After watching the trailer for Battle: LA, I was initially impressed and went to the theater with relatively low expectations, fearing that it would be a standard B- movie. I was in for a huge surprise, as is anyone that is willing to put aside the bullcrap "I'm a critic" and watch the movie because you want to be entertained. The director did an incredible job piecing this together, keeping it intriguing throughout the whole film, with several twists (obviously some were to be expected, but regardless it was interesting to see how the characters worked through it.) I honestly believe that the critics can say what they want about a film, and change people's opinions based on what they say, in this case, they negatively bombed a movie that deserves a lot more praise than it's getting. Battle: LA is an action packed "Black hawk down" meets "Cloverfield/District 9" and it does an incredible job at fulfilling the attempt of being those 3 movies in one.
Obviously everyone is going to have their own opinions on this, but when did it become a standard to go to a movie to be a critic and not to be entertained? Does it matter that the story was clichéd; Avatar's was even more so than this! But Avatar was fun to watch, to be entertained, not to be a critic, as is Battle: LA. This is a movie that I would be happy to see in the theaters again, it's an action packed alien thrill ride that deserves more than it's getting.
