NOT as good as the book (of course)
13 May 2004
It`s always the same thing when you read the book first and then see the film. Very rarely the movie manages to get to the level of the book, and this doesnt happen here either. Acting is pretty decent and especially delightful is the performance of P.P.Petelius as the father. The Plot seems to jump allover but some scenes really gets to the atmosphere of each age. So the whole film seems to be more about the development of social structure in Finland through the 60`s, 70`s, 80`s and 90`s rather than about the persons and their individual dreams and nightmares (like in the book). In the end it`quite superficial but not necessarily bad movie.

Bruce Lee rules!
11 March 2004
Bruce Lee really rules. Before this I had seen only "enter the dragon". It is usually considered to bee his best film, so I didn´t really know what to expect from "way of the dragon". I liked it very much. Biggest problem I had with it was that I had to watch the english dubbed version. I prefer the original language! Lee really knew how to entertain the audience. He was funny, but not too funny. I particulary enjoyed the last fighting scene when "Colt" was defeated. For once the bad guy went down with honour! I recommend this to anyone who likes a good kung-fu movie. There might be better ones, but no complains. 8/10

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Does it get any better!?
8 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*spoiler allert* What a great cast! What great performances! What a great script! What a great direction... Pulp Fiction is absolutely the best movie of the 90`s. This is my honest opinion. It is also one of the greatest movies of all time. And the best thing about it is that you can watch it as many times as you like and never get bored! Maybe I´m praising it too much, but I can´t help it. "Kill Bill" was also a Very Fine Film, but this tops even that. There isn´t many other movies with this much of phrases to remember. I cant say I have seen any movie with dialogue like this! No surprise. I give full 10/10

Highlander (1986)

Bad acting, but good atmosphere.
8 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*spoiler allert* Highlander is a typical 80`s film. Like in most

of these kind of films they didn´t put much weight on acting. Even Connery is pretty bad. But it isn´t the point of this movie perhaps. With the perfect soundtrack it gives you the heroic atmosphere that it is supposed to give. So even if it is not a great peace of art, it is still very entertaining and much better than most of the 80´s adventure/action flicks. 7/10

WOW!!!
10 February 2004
Here we have it. The Best movie of the third millenium. Nothing was wrong in this one. It goes immediately to the top 10 of all time movies. Uma Thurman is the sexiest/coolest thing there is, although Lucy Liu doesn´t come far behind. Beautiful swords and exellent philosophy with them Sonny Chiba of course). Darryl Hannah is also pure FUN she has one of the best characters in the movie history. I really hope she will have more time on the screen in the vol. 2. Chiaki Kuriyama had a perfect role as the vicious school girl. Tarantino really knows how to pick best things from the movie history and make it to a even grater movie. It was Fun!!!10/10

It´s not hopeless, but...
10 February 2004
Veikko Sinisalo was one of the greatest finnish actors. Still he couldn´t do much for this film. It´s quite bad, in fact. There are also other big names (nationally) from the older days, like Siiri Angerkoski and Veijo Pasanen. It is not a very funny movie because all the jokes seem pretty forced. It seems there are quite many this kind of silly movies about the army out there. 4/10

The Beach (I) (2000)

Don´t bother.
9 February 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*possible spoilers* This one is nearly total waste of time. It doesn´t make you angry, it´s not that bad, but there isn´t much to be happy about ether. Acting is OK even if Leonardo Di Caprio over does it a few times. It could also be that he is just one of those actors who irritates me somehow. This was a disappointment after trainspotting. It was a new kind of movie, nothing we had seen before, and 28 days later was also very personal film and a grate thriller. Beach was nothing special, but i have seen worse movies also.

a solid western
30 January 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*possible spoiler* I still can`t decide if Jimmy Stewart is one of the best actors ever, or one of the worst. OK -he isn´t a bad actor but somehow he always seems to be too relaxed and too polite. He hasn´t got that bad attitude that could sometimes improve his performances. But altogether he made pretty good role here. The story is not your typical old obvious story which surprised me positively. Arthur Kennedy is great in his performance as the main villain. Hey the fact that he turns out to be the bad guy was absolutely genius! This isn`t the all time greatest western but it`s not that disappointing either. I give it a pretty good: 7/10

Too much Tom Cruise
29 January 2004
I wanted this one to be good, but it was what I thought it might be. a good idea for a movie but why must they make everything so "entertaining"? By entertaining I mean, that every movie is made the same way all other big Hollywood films. They are always making a box-office-hit not a good movie. The movie would have been much better without Tom Cruise stealing the show. He is not that good actor (not very bad either, but this time I had too much of him). It`s true that this is very much like dances with wolves, but there is one big difference. In D.W.W. the film is about indians and the wrong picture white folks had about them. in Last Samurai the focus is on Cruises character. Lot of good things in the movie too: Great fighting scenes, Great music, some Great acting performances, Great japanese scenery... I wanted this to bee a great Samurai movie with Tom Cruise in it, but I got A pretty good adventure film located in Japan starring Tom Cruise. I give it 7/10

pretty useless stuff
24 September 2003
If You are a huge Jim Carey fan, You might like this, but all in all it´s pretty useless film. Plot is very thin and just not funny. I have to admit that Carey is quite hilarious and I guess the producers know it too. It seems that no one cares about what kind of films they make if they only have him in it. The Whole film rests only on his funny faces, which we have seen already in all the previous movies he has made.
