Holmes & Watson (2018)
Without doubt, the worst movie I have ever seen
I saw this movie a few days ago, well to be honest I saw the first 20 minutes or so and left. I couldn't take any more. The acting is so bad, I mean ridiculously bad. Two Americans putting on this fake English accent so badly, I assume for comedic effect, which failed drastically. The dialogue is pathetic and childish, and the the story poor. I'm surprised this even got a release. I expected more from Etan Cohen and the crew. This movie has no redeeming features at all. None! Utter garbage, and a waste of time money and effort. The biggest question is, why on Earth did they bother.
The Voices (2014)
Thoroughly enjoyable
I thought this movie was very good. I have never been a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds, but here he plays the part perfectly, Jerry is a confused guy who hears voices if he doesn't take his medication, notably from his dog and cat, who at times tell him conflicting things which confuses him even more. At heart Jerry is a likable, good guy working hard in the packing department, and tries desperately to join in and be liked by his fellow workers. His first victim was an accident, but spurred on by his cat, he kills again, all the time knowing it is wrong but can not seem to ignore the cat. He keeps the severed heads of his victims in the fridge, and like the cat and dog, they talk to him. When he doesn't take his medication we see the reality of things, his home is a mess piled high with rubbish and boxes with blood stains everywhere. So there are essentially two worlds, the world as he sees it without medication, and the one when he is medicated. He knows that taking his meds will help him by blocking out the voices, on the other hand he likes to talk to the cat, dog and severed heads, so he is torn between the two worlds. Yes he wants to get better, but he also knows that doing so he would lose the company of his pets (and the heads) Ryan plays this part very well and we can see the struggle he has with himself. We also learn that his mother suffered the same condition, and there are flashback moments with his mother as well as his childhood, which has bad memories for him. It is a very good movie, and you really feel for jerry. The only thing that spoilt it for me was the end credits, it went from being a dark comedy to a happy jolly dance number in, I presume heaven. That's a minor flaw in what is a movie well worth watching.
Redirected (2014)
Promising start, but then......Oh dear
This movie had quite a promising start, but unfortunately the writers ran out of ideas after less than an hour. The story is nothing original - bad guys had something taken from them, bad guys try to get it back, how original is that, it's been done a hundred times before (and a lot better) The story centres around 4 idiots who rob some guys with the plan to fly off to Malaysia, unfortunately because of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, their plane is diverted to Lithuania, and here's my first issue, The plane was diverted, yet it wasn't headed towards the volcano, which is north, Lithuania is east, as is Malaysia. Neither of those countries are anywhere near Iceland, so why couldn't it continue to Malaysia? And why Lithuania? The story kicks off at a pace with the feel of a Guy Ritchie movie, but slows quite quickly. The lads end up in Lithuania trying to get back to Blighty, being chased by all types of gangsters. The acting is very poor and unnatural, and instead of sounding like tough London gangsters they sound like posh boys trying to play the hard man, and it just didn't work for me. Vinny Jones was, well, Vinny Jones, and gave the sort of performance you come to expect from him, not exceptional, not bad, just...Vinny. The story runs out of steam, and the majority of the film has the lads running from place to place being chased, and that's pretty much the rest of the movie. For me it was a kind of nothing movie, easily forgettable. It tried very hard to be a Lock Stock kind of movie and failed. Don't be fooled by the 10 star ratings given by people from Lithuania, they are totally false and rated highly just because it was filmed in their country. Give this a miss, unless you have 90 minutes or so to kill.
Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie (2014)
Utter drivel
Words fail me, I honestly can not find the words to describe how poor this movie is, I mean, where do I start? Poor acting, weak story, not funny. very predictable. There was a time when Mrs Brown's boys was funny, but only once. It has far outstayed it's welcome on the small screen and if this movie is anything to go by the big screen too.
This movie, in my opinion did not contain one thing that I found funny and I think the whole Mrs Brown character is now well past its sell by date.
The story itself is poorly executed and dragged out for far too long. The acting is poor, very poor, and every scene is so predictable. It has obviously got bad guys in the movie and surprise surprise they are portrayed as Russian, how unoriginal and cliché is that?
This movie could have been better with a bit more thought and originality, it is almost as if they have taken a TV sketch and tried to stretch it into a movie and failed miserably. There are too many looks at camera, fine in the show, this doesn't work in a movie. They even keep some out-takes in the movie, Why? It just is not funny. I Think the main problem is that the writers and performers think they are funnier than they actually are.
This is the sort of movie that should have gone straight to DVD. Expect to see it in the bargain bucket in a store near you soon. Very VERY poor movie.
