If you are like me you expect a few things out of a horror movie. 1: Good original story line, 2: gore 3: suspense 4:characterization and 5: good cinematography. I must say this movie fulfills each of my categories. I would especially like to note the originality and the cinematography! If you like clive barker books/movies/comics/whatever, this movie should not disappoint you. This movie was not nearly as intense as hellraiser, but I would agree with the critics that it is the best adaption since hellraiser or his short story "The Hellbound Heart". The only person that I know that disagrees with me is my brother who cought silly things from the book. Such as "the main characters occupation was different", (and yes that really is one of the reasons he did'nt like the movie. The only critique I shared with my brother is the book had a much more abrupt and twisted ending. This movie you see it happening gradually. The good thing about this movie is that it happily answers the views questions of "wtf" is happening.

All in all I would say this is the best and most underrated horror film as of yet in 2k9.

This show was always a family favorite in my house growing up. My dad believing in aliens was obsessed with the show. So having been years of not watching the show I expected something big from the movie. The pay off wasn't really what I thought it would be. The movie focuses too much on Molder and Skully going back and fourth with each other. "You should get on the case...." "You got me on the case, now you need to stay on the case". There are no aliens or anything really creepy about this movie. It was good, but also forgettable.

My honest verdict, is to not get your hopes up. If you want to watch the x-files watch one of the TV seasons. I believe those are more fulfilling than this movie.

I don't know about you, but I heard this film was out of control. I heard it was "the most disturbing movie you will ever see". While I am sure this was true for when it was released, its semi-standard now. This doesn't mean that its a good family flick, it just means there is worse out there. With that said, there are still some bad things about this movie, like rape. That isn't particularly easy on the eyes. The storyline took a surprising shock. That is one thing I did not expect from the other reviews (which surprises me). I also really liked the setting of this film. They did a good job of making you feel as if you were there.

If you want to feel shocked, go watch my all time favorite horror film "Inside".

Lets start with the good things about this film. It was 3d and I think it made the film rather enjoyable to watch. When I first saw the trailer for this film, I was skeptical that the movie would suck and they would have the grand excuse "Well its 3d" as if that would make it awesome. With that said the acting was really good, the storyline was decent, towards the end you were sorta on the edge of your seat. This movie also did a decent job of creating an atmosphere.

I do have a few issues with this move. I think they could have done much more with the 3d aspect. If you are thinking the pop out at you scenes are going to be right in your face then you are wrong. There is about 1 part when they do that. It actually made me angry because I said to myself "wow they really are capable of doing that,yet they chose not to"... While the dialog is pretty good, I found myself bored in the middle. There just wasn't as much mystery as they wanted to portray. Most of the victims that were murdered weren't developed well as characters, so I didn't really care. For example 1 victim was sleeping with a man who was married...

With everything said this movie is a good experience. I say bring a date, get some popcorn, enjoy the nerdy glasses and have fun. Do not expect a "movie of the year", just a good time!

I liked the original. I liked it to the point where I didn't want to see the American version and be bored. I must say the American version was much better. It seems that in most Asian horror films there are those long empty scenes of silence (which can build to the horror effect, but I think it is often overdone). What bothers me is this is normally done when it is remade, but this film didn't do that. It moves at a good pace! One last thing I really liked is the explanations of events. Some horror movies leave you saying "How/why did that even happen?" That or the explanation is cliché or boring (The Messengers is a good example). This film has really awesome and creepy explanations that make sense. I would say horror looks good for 2009 because of this film. Its worth paying for a movie ticket to see it in theaters.

After watching a bad horror/comedy this movie really seemed like the best movie in ever! Of course I still have favorites over this film, but I was truly blown away.

This movie deserves to be mentioned while talking about the best of sci-fi like "Event-Horizon, 2001 space Odyssey". This is meant for every aspect of the film. From the acting, to the story line to the graphics (if you have a blue ray, get this on blue ray!!!) to the characterization, to the feeling of helplessness, etc. I am skeptical of sci-fi movies but this movie made me a believer! My vote, do yourself a favor and rent this movie!

I think we are all growing a little tired of the movies like "hostel I and II", "The Strangers", "Last House on the Left". Thats what I thought this movie was, just another one of those films. About halfway into it I even considered turning it off. I mean for what it was at that point it was good, but I didn't think it was much different than those other movies.

