The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live: The Last Time (2024)
A fitting end...
The negative reviews for this entire series are kind of comical. Is it perfect? No. Was the original series perfect? No.
The last episode, as expected, feels rushed. By the end of episode 4 I knew they'd have way too much to fit in and a few things happen that feel a bit too convenient but it feels like an abridged story rather than a fake-out that we got repeatedly in Fear The Walking Dead.
So, that aside, it feels like we finally have the answers we needed and some kind of proper closure for the franchise. It's been great to see some fantastic performances from Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira alongside a mostly strong supporting cast.
Paul Hollywood City Bakes: London (2016)
Embarrassing
Found some of this series interesting but the London episode is an embarrassment.
This is the best London has to offer?? THE most basic afternoon tea with Warburtons bread used for the sandwiches! Aside from the strawberry dessert it looks like the kind of afternoon tea your nans old people's home puts on. I cringed.
There's some (hopefully manufactured) drama where the chefs at this top hotel can't make a sandwich and sausage fingered Paul has to save the day and get them to cut them in half to make them "acceptable".
If you're watching the series, please skip this episode! It's not representative.
Welcome to Chippendales (2022)
Chippendales Fairytale
If I hadn't watched the documentary I'd probably have enjoyed it more. I don't get why so many characters had to be fictionalised. It's a fascinating story without adding fake people into the mix... and then making them so crucial to the plot. It's just stupid and lazy. And they left interesting characters out!
The last couple of episodes were short and feel tacked on. Again they're 75% fantasy.
Such a waste of genuine talent and good performances. Nanjani really gets to show off his dramatic chops here. Ashford plays his wife very well. Murray Bartlett makes a great Nick. It's just a pity they were t given a better script.
Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
Takes some getting used to...
The first episode had me scratching my head a little. It's like the worst version of every crappy sitcom you grew up watching... but then there's the dark side. The reality of the sitcom wife. And her story becomes more and more compelling with every episode. This is actually a fantastic show but seems destined to be misunderstood... mostly by people that laugh at King of Queens I'd imagine.
American Auto (2021)
Really hit its stride in season two...
Such a crime that it's not coming back for another season.
It had a rocky start but this second season has been a scream. Loved it. Characters developed. That trademark JS weirdness creeping in. So good.
Breaking News in Yuba County (2021)
SO much better than expected...
This is an offbeat, dark comedy. Every actor here plays their part so well and Janney is awesome as usual.
It's maybe not as clever as some films with a similar tone but it's engaging, it's funny, it's violent and it's acted well. It's well worth 90 minutes of anyone's time.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
No Preconceptions
Okay, I viewed the film with no preconceptions.
I've been a big horror movie fan all my life and love Last House, Evil Dead, Chainsaw Massacre, Fulci, Argento... the whole gamut of the genre.
Anyway, this film is trash... but it's worth seeing. There's nothing new here and yeah it's a rip off/homage to TCM and Last House and more but it's heart is in the right place and it manages to be pretty tense and creepy at times.
It's no masterpiece but it's mean spirited enough to make it more interesting than the mainstream crap that's out there.
