A Christmas to Treasure (2022 TV Movie)
5/10
I wanted to like it, but I just really couldn't
25 December 2022
So, in the spirit of holidays, let's say the pros first. The movie looks cute, the set is good enough, and all the main male characters are handsome to look at (at least 4 of them). The story (some sort of scavenger hunt) sounds good on paper, and I can see why they went for that. There are a few solid characters, those being Everett, Ricky, Tipper (all main characters) and Rochelle (the real-estate seller). They were either well-written or just funny.

However, almost everything else I can think of was bad. The story, despite being cute, was just dull and boring. We didn't care for this dead old lady, which would be different had they started the movie with that "15 years ago" gig. There was almost no humor, and it felt like the movie lasted 3 hours. As others pointed out, there was not a lot of chemistry between the two male leads, which is a pity as they are a couple in the real life, so it was just either bad acting or script. I cannot figure out why in 2022 when literally thousands of movies exist, they still have annoying characters that act like children, such as Austin. The way he acted towards Everret was just plain lame. Like, get over it. Also, I was 3 "influensers" away from turning off the movie after like 2 minutes - they said those buzz words so many times I wanted this to become some sort of slasher movie. My god, it started so pretentios it hurt.

The movie is obviously inspired by the much better "The Christmas Setup", also made by a real-life gay couple. I suggest that you watch that before this one, and if you have some free time left, yeah, give this one a chance.

Much Ado About Christmas (2021 TV Movie)
5/10
Sorry, not a good one. Mild spoilers but you probably shouldn't care.
17 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story of this movie is so simple it could have ended in 40 minutes or less. Basically - a girl and a boy meet, the girl has a rich mother and she wanted to hide it from the boy to be judged on how she is rather than on her wealth. Fair enough, but once both the mother and the boy found out they both were "ohhh so you are ashamed of me", the explanation from the girl could be plausible easily in a sentence or two.

I was not really amused by this one. Well, perhaps the last 30 minutes were good enough. The acting was fine, at moments it was over-acting but still fine, and most characters are not annoying. But it's just dull. Also, there are so many shots of various European cities (I recognized Krakow and Zurich), I guess to set the story in a nice place, but if you know the basics of European geography, it just doesn't make sense. It also looks very fake, but I guess it's due to the low budget. And, I am usually not the one who cares about those things, but there are almost no black characters. One relevant Asian person. Even the white actors are mostly blue-eyed. What is this, north Finland? Well, there are at least many eye candies, no matter if you like men, women, or both.

All in all, it's a nice story and some sets are beautiful, but there are so many solid Christmas movies that this one probably shouldn't be considered.

Underrated for what it is
9 December 2022
If I bought a ticket expecting an action thriller based on a Shakespeare work and got this, I would be very mad and rate this very low. But, knowing what to expect - and we all did know what to expect - gave me no reason dislike this movie after I watched it. By no means is this a perfect movie, it's not that great even within the cheesy holiday genre, but it's funny, nice, feel-good, and with great performance by two main leads. Surely I didn't like everything about it, but it's good for what it is. And seeing how many people gave it such a low score, I cannot help myself but giving it a rating that the movie probably doesn't deserve. Settings were good, Lindsay Lohan was great to watch and the male protagonist is super cute. What is more to want?

Soft & Quiet (2022)

Indeed hard to watch but I liked it
4 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, props for the entire crew to be filming it in one shot, I can only imagine the pressure they were under. This is, if I am not mistaken, only the second one (next to Birdman) I've watched.

That being said, the story is as scary as it is simple. A group of well... white women gathered together to be hateful. The things they say are only scary because we all know this kind of people, and their stupidity matches their hate.

I think that the cast did a very good job, they were believable. Some characters are less (can I even use that word?) likeable than others, some are just plain annoying. The story went in a direction I did not expect, and while the audience might appreciate the last 30 seconds or so, I did not, it was not really believable.

I would say that in a year of really good horror movies, this one might be one of the scariest. Really not for everyone.