At this point in time, I did like how the soundtrack went with the movie. It even got creepy before anything really happened. This almost reminded me of "The Descent" (man, I am dropping a lot of names in this review!). Then the movie eventually got to a point that made me think its like all others. It was still made very well, but I almost considered turning it off! To say the least, I am glad I didn't! This movie had me cheering, clapping, laughing, and really cheering it on. You really do feel for the characters. I mean the character development in this film was absolutely great! There is so much more I want to say about this film, but I do not want to ruin anything. Rent and Enjoy this movie.

I felt tormented watching this film. Not that it was a bad film, but it was really hard to rate. For example the opening scene was soo awesome! Then I got to meet a few of the main (somewhat cheesy characters). Then I liked the acting of a few from their group. I mean they were a group of quirky people. There was pretty good dialog in this movie, which almost shocked me at first. This movie also had some cool twists. Not in a twisted ending type way, but more like "wow that was pretty messed up" kind of way. There also wasn't a huge build up. Nothing really jumped out at you. There wasn't anything terribly original or cliché about this film. If you want to see a decent movie you can watch it. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, but if you cant think of anything else go ahead. I say if you want to watch a movie similar and yet better than this, watch Duel! Now thats a suspenseful movie.

I must say this movie was a huge let down. I personally love all the high school crap horrors (Scream, I know what you did last summer, etc.) So I thought with a movie where the chicks mom tries to kill her, her soul belongs to the devil, this movie would rock. I enjoyed the preview and figured the movie would have more to offer, but it didn't! There was nothing that will make you jump, or give you nightmares. I mean the plot line was decent, a big problem that i had was that they could have done so much more! Now lets move to the ending, it sucked! I almost thing the producer was trying throw the viewer off. That or make an ending that is so lackluster that it is meant to disturb the viewer in a different sort of way. You know like charging a high price to see a horror movie when it turns out to be a high school the musical installment. If you must watch this movie, leave about 10 minutes early, and make up your own ending in your own head.

Be ready for a really bold opening scene. Make sure everybody in the room is silent and ready for it. Watch that opening scene, stop it right after when the opening credits roll. THen shut the movie off. Your friends will be mad at you for this, but make up an excuse to your friends. You don't want to be embarrassed that you recommended this movie. It really is that bad! This movie starts with horror and moves into a more lifetime special... only this wasn't really special. The mood from the beginning is ruined. You now have to watch extended scenes of the main character getting "drunk" and the "drunk" acting is horrid! This movie really is a waste of time, if I had to rate just the opening scene I would have given it a 10/10. The rest would have been a 1/10, and so mixed together, I gave it a 3/10. If you want to watch a good b horror film, look at some of my other reviews, there are good ones out there!

I enjoyed this film. It was not the best film I have ever seen, thats for sure. It was refreshing however, the concept of this film. For once there aren't zombies involved, or the good guy turns out to be the bad guy clichés. The colors he uses are truly unique! I actually think Frank Miller is secretly a fan because of the use of red in argentos movies. The bad things about this movie was that it realistically could have been condensed into 20-30 minutes. As you can imagine the middle was drawn out, and almost boring. There wasn't as much blood as I expected from Argento (blood doesn't make a good movie in my opinion either, but from Argento its what I expect to see). This is another movie I would suggest seeing if its at the local store, if you don't see it and you want an Italian gem, rent "City of the Living Dead" (and I know many argenta fans will be mad at me for saying that, but its just my opinion). 1 last comment is that this film feels pretty dated, its weird seeing velved walls...

I get lucky sometimes and find a gem at the video store. I have never been lucky to the extent that the gem I found becomes one of my all time favorite movies. That is exactly what this film is. I don't think a day has gone by without me referencing this movie. The idea, so brilliant, you think would be outplayed by now, but it is completely orriginal! This film starts off a tad bit slow, but once it picks up (which doesn't take long) it doesn't let up! Its demented and eerie as well as bloody! As disgusted as my friends girlfriend was, she said she was glued to it because she had to know why! Isn't it nice having a movie with such a plot where you think "why is this going on?" I mean that happens to me often, but normally with cliché endings, and this movie does not have a cliché ending. The ending of this movie will stay in your head for quite some time! If you do like horror, please rent this film!

