I did like the fact that the film didn't dwell so much on the comedy part of the Stooges.. although the re-creation of some of their classic routines was excellent.. The film was entertaining because it was a story about the Howard brothers.. Not to forget Larry.

I was fortunate to meet Larry when I was a child. He was doing a personal appearance at Hess's Department store .. and as a 7 year old who loved seeing the Stooges on TV.. he was a very nice and also a very gracious man.

I do think that it could have been a bit longer .. the film seemed to rush from Curly's stroke in 1947.. right to 1955 with very little about Shemp.. Also there was very little about Joe DeRita..

However all in all .. a very enjoyable film.. even for the non-stooges fan.. whoever you are :)

Just watched the widescreen version on DVD. I really enjoyed watching Dean Martin, Burt Lancaster, Helen Hayes, Lloyd Nolan, Van Hefflin and other major stars in this film, and a very enjoyable storyline lets them practice their craft at their best..

The P&S version I'm sure loses a lot due to the various widescreen effects, the cuts and pan shots and how the director filled the screen.

I haven't seen this film since it was new in the theaters 30 years ago, but it was immensley enjoyable and I recommend it highly.

I've just seen the new reissue of "A Hard Day's Night" on DVD. Mirimax has re-cut the film into a 16:9 widescreen edition and it looks great in widescreen. If you missed this film growing up, or don't know much about The Beatles, this is the quintessential film about Beatlemania and the most well-known pop group of the 60's.

The second supplemtal CD is full of extras that you will enjoy, with interviews of the supporting cast members, which I found really enjoyable.

If you are fortunate enough to own a Laser Disk player, look for the Criterion CAV version (1987) of the film, which is the 1982 re-issue and occaionally is available on online auction websites. This version is in the origional 4:3 but it has a Dolby Stereo rather than the origional monophonic of the VHS tape which has been around for years. Mirimax did a good job on the DVD, but the Criterion CAV version has the origional Theatrical trailer as well as the "I'll Cry Instead" prolouge which was added to the film in 1982.

But whichever version you see, turn up the volume !!!!

I've been watching the 40th anniversary brodacasts on TVLAND today, and this program is still halarious, even after two generations have past.

I was very young when these shows were origionaly brodacast, and I haven't seen many of the early black & white (pre 1965) shows. These early brodcasts, in my view, are superior to the later episodes where the wonderful innocence of the Clampetts is lost to silly subplots. The writing is supurb, and the comedic skills of the actors involved make this one of the classic american comedy shows of all time.
