29 to Life (2018)
From Frame One
This was a good choice. I almost watched another polotical documentary.
Alex Magaña nailed it with 29 to Life. This is where independant cinema had arrived. A well shot, well crafted, multi layered feature whose story had me from frame one. The line between indie and studio has been erreased. Only differance is the promo budget. Clooney made $239 million, but there's still room for others. 29 to Life is the proof.
Radicalized (2015)
Voice of a generation protest film
This is an amazing achievement; it's a documentary structured like a feature in 3 acts. I was on the ege of my seat for the entire two plus hours of this feature documenary. If documentaries have souls, this one has a very deep rice one. I'll be watching this over and over. Not since Medium Cool have we had an American protest film of this caliber.I have seen a lot of fims come out of Occupy, but nothing that even begins to compare to this, most of them are imposting a particular perspective, this one is not. It brings you into the trenches without imposing a perspective. It follows an anarchist collective in LA that, like OWS, is easy to dismiss until you listed to what there saying. In Radicalized you have the opportunity to hear and understand the Millinieal resistance in a way that we haven't before... unless we were there.