I really give this movie a 6.5, so I decided to give it a 6. IT was a fun movie to watch. Once again, get a group of friends together and put this in. The story itself is slightly a rip off of "psycho", which isn't a bad thing. This is also a pretty straight forward plot. It has a killer ending, and some surprisingly good special effects. If you see this in the video store, pick it up and give it a try, if you don't see it, don't stress yourself. I am sure you can watch the best scene on youtube anyways. 1 last thing I wanted to say is that the main character is actually very believable, and played his part almost too well!

The difference with this film and others similar is that they normally are not funny. I don't think I can watch another "Scary Movie". This movie was honestly different. I watched it with one of my best friends and we couldn't believe how much fun we had. On the bad side the plot is pretty basic and straight forward, there is no "crazy twists". This film simply is what it is. Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent storyline, but its the humor that makes it worth watching. I personally rarely even laugh at standard comedies like "superbad", but this movie was great. Here is an example, they are all telling truthful secrets about themselves and one guy says "I once wrote Santa a letter asking him to make me not Jewish anymore" its just random/bizzar and funny, its a must see! Watch this movie! Watch it if you have a sense of humor, and watch it if you have a group of friends with a sense of humor, you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!! BTW this was sorta a horror movie day, and out of the 5 horror movies we watched this was by far the best!

This movie has it all. Good dialog, acting, humor, suspense, atmosphere. Sure the "monster" isn't the most creepy looking thing in the world, but that doesn' ruin anything. That shows how good the movie is! How many times do you watch a movie and dislike it because "the monster" looks so stupid, or you are annoyed that they never showed it. As I have said that makes little difference to this movie. This movie will also not change your life, but it is a great way to spend an hour and a half any night. There are a lot of good horror movies that are good once, and thats it, but not this one. I could easily watch this several times! BTW I was skeptical watching this because I saw the sequel, which was rather pathetic first. Now I regret saying that, Thank you IFC for proving me wrong!

So far I have watched The Abandoned (basically sucked), Borderland (pretty decent), and Mulberry Street (which was good), but there hasn't been anything "great" until I have seen this! This film was what I have been hoping horrorfest would come out with all along (a decent original storyline). This will not have you jumping out of your seat or give you nightmares, but its a really good storyline. It was so good I felt sad that it was over! I got attached for to the characters, they did a good job making the "harvesters" look creepy! I am shocked this film also has gotten a pretty low rating, and reading the reasons why such as, their outfits at the end, is just a stupid reason to me. So if you don't mind outfits that are semi rip-offs of "the matrix" then you just might enjoy this film! If you want to watch a horrorfest film, watch this one!!!!

After reflecting on this movie, and watching other good movies, I decided to knock it down to 7 stars.

I was surprised that I actually got a few chills out of this movie. I found myself saying things through the first hour like "boring, so what, who cares, on with it". I would say this movie is fashioned after the creepy Asian horror films, where it is quiet and creepy. The first hour I really was pretty bored, and considered turning it off numerous times. I am glad I didn't because the ending was actually pretty cool and made the story. Without the ending the movie could have easily gotten a 3 or 4. In fact the ending was so good I could give this movie a 7, but considering I had to suffer through the first hour doesn't cut it. I liked the fact that this movie gave me a few chills, and even made me jump at once, but I wouldn't recommend this movie over others!

The scenario of this movie was superb. A House in the middle of the woods with an alien tied up, 3 redneck friends, a strong headed woman, an alcoholic cop, and 1 normal dude. There is a lot more to it than that, but thats the basic premise. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, rent something else! For being a b-film they did an incredible job. The Cinematography was great creating a creepy atmosphere. They made full use of surround sound. I don't know why more films try to take more advantage of the surround sound. The dialog was great. There wasn't too much action or dialog, it was a good blend! It made me jump and cringe which is also rare, especially for me! There was only a few bad things to mention. I had higher expectations of what the alien would look like. It was nice that they didn't try to save it for the very end which seems to be far too common in sci-fi movies. It almost reminded me of the old school Creature from the Black Lagoon.

In all reality I give this movie 8.5, but since I can't rate it as that I gave it benefit of the doubt with a 9.

Reading the plot for this movie got me really excited, and the preview helped confirm that. I was HEVILY disappointed in this film! While the idea was good, this movie just dragged on and on and on. I laughed after I looked at the short running time once the movie was over. Watching this was almost like watching a 90s jean claud van dam movie or something. Cheesy dialog as well as action. Thats right the fight scenes weren't even good! What I did like a lot about this movie ws the cinematography, it was excellent. The Idea in intself still is pretty cool, it just wasn't done very well. This movie was almost like 90s jean claud van dam movie meets john carpenters vampires. In fact if you haven't seen Joh Carpenters Vampires go watch that instead haha.

