The Humans (2021)
Good play but bad movie
The Humans is probably really good on stage, but the movie is awful. Bad decision to allow the playwright to direct his first feature film. He must think it's very arty to film a room from another room and all you see are the backs of people who aren't even speaking. The cast is uniformly good; it's too bad the director thought it was more important to shoot stains on the ceiling than actors.
Flesh and Blood: Episode #1.4 (2020)
That's the end?
I just tuned into Masterpiece expecting to see more Flesh and Blood only to discover a new series is starting! I can't believe Episode 4 is the finale. There has to be more to the story!
Ozark: All In (2020)
Powerful Season Finale!
The Emmys were given out last week and this season of Ozark reminds me why I hate awards. Julia Garner is great as Ruth and I don't begrudge her Emmy win. But how in the world did Janet McTeer not even get a nomination for her brilliant portrayal of Helen? Also, I've been a fan of Tom Pelphrey ever since he was on Guiding Light. It's another shame he didn't get a nomination. I guess all those guys from Succession played more likable characters. Anyway, this was a fabulous conclusion to a terrific season!
Marcelino pan y vino (1955)
Good Grief!
I saw this film as a child and it scared me to death. I didn't see it as a beautiful tale about the power of goodness. I would say it was the first horror film I ever saw. That a statue could come to life and then cause the boy to die at end was traumatizing to me and gave me many nightmares. I'm glad my church had no statues, or I would have refused to go!