Prey (I) (2022)
9/10
Objectively 8/10, but because of the haters, 9 stars
2 November 2022
I assure you - many of the 4-and-under out of ten are giving this movie the low score they do because of their political beliefs. Plenty of them cannot stand the young girl being stronger than older men. I mean - c'mon, it's fiction - would you really want that the only one that can fight against the predator is 200cm tall 110kgs of muscle man (didn't we have that one)? Would that be more believable or entertaining? This girl had strength, but also the brain and the heart, which are missing for many people, in and out of the movie.

Also, many didn't like CGI. I thought it was either good or great, altho my eye is not that trained to catch a bad one. But that's often low-hanging fruit, as many effects cannot be objectively evaluated. Also many are "wait, ENGLISH?!" as they don't understand that the language they speak is indeed an indigenous one (honestly I am not that familiar with the languages of Indian American people, pardon my ignorance), while for the audience's purposes, what we hear is English. It would not only cost much more and be harder to do it accurately, but many if not most would not appreciate reading the subtitles.

The movie is really well made, mostly a fun ride (it did took a while until the action began), with great-looking scenery, action scenes, and likeable characters. I honestly don't have much bad to say, and I won't even try, you can read all the possible negatives from many, many other reviewers that seriously need to... relax a bit.

Unfortunately, horrible.
9 October 2022
There is so much to say, and there is also so little to say. This movie is bad, if not terrible, in every single aspect. The story is ludicrous, the acting is mostly very bad (I kinda did like Maxi Witrak), and the FX is beyond bad. The two good things are the title and the cover.

Pitty, I really feel like some of these Asylum movies could be almost fun and have some cult following. But they are simply too dull and there is no talent or passion involved in creating it. They are only made to trick viewers into buying or watching them.

Ignore the poster, ignore the title, ignore the "fun" idea, this is a waste of time and electricity.

Single Black Female (2022 TV Movie)
3/10
Very, very bad, ends up being fun (for all the wrong reasons)
30 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I kind of knew what to expect. Low rating and the fact it's the remake (to some extent) of a much superior 1992 classic (Single White Female) should be warning enough, however, I just had to check to believe it.

There are way too many plot holes, the biggest being (pun not intended) the fact that Simone managed to drug and somehow carry a big woman from the parking lot to the top floor of the house. Of course, it doesn't stop there. The fact that quite an uncharismatic TV host, the protagonist (Monica), is somehow beloved by the audience and objectively handsome men (think George Constanza and all the women he dated, just reverse the gender). Or how stupid the main protagonist was, she literally was in the house where a dead body was for days, if not weeks, and she didn't even suspect the smell ("Yeah let's check the DVD first, it has to be something important"). Her mother is even worse and seems to be a plain horrible person.

Don't get me wrong, much of the cast is also acting stupid, with a possible exception of her best friend, Bebe. But also for her, it took her hours of knowing that Simone killed two people and held hostage her best friend, before calling the police. I almost died laughing when Monica said "Bebe, I am calling 911" when the house was already on fire. She should have said "Bebe, you stupid idiot, we are all gonna die BECAUSE OF YOU!"

I can probably think of something nice. It is a stupid movie, but it's also captivating and fun. Its run time is less than 90 minutes and it's rarely boring. The main antagonist, Simone, played by obviously talented Amber Riley, was an interesting character, and it's kinda easy to sympathise with her, once you get to know her story. Some side characters seem to be fun or nice. The fact that the two main characters are plus-sized is a plus to me, all body types need representation.

But I cannot recommend it unless you want to have some campy fun. If you want a real thriller, watch "the original".

The Razz Guy (2021)
Horrible... And I've only seen the trailer
29 August 2022
In the year 2022, there are still people working in post-production thinking that using so many fonts in the trailer is OK. Also, from the trailer, which usually tends to be made of the best parts of the movie, the acting is horrible, the sound is literally so bad it's unintelligible, and the humour is non-existent. Filming a movie on an iPhone and consulting young, actually funny people, would make this movie 10x better. Not saying it would be good, tho.