This was actually a well made movie, but not what I was expecting!!!!! Maybe I would have liked it if I were in the mood for an emotional half attempt at a thriller. In fact I don't even know how to categorize it because nothing stuck out. There are a few build ups to get you saying "ok this is going to get creepy" then you realize you were wrong. I do not know what else to say about this movie other than it wasn't what I was expecting. So many people have said its really scary, more like almost scary. This is a good movie if you know what to expect or if you dislike horror movies. I would say this is up there with something like "What Lies Beneath" (only I liked that movie better).

Once again people who dislike horror movies seemed to have rated this movie low... This is a horror movie so if you like horror movies then you will like it! It had a genuinely creepy feeling which was great for this movie. In fact it was made pretty artistically because it goes from her normal life where everything is super bright to the point where it almost hurts your eyes, then her dreamself which is really dark and morbid. There is a lot of symbolism in this film and a killer ending. I love movies with twisted endings that aren't predictable. If you pay close attention to details you can begin to figure out a few things, but its hard to guess. This was an original idea, and pulled off really well. This would have gotten a higher rating if they created more suspense, I mean there was a few good parts but for how great the story was they could have done a better job!

This movie was truly a gem. If you are a horror fan, you waltz the film stores hoping to find that gem. The one that there is little to absolutely no hype about when there should be. Well... This is it! Now, this is not a typical brain dead slasher. While watching this you will constantly be trying to figure out what is really going on. The rising action and climax is top notch. I normally watch the preview and read reviews, and I must say both were extremely modest! I have read some reviews on here saying that nothing happens and its all build up, hmmmmmmm...... Maybe they gave up and didn't watch the last 20 minutes! I normally don't buy a movie unless its one of my favorites, and I do now want to purchase this! If you like movies like Saw, where there is gore as well as story then this movie is for you. If you want zombie or vampires or some other ghost type thing, this movie is not for you. Its realistic, and there is a lot of dialog (all of which is great), there is mystery to it, and it keeps you on your toes! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

I think this movie should make big time Hollywood film-makers a bit nervous. (I would go on about this point but enough reviewers have already talked about what it had taken to get this film made and i don't want to sound redundant). I wouldn't say its any better than say 28 days (or even weeks) later, but its also certainly not worse. There were in fact moments of this film that I got really into and I would say outdid some of the other zombie films. For example in movies like 30 days of night (which basically is more of a zombie type movie than vampire)there is the long tedious scenes where they are watching for the vampires through a crowded basements window, or in 28 days later sniping zombies from a rooftop. This movie just flat out didn't have time to do anything like that (that is once it really got going), it moved very fluently. Another example would be that at no part in this movie did the characters ever use a gun against the zombies. The dialog was great, the characterization was awesome, and you were really rooting for their safety.

Now for the few downfalls. There is no twists or turns in this movie (not that it has to have one to make the film good). It was for the most part predictable in the general storyline sense. I got annoyed with how often there was a newscast to announce what was going on. Even tho it was a good refreshing zombie movie, there still wasn't anything incredibly new.

I say this move is a big tease because what they essentially did was take some really cool things from the original, messed with them slightly (emphasis on slightly) and then put it in a "new" movie. Its like waving meat in front of a dog and as soon as he goes for it you put it in your mouth (I know there are some of those people out there jerks!)but hey sometimes its fun to be teased. There is nothing really new here as one would hope. The movie started out really amazing which now seems pretty deceptive. They could have kept going with other things and made it quite different, you know like what a "sequel" does, not a replication rip off. For example this time there was no mystery to who the head vampire was, it was painfully obvious, and almost boring. I was hoping something cool would happen with their Aunt (who is renting them space) it would have been rad if she was the head vampire and had a classic 1 liner like "couldn't you tell, first I sucked the money out of you, now its your blood" i mean come on there was no mystery to this movie whatsoever. One last good note is that Edgar Frog (Corey Feldman)had some great 1 liners to share one of my favorites is "Pop goes the weasel".

***update*** I just read a few other reviews that said there is a part after the credits, so I checked it out and its true. This actually made me feel a bit better. Maybe this movie deserved another star. The Alternate ending is also pretty good!
