Jungles, Explosions, Robert Downey jr, Oh my!
3 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is a comedic flick about of group of trained actors who are led from the movie set into the real jungle, and don't realize this for some time. A bunch of amazing one-lines and some scenes that will make you pee since you are laughing so hard. A few slow moments break up the laughter and there's always some awesome explosions. Due to swearing and general guy-humor this isn't a movie you would watch with Grandma, but it is a great movie when you get the gang together and some popcorn. The whole cast is amazing, most commonly remembered is Robert's role as the black leader Lincoln Osiris, and the longer the movie goes on the more you love this role! And yes, he does stay in character for the DVD commentary. Overall one of the best films I've seen in a long time, and as dorky as it is, you can't help but love it. The directors cut is much better (I think) because of the length of scenes and they explain more then in the regular version. And yes, you will be singing Apla Chino's song for a long time after the movie ends.

Slow moving, but hey! Strip Clubs!
2 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Besides the action and fun gun fights and the awesome training montage there's another subplot. Love! It sound dorky, but I totally felt for Kong (the main guy) who falls for this pharmacy girl and they start dating awkwardly since he can't hear or talk. She guesses his job is a gas-station man, but he mistakes her "words" for hit-man and he nods. Later when they get jumped by thugs and he saves her by shooting them she freaks out and leaves him. He just saved you! Stupid chick! So he gets depressed and goes back into the hit-man world... Overall a fun slow-action movie that is great for passing time and has a little bit for everyone. Some blood from the fighting, but it's nothing dreadful.

Tones of the Earth

Warning: Spoilers
While watching this your eye will wander and you will notice a repeating pattern of shades. Black. White. Brown. Red. Over and over you will see these colours painted over the screen, bringing this movie to life. Frankly thats the most I recall of this film. A fun movie to watch with friends on a rainy night, but we ended up spending half the movie going "Huh?". Trust me when I say I'm an Asian horror pro and this wasn't scary. There was, maybe, one scene where you would jolt but this movie wasn't to frighten you but make you think. A talk about a strange adopted boy being cast out by his ever-growing-apart parents. And he really takes the term Tree Hugger to the max. This boy loves his tree. It's sick...Dying...and the boy is desperate to make it healthy again. It's it best friend. Lots of turns in later half, and finally when it's over it takes a few minutes of discussion to fully understand everything. Overall, its enjoyable, but not scary. Good for people who love Asian flicks and no gore.
