly performed.

God made them...Dean Reed killed them...
24 March 2007
The famous American singer and actor Dean Reed stars in this decent spaghetti western. He plays the role of the sly and adventurous gun-slinger Slim Cobbert who is hired by the mayor of a small town on the Mexican boarder.Somebody has stolen a large sum of money from the local bank and Slim Cobbert has to find out the robbers.A Mexican guy helps him in the investigation.Meanwhile,Slim becomes the most desired man in town and is adored by the young ladies.

Although the plot isn't anything special, the film is worth seeing. It has a nice cast - Dean Reed is convincing as Slim Cobbert and the others do a good job as well. The score is very good and Dean Reed performs the song "God creates them,I kill them" as well. The film has lots of action and good dialogues.

"Dio li crea... Io li ammazzo!"/"God made them....I kill them" is highly recommendable for every spaghetti-western fan and especially for Dean Reed fans.

Blood Brothers-Between Life and Death...
16 August 2006
"Blutsbrüder" is one of the so called "Indianerfilme" which were produced in East Germany. These were westerns which differed from the American ones since they focused on the fate, the adventures and the sufferings of the Native Americans. The white men,on the contrary were mainly presented as mean, cruel and greedy. In other words, the American and the socialist westerns showed two different versions of the colonization of the USA.I don't know which were more accurate in terms of historicity, but the East German westerns were smashing hits in all countries behind the Iron Curtain. In all of the films the main part was played by the Serbian actor Gojko Mitic who became a real celebrity in the socialist countries. From 1966 to 1983 East Germany produced 12 "Indianerfilme".Some of them were really good, others were mediocre.I think that "Blutsbrüder" belongs to the good ones.

The main parts in the film are played by Gojko Mitic and Dean Reed - an American singer, actor and pacifist who made a successful career in the socialist bloc after he had starred in several Italian westerns. He plays the soldier Harmonika who takes part in a bloody massacre in an Indian village. The violence against the helpless women and children repulses him and he deserts from the army. After that he is captured by the Indians but gradually becomes a friend with the tribe and the brave warrior Harter Felsen, played by Gojko Mitic. They both fight against the iniquities of the white men...Yes,the plot reminds of Kevin Costner's "Dances with wolves" and that's really curious.

However, the plot is interesting and the characters are complex:each of the both men changes throughout the film and considers his ideals and convictions concerning such issues as peace, revenge and forgiveness.A nice romantic story is added to the nice scenario. The sceneries, which are actually shot in Romania, are impressive. The music score composed by Karl-Ernst Sasse is outstanding and Dean Reed writes and sings one of his well-known songs "Love your brother" for this film.He and Gojko Mitic make one of the best performances in their career.Without a doubt,"Blutsbrüder" is highly recommendable for all fans of adventure and western films and it is one of the best from the "Indianerfilme" sequence.

Excellent co-production
5 February 2006
Directors Alov and Naumov gather great film actors from different nationalities(Russian,French,German) in the excellent "Tegeran-43".The film combines different genres and it has a very interesting scenario. Therefore, the audience keeps interest in it in spite of the big duration. The characters are really intriguing and the actors are marvellous. The music is also great:the popular French singer Charles Aznavour performs a very nice song. There is no political propaganda in the film at all.But there is lots of tension and even a love story. Moreover, the film offers you the rare chance to see Soviet actors in partnership with European once. And their partnership is really worth seeing.

It's difficult to forget this film...
3 January 2006
I decided to watch the film on TV because I understood that it had been extremely famous in Bulgaria in the 1970s and lots of people came out from the cinema crying. So I was curious to see "Haathi Mere Saathi" and I really enjoyed it.

The protagonist is Raj Kumar-a young man whose life had been saved by four elephants when he was a kid.Since then he loves them and doesn't think of them as "animals" but as real "friends".He falls in love with the beautiful Tanu.Unfortunately,Raj Kumar loses his fortune and becomes a poor man.But Tanu follows him and they struggle with life with the help of the faithful elephants.

Yes,the story looks naive. But what's more important is that this film made something that few films are capable of nowadays-it proved the great power of friendship and love in a really touching way.The songs are wonderful and the animals are trained incredibly well.Undoubtedly a highly recommendable film!

Louis de Funès and his big vacation
22 December 2005
The magnificent French comic actor Louis de Funès demonstrates his talent in this French-Italian film.He plays Charles Bosquier- a grumpy principal of a reputable boys college.Bosquier always controls his students very strictly. His problems start when an exchange program sends an attractive 19 year-old girl to his college in order to spend the summer vacation there and learn more about the French culture.Bosquier's son falls in love with her and they run away. So,the principal is on the verge of madness and he starts chasing them. The film contains lots of funny scenes and humor and of course the superb acting of Louis de Funès.Honestly, the scenario has some weak points.Definitely,"Les Grandes vacances" is not one of the best films of Funès but it is worth seeing.

