let's make this a cult hit
18 October 2002
After living under the illusion that my uncle and I were the only Americans to like this movie (or to even see it), it's nice to know there are some fellow movie fans with good taste. Of course, any movie that stars the lovely trio of Rachel Leigh Cook, Tara Reid and Rosario Dawson should be a must-see for any heterosexual male. But I digress. I would have been absolutely fine with these three jumping up and down and playing their instruments for an hour and a half, but the movie was actually very clever and funny. As a true-hater of the boy-band craze we find ourselves in, I was laughing right off the bat at the spoof-band Dujour during the intro. Rachel Leigh Cook was so cute it should be illegal and Tara Reid was hilarious as a ditzy blond. Rosario Dawson's character was kind of lacking however; basically all she did was stand around and look pretty. But that's alright. Also terrific in the movie are Parker Posey and Alan Cumming as two great characters that could fit right into an Austin Powers movie. Hey, there's a thought. "Austin Powers and the Pussycats: Crime-Fighting Team". Don't think it'll happen, but a guy can dream, can't he?

Die Hard 2 (1990)
not as good as original, but pretty dang good

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT It seems this film has been panned quite a bit over the years by reviewers, but I really enjoyed it. After reading some of the user comments on this site, it seems that most would agree with me. Sure, there are huge plot holes along the way, but as a pure action movie it's a lot of fun with some incredible shots. My favorites are the one of Willis flying towards the camera after escaping the cockpit full of grenades and the terrific ending when the plane explodes after he throws a cigarette lighter on the leaking line of gasoline. Who dreams up this stuff? Definitely not as smart as the other two, but still a great piece of eye-candy.

Saving Grace (1986)
good flick; ever heard of it?

I must admit that my main reason for doing a comment on this film is that there aren't already 200 about it. I haven't seen this movie in forever and am not sure how my family ever heard of it. But I remember it as a very sweet and sincere little movie about a pope putting his money where his mouth is, getting off his high horse and actually helping those that need it. The movie is funny along the way but, more importantly makes you really think about what you believe in and, once you decide, how that should affect the way you live your life.

Superman (1978)
always makes me smile
18 October 2002
I just watched this movie again last night and still love it. I was a year old when it came out, so needless to say I didn't see it in the theatres...not until a Warner Brothers film festival in Kansas City five years ago. To finally hear that music in a theatre and see those (mostly, besides some obvious miniatures) great effects was a pleasure. Last night I had to watch it on a 13-inch screen, and still could not fast forward through the opening credits and John Williams unforgettable score. I absolutely love Christopher Reeve in this movie; could anybody else have played Superman? Obviously, it is absolutely ludicrous that nobody would recognize Clark Kent as who he really is, but the way Reeve plays the nerdy Kent makes it believable. Gene Hackman is hilarious as Lex Luther. My only wish is that they could somehow superimpose Teri Hatcher over Margot Kidder, but maybe someday. Obviously, the end doesn't really make any sense if you think about it, but who cares? It's just a great movie; a true American classic.