Since I did not actually see the movie - I will not rate it, so consider this a review of the trailer. Quite literally 0/10. To the film-makers - please - try harder or find a new carrer.

Horrible conclusion to the horrible season
19 April 2022
Nothing much to say here, really. This was a bad show that could be summed up in a few sentences, if not words. The finale gave either unsatisfying answers or just raised more questions. I don't care about possible season 2 and I will not watch it. Series score: 3.5/10, finale: 2/10.

Christmas Perfection (2018 TV Movie)
6/10
I enjoyed it for a few right and many wrong reasons
24 December 2021
It is one of those movies that could have been quite good but because of the lack of money and imagination ended up being mediocre... at best. The story doesn't really make too much sense nor the rules of the magic world are clear. The humour is almost non-existing. BUT... somehow, it ended up being good enough to entertain me on a lonely Christmas Eve. The actors are fine, and Irish Christmas is something I did not expect to see. All in all, 5.5/10 is all it deserves.

Started scary, ended up not that great
17 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Seemingly a routine talk to a psychologist ended up being our heroine's prison sentence, and boy was I hooked. The first 20-30 minutes were quite unsettling, as this scenario seemed both probable and scary. I for first barely ever read contracts. But once you start to realize what is happening, the movie loses its magic and ends up having way too many plot holes. I just couldn't ignore the fact that the bad guy got the job there and she ended up locked in that institution. Her knowing him and his name but not insisting on someone (including her mother) googling him? The real George Shaw had no trace of him on the Internet? The bad guy leaving the phone for her and she went (yet again) crazy, instead of solving the case by sending the photo elsewhere or calmly showing it to the guards? Yeah no. I mean, the movie still kept you guessing how will it end and it was entertaining and fun, but once the logic was out, so was the chance I rate this over 5/10.

A drama. A horror. A thriller. A comedy. Most of all, fun! This movie is one of the most entertaining pieces of cinema I have watched for months, if not years! It is original, which I did not expect to see any time soon, and I did not see the twist, the "it" coming (if you did, good for you!). Many likeable characters make you invested in the story. This is not a perfect movie by any means, but because of a surprising amount of haters, I am happily giving it 9 stars.

Bad but not boring
31 August 2021
I guess the movie can be described as a mixture of "Misery" and "Get out", but with TV movie quality to it. The story is fine but predictable, the acting is not that great (the kids in particular), camera work is bad and flashbacks are pointless and weird. The whole backstory regarding his father could have been skipped. The voodoo part and how it works was not explained and that was the most interesting thing here. Almost nothing about the movie was good, except how beautiful Mr Hardwick is. And it was not all that boring.

Quite disgusting, mostly nonsensical, but not that bad
17 July 2021
It's quite a challenge to understand and rate this movie. I kinda liked the tone and the fact it was a slow burner. However, it's really not clear what the movie tries to be. A horror-mystery? A female-empowerment flick? Rosemary's baby modern remake?

I seriously did not get most of the movie. I did not get characters and their motives. Dream sequences. Or what really happened and what was her "mommy brain".

Then, however, I was not bored for the most part. It did keep me questioning. The biggest problem, most of the questions will end up unanswered, and then it finishes in a weird finale. So, not the worst movie made, but cannot be recommended to many.

7 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen a few horror movies lately and I gotta admit, I was done with gore (which I usually dislike) and people being mean. I wanted to see a good animal attack movie. This one seemed like a good deal. Well it isn't. It's boring (extremely slow) for like 60 minutes and disgusting for 20. All characters were stupid, especially the husband, for the reasons many other already pointed out. Terrible.

Till Death (I) (2021)

Surprisingly good, give it a try
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
(Spoilers down, you can read the first paragraph)

Seeing a score of 5.8/10, one would expect either a boring or just plain stupid movie. I am very happy to say that this one is neither. It's actually very suspenseful, having only a slow first 10 minutes. After that, it basically doesn't stop till the end. Also, I honestly cannot say I've noticed anything wrong with how characters think, speak, or act. Including the main character. Again, this is a very fun movie to watch, I would rate it 7/10 but seeing how many people gave it unrealistically low scores, I rose it up to 8/10.

