The Equalizer: The Defector (1985)
Minus 2 stars for the sound track
The music is ok - BUT LOUD. It never even starts during dialogue, but justs keeps pounding. Reminds me of the Italian sound engineers in the 60's. Had to keep playing with the volume control.
Jack Ryan: Pilot (2018)
DOUBTFUL AT FIRST.............BUT!
WOW
We were looking for a Sunday nite time filler and ended up watching 3 episodes back to back.
Excellent casting and locations with a few twist and turns along the way.
Already looking forward to season 2.
Battlefield Recovery (2016)
BATTLEFIELD OBLITERATION
As a WWII and VIETNAM artifact collector and anateur historian I had high hopes..but like the series on the scripted Thames River archeology, this was a terribly expoitive attemp..
These "experts" blunder around and actually use excavating equipment such as back hoes to dig massive holes in the "sites" to recover artifacts, thus obliterating any provenance or in situ relevance.
They display absolutely no respect for human remains or the historical significance of what they have discovered.
I was stationed in Vietnam for 13 months (Danang), and on the WEST WALL (Spangdahlem/Bitburg), Germany for 7 1/2 years. I personally explored the front from Huertgen Forest all the way south past Trier.
As soon as human remains are discovered the appropriate authorities should be brought in to record and document any further excavations.
I know; My landlord's pastures had bunkers and yes, we found remains. Plus any and all ordinance and explosives should also be reported to the authorities. In Germany around the US bases we called EOD, and they handled it. For one of the actors to actually pick up and examine an incendiary device is just plain stupid given his so called "expertise".
nuff said.
thank God no one was hurt ripping holes in the ground.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
The liberal standarte channel strikes again.
Forget everything you ever imagined or figured out about a STAR TREK series.
The liberal LBGTQRST version has arrived.
From the network the gave us a lesbian romance on their Family channell on CHRISTMAS DAY 2012 comes their version of Star Trek.
They've touched all the bases from gay to evironmental doom.
I hug bunnies and trees like the next person and a person' orientation is none of my business....but come on guys..this is Star Trek.
Lines are barely deviverable..need more rehearsing. music, graphics are all 3rd rate.
These guys are way too advanced for a pre Kirk timeline, and this whole business of a microbial thread holding the universe together getting threatened ....well.
speaks for itself.
Klingons?? they look like the alien in Enemy Mine not Warf.
Thank goodness I didnt use up my free week....removed the channel from my Roku and the all from all devices.
The Grey (2011)
Unrealistic on all accounts
As soon as they survived the crash I had problems. All that metal, tubing, wiring, and they did not use any of it to make weapons. Ottway had 12 Ga shotgun shells for a rifle. I kept shouting - find the rifle!! When he did - he threw it away even though he could have used it. Why go to the trees when they had the plane's wreckage for shelter? If they had a knife - make spears once in the trees. I would have had a bunch of them with me. - Maybe even a bow to extend my reach. When the storm started - make a shelter, with punji stakes all around. How did the wolves ( presumably the same ones that stalked them) get down the cliff, and if that was their den at the end - how did they climb up to begin with. AND why would the wolves go up to the tundra when they had a den next to the river in the forest?? AND of course - no guns or knives are allowed in carry on. I've traveled too much and spent too much time in wilderness environments to forget what I know and just enjoy the movie.
Playhouse 90: Alas, Babylon (1960)
I too remember this on TV
I too was a student in N Florida - Pensacola - when this aired. In fact Pensacola was specifically mentioned as one of the targets - ".. there goes Pensacola". The hair on the back of my neck stood up. My dad was in the navy which is why we lived there and it was a target. Later in Jr.High school drama almost became reality during the 1962 Cuban Missle crisis - all our desks were turned away from the window - air raid drills, etc. I even had neighbors with fallout shelters in their back yards - we would use them during sleep overs!! Wow In later years while stationed in Germany and facing the East Block for real every time we had NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) training I remembered that episode of Playhouse 90 and the scary feeling because we lived at ground zero.
Changeling (2008)
WOW - Oscar Material!
What I thought would be just another mediocre Jolie flick quickly turned into a gripping, glued-to-the-seat drama. Angeline Jolie is superb in this true story about the 1920's LAPD, and the lengths they went to prove her wrong. Mr. Eastwood again rewards us with a film reminiscent of all his past works combined. Jolie and Eastwood need to expand on this new found relationship and give us more, more, more!!!! The cinematography alone is Oscar worthy, and I will be really disappointed if this film is not nominated for Oscars all around. I rarely buy DVDs anymore, but I will purchase this one as a keeper. As a history buff I am thankful that Eastwood and company have enlightened us and made us aware of this dark period in LA's past.