Music and Politics
18 December 2005
"Get Up, Stand Up" is an interesting, intelligent and impressive documentary which treats the great influence that music has on the political events in the countries throughout the world. The 6 parts of the film include various events and persons who are connected with music and politics. The struggle against the racial discrimination in the USA,the battle against the hunger in Africa and even the war in Iraq are discussed by people such as the famous singer Pete Seeger or actors like Martin Sheen who are involved in the political events. This documentary makes you think of the great iniquities that politicians commit but also shows us people from the show-business who are not afraid of telling the truth. The symbol of the documentary is the great song "We shall overcome".

A very enjoyable and interesting film!
4 December 2005
I saw the film on TV yesterday and I found it pretty good. It's a pleasant mixture of comedy and drama, which tells the story of two fellows who try to get used to life in Russia after the fall of the Communism.Unfortunately, their desperate attempts to become successful businessmen and capitalist fail. When a beautiful girl meets them the situation gets far more convoluted. The film reflects the situation in Russia in the beginning of the 1990s with the gangsters, the problems and people's hopes for better future. The plot is interesting and full of funny scenes and lines. The actors are excellent.Definitely, the film is a very nice way to spend your evening.

The unforgettable children of the Sun!
11 November 2005
I watched that cartoon when I was a kid.I remember that it was very nice.As it was a long time ago I had forgotten most of the plot and the characters.

Some months ago a local TV channel aired "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" .In spite of not being a 5-year old kid anymore I sat in front of the TV in order to watch it again. And I really enjoyed it!

It is a masterpiece in the animation genre-a cartoon with an exciting plot, memorable characters and terrific music. Moreover,it takes place at an interesting historical period-the conquest of South America. Most characters in cartoons are rather flat. But here all the characters are intriguing-especially the Spanish navigator Mendosa who is both greedy and kind-hearted.The kids Esteban,Zia and Tao are really nice. The villains also have their charm.

Hardly any other cartoon has better music score. Not only the starting song "Children of the sun" but all the other melodies are stunning.

So,if some TV channels in your countries air this cartoon, don't hesitate at all-take your seats in front of the TV and explore the mysterious cities of gold where adventures never end-as well as our enjoyment!

Love and salsa
7 August 2005
"Salsa",directed by Luis Buñuel's daughter-in-law Joyce,is an unpretentious but pretty interesting and pleasant film. It's a story about a young and promising pianist who decides to devote his career to the Cuban salsa as he has fallen in love with this dance. He pretends to be a Cuban guy and organizes salsa lessons. Then he meets the beautiful Nathalie. Indeed, the story is simple but the films succeeds in matching romantic line, dances and comedy. Moreover, the actors are quite good and the songs are really nice.So the film gives you 100 cheerful minutes and the opportunity to learn more about the splendid culture of Latin America.

Dustin Hoffman strikes in Italy!
3 August 2005
In spite of the low rating of this film I got interested in it as I wanted to see an early Hoffman's performance and the story sounded interesting. So I watched the film and I think it isn't bad at all.Yes,it has its weak points but there is plenty of humor and fun in it.Some scenes can really make you laugh. The mixture of comedy and crime works in my view and the reason for that is mainly the wonderful Hoffman ,who makes a very good role. There is even a car chase in the movie which isn't bad for a film made in the 1960s.The plot is interesting, maybe it isn't so well written but it won't bother you and you'll probably find the movie nice. The supporting cast is also good:Elsa Martinelli,Gustavo Rojo,Ricardo Carrone,Fernando Hilbeck and the others do their job well.

Unambitious and low-budget but no so bad
25 February 2005
"Attrazione pericolosa" is a low-budget erotic thriller which succeeds in keeping the audience's interest maybe because it is only 88 minutes long.Yes, it its't anything special at all but it is worth if you don't have anything to do in the evening.

Carlo Monti is a young man who wants to reveal the secret of his mother's mysterious death which occurred in a strange car accident many years ago.He is an illegitimate son of a late film director.Carlo learns where his father's home was and goes there because he thinks his father was involved in the accident. There he meets Emma- a glamorous young woman who claims to be Carlo's sister.Carlo is attracted by her beauty but he soon realizes that he has got involved in a dangerous and mysterious affair...

The film has a tolerable scenario with some interesting and unexpected twists. There are lots of passionate love scenes as well. The acting is good-Monica Seller is sexy and mysterious and Gabriele Cori's performance isn't bad.Unfortunately some things in the film look implausible and naive but this flick doesn't have great ambitions after all.

Pasión de gavilanes (2003–2022)
8/10
The TV phenomenon from Colombia
24 February 2005
"Pasion de Gavilanes"(Passion of hawks) has been one of the the most famous and adored telenovelas in the world recently.Millions of people all over the world enjoyed it.Many of them don't like the so called telenovelas but they fell in love with this one.Lots of trashy soap operas annoy the audience so "Pasion de Gavilanes" was a real present for romantic people who don't want to watch banal and slushy films.Because this one is neither banal nor slushy. And there are a few reasons.