(Now the spoilers)

I see many said "Just use the glass and cut his arm". I was thinking the same, sure. But cutting an arm of an adult man (you know, with bones and all) is not easy AT ALL. It is also disgusting, so obviously, this wasn't her first idea. She has - at first, tried all things that make much more sense - she looked for knives, tools, she tried to run by a car, she wanted to call someone. Had she have more time (you know, BEFORE THE BAD GUYS WANTED HER DEAD), she probably would eventually try the glass. Also, it seems that this "plot hole" is the only one anyone has mentioned. Her talk with Tom kinda showed that she is a smart character. Seriously, it's a good movie.

A critically underrated horror movie
9 March 2021
I had very low expectations going into this movie, having a score of only 5.8/10 at the moment of writing this review. And oh boy am I happy I gave it a chance. Yes, it's a rather typical monster/parasite/isolation movie, but it did everything good or great - acting, suspense, monster, pace. No, it's not a perfect moive by any means, and I would give it 7 stars if I would want to be objective. But since many others gave it such an unfair rating, this was the only thing to do. Please, give it a try, you'll have a great time watching it.

Just came back here after watching "The Call"
28 December 2020
When I watched this movie almost 9 years ago, I loved it and I remember the plot and helplessness of the main protagonist, and how well it was made, every now and then. Watching the Korean remake (how to turn tables...), I think this one is weaker but still such a nice and well made little movie. It works well as a thriller and drama. I suggest you to watch the Korean one first, and then this one, both are well worth of your time.

I almost have turned it off after some 20 minutes. Good thing I didn't... I guess.
21 July 2020
Some 5 minutes in the movie, our main lead, Nicholas, went to order a coffee, being treated extremely rudely by the coffee-bar boy, just because he is - at least the movie wanted us to believe - ugly enough to have a complicated coffee order. And instead of showing a spine, he acted as it was a completely normal thing. He also has a bi*chy straight girl-friend and annoying flatmate.

I disliked literally all of the characters of the movie in the first half - including beautiful but pale Xander (the second lead), for smiling like an idiot all the time, his old flatmate for being too curious about his life, Nicholas' boss and his secretary, basically, all characters that had any screen time.

However, somehow the movie turned out to be watchable, even enjoyable and cute. It's not, by any means, a great movie, but it's good enough to give you some emotions and stay entertained. The plot, despite being a bit stupid and easily solvable, still made some sense. And it shows the search for true love from the perspective of a guy most of us tend to believe we are - average, cute, romantic one. 5.5/10

6 February 2020
Seriously. If Netflix wants to offer us a 30-min-long informercial next to some actual series and movies, with each episode we watch they should deduct 50 cents from the monthly plan. What is this?? Propaganda of snake oil in 2020? I can understand how some Netflix originals can be hit-and-miss, but this is seriously some new low.

Or even burn till the end. Seriously, I don't mind 150 minutes watching a movie and I was fairly invested to see how this one will end, but it ended with such a meh I am almost mad. The movie is not terrible and obviously many people found it good, but I am not one of them. And I hated the fact they filmed it so far from Sweden. If Scandinavia was expensive to film it there, Baltic states are just across the sea.

In spite of the haters - this movie is really fun and well made, watch it
3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, spoilers

Should I write anything more than the title? I see this one-lined reviews that rate the movie with 1-3 stars. Some didn't even finish more than 10 minutes and yet feel adequate to trash it. Some don't like profanity in a movie where so many people die. Some find it unoriginal, as there is much room left for originality. Let me just say this. The movie is not perfect. The main character is not always perfect in her decisions. Seeing "normal" people getting crazy because of the card is not that believable. The last minute and the paranormal touch is a bit of mess (they exploded? would be better if they burned or melted, not some quick death). But the movie is still smart, fun, scary, funny, gory, and very well made. 7.5/10, but in spite of haters, 8/10!