1)First of all-the plot. Many telenovelas have very clichéd scenarios about a poor but very sweet girl who falls in love with a handsome, wealthy man.But here the things are different. The plot is interesting and surprising with a lots of action and suspense.

2)The characters-in "Pasion de Gavilanes" each character has their own personality and charm. In most telenovelas characters are either perfect or very, very bad.In "Pasion de Gavilanes" there are no such implausible heroes. Each character has both good and bad qualities -there are no ideal persons or monsters. Each of the characters develops and changes throughout the episodes.

3)There is plenty of humor in every episode, lots of comic scenes and funny characters.

4)The music score is great-a lot of nice songs which make the atmosphere pleasant. There is a CD with the songs available on Amazon.

5)Well, the actors are great-both the protagonists and the supporting characters are played by very nice actors-the three sisters are really beautiful-the stunning Paola Rey,the charming and very talented Natasha Klauss and the tender Danna Garcia.Mario Cimarro,Michell Brown and Juan Alphonso Baptista are very good as well.Impressive performance by Lorena Meritano as well-she plays the cruel Dinorah with a style.

So, "Pasion de Gavilanes" is passionate and erotic in a way-but it is also very romantic and touching as love itself...

Charming!
27 December 2004
This film is definitely one of the funniest and most loved Bulgarian comedies. It is a story about a driving instructor in a small town who has divorced some time ago.Gradually most of the women he teaches how to drive a car fell in love with him. Each of them longs for some love and happiness so the situation becomes very awkward and comic. He tries to make each of them happy but soon he discovers that this is not very easy .As a result there are a lot of laughable moments. The film consists plenty of funny scenes and dialogs. Moreover, the actors are terrific. One of the most famous Bulgarian actors Stefan Danailov plays the main role surrounded by excellent actors from the supporting cast.

Love and Shots
18 December 2004
This film resembles a western flick and it is pretty interesting. In a small town in the Venezuelian countryside two powerful families live in a constant and ardent war.So the gunshots and the murders can't be averted.Aaron is the son of Abraham Paredes-the patriarch of Paredes who hates Numa Pompilio - the patriarch of Sarmientos.Aaron fells in love with Corazon(Heart)-a beautiful peasant girl who is very good-natured but she is illiterate .Aaron tries to transform her in a great lady. The situation gets harder when his selfish father also fells in love with her. Moreover, his son,Damian and Numa's daughter Yomira fell in love as well.At the same , Abelardo-Numa's son and Eloisa-Abraham's daughter have a love affair. But the protagonists will have to fight for their happiness in a world full of hate and struggle . The film has an interesting story,a nice music and a lot of action scenes with gunshots like in an Italian western. It is far better than other films produced in Venezuela which are boring and typical. So Pura Sangre is worth seeing.

A decent film
31 October 2004
The film became quite popular in Bulgaria and it had a big success. The story about a secret agent and a band of drug smugglers is an interesting one .Of course there is a beautiful young woman .Ivan Ivanov and Vanya Tsvetkova who were very loved in the 80s play the main parts in this crime story. The film can't compete with the American ones in action scenes but i t has its own charm. Moreover the film has some nice twists and a dramatic end.The actors make memorable performances and Ivanov and Tsvetkova are a really good tandem. The supporting actors are good as well.In spite of the fact that there are boring scenes The Racket remains the most successful Bulgarian action flick.

Tales of the Unexpected (1979–1988)
The unforgettable British style!
12 June 2004
This old-fashioned British TV serial has a terrific atmosphere . The opening scene with the mysterious dancing woman, the skulls, gun and cards is quite impressive. The plot is strange:different actors play in every single episode which is based on a short story. Many of them are written by the well-known Roahld Dall. The episodes are called horror and triller but in fact there is nothing which can scare you.Yes , there are murders , secrets and twists in the tale, and sometimes a dreadful atmosphere but the violence and assassination are shown very stylish. There are episodes that are really interesting and the end is surprising : The Olderely World of Mr Appleby,Man From South,Edward the Conqueror and many others.Unfortunately there are also episodes which look naive and boring. The actors are excellent:many famous British stars act in this TV series.I must mention the music which is very good.

Outstanding Mexican movie
15 March 2004
This movie is an impressive and exciting story about the people, their feelings, love, desperation, anger and hope.Although the scenario is a little bit melodramatic , the film is a must indeed. It is quite different from the blockbusters with happy ends because it is real and outstanding.Several lives and fates are mixed in it.Every character has their own unique personality. They all have to take decisions for their lives and have to fight for happiness. The actors are very nice. The stunning Hayek makes a good performance .Gomes Krus is also convincing as a man who becomes gay after 30 years marriage. The supporting roles are also well-played.Don't think that this is some kind of soap opera- it is something deeper...
