Sacred Games (2018)
If it stays as good as the first episode was, we have a gem on our hands here!
I just finished watching the first episode and I found it to be extremely fantastic!
The production values are top-notch, the screenplay is damn good and is acting is excellent.
The only gripe, is that sometimes the editing is a bit off and jarring. But that's just nitpicking.
If the entire season is like its first episode, we really have a gem on our hands here!
Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! (2013)
Where are the real gangsters? Hint: Not here!
I am a huge fan of the first movie, which I've seen more than 10 times, and I obviously loved it. It's a shame though that I can't say the same for it's sequel, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara.
The movie's script feels like an afterthought, like they first decided to cast Akshay Kumar in the role of Shoaib, then thought, okay now what should we do with the character? Even the director and his team knew that the story is extremely flimsy, so they decided to put in as many one liners & punch-packing dialogs as possible.
And it would have been better if these dialogs had been any good. They're unintentionally hilarious. I'll talk about that in a while.
Everyone in the movie talks like they are at a "mushaira" for dons.
They all speak in punchlines, especially Akshay Kumar, who seems to be hamming it up here.
And above everything else, they gave so many one liners & punchlines to Imraan Khan, who can't say them right even to save his life, it just makes the matters worse.
Talking about Imraan Khan, he does not do the movie any good, he doesn't look the part, doesn't act the part and whatever lines are given to him, he just makes the mess of them.
And it's not like that the dialogs are worth remembering, they range from passable to downright hilarious, and not hilarious in an obvious way, but in a way that the film makers had never intended.
Take this for an example, Imraan's character actually says this in the movie, (Translating in English because of the site's rules). Love is like a maid, it comes every day, does it's work and then goes away. And it's said in the movie in all seriousness. Unintentional laughter is in abundance here.
Akshay overacts, he's always wearing shades & smoking big cigars, &when it comes to dialogs, he just messes it up by trying to act super cool.
Imraan, just as always, is pathetic, this guy can't act to save his own life. One of the worst actors of his generation. He doesn't even look like a don in the movie, he looks like a high-society kid trying to mimic a don for a private spoof video.
The less said about Sonakshi Sinha, the better. Moving on...
The only good things in the movie are some of the action sequences and the small yet powerful turn by Sonali Bendre. She plays her part perfectly, and it was amazing seeing her on the big screen after such a long time. She looks beautiful.
I'm going with 3 out of 10 for the movie, an utter & colossal disappointment. I kept waiting for the movie to get better, but it didn't Note to film makers, write a script before you hire someone for the role.
Watching this film is like having a prostate exam, you know why you're there, but you don't know why you're really there.
Blue (2009)
Blue "Stinks" and sadly "Sinks", still feeling the 'Blue's about it.
Starring :- Sunjay Dutt
Akshay Kumar
Zayed Khan
Lara Dutta
Kylie Minogue
Director :- Anthony D'Souza
Rating :- * 1/2
Since the past one month or so wherever i go, be it a night club, or a wedding, or just usual hangout spots, i noticed the songs of "Blue" playing over 'n' over. That's called excellent publicity. It would do good to any movie, only if, with a BIG "IF", the movie is good, or at least decent. That is not the case with "Blue".
Excellent publicity can't do good for a really BAD and PATHETIC movie. When i first saw the promo of the movie i thought this might not be the most critically acclaimed film of the year but it should be a "Fun to watch popcorn movie". But no, it turns out to be a stinking affair, smellier than Mr Akshay Kumar's socks which he's wearing since his last successful film "Singh is Kinng" although that movie wasn't a good one, but still it was way better than "Blue".
First lets just get to the premise of the film. The plot revolves around the trio mainly Sunjay Dutt(Sagar), Akhshay Kumar(Aarav, Sagar's friend) and Zayed Khan(Sam, Sagar's younger brother). Also there is Lara Dutta(Mona, Sagar's better half) and Katrina Kaif(Nikki) and Rahul Dev(Gulshan).
Sagar and Aarav are friends, together they go fishing and have an occasional boxing face off. Aarav tries to convince Sagar to go treasure hunting with him, because only Sagar knows the whereabouts of it. But Sagar refuses due to the reason that his father lost his life while searching for that treasure and blames himself for his father's death.
The story cuts to Sam, who is in Malaysia doing bike races, he gets a job from Gulshan(Rahul Dev) to deliver a package, but he loses it on the way, now Gulshan wants either his package back or $50 million. Nikki(Katrina, Sam's love interest and also working with Gulshan( advices him to leave Malaysia and go somewhere else, so he goes to Bahamas to his elder brother Sagar, that's where the main story begins.
Coming to the main highlight of this film, the underwater sequences, believe me they were that good. Excellent lighting and camera angles and shots makes it look like an international affair. But that's the only thing good about "Blue". The action sequences are passable to say the least. No thrilling action sequence is to be found here. Only lame-money-spending-good-for-nothing kind of action sequences are there. Specifically the bike chase sequence, the one involving some 4-5 bikes and a train was so lame, the bikes which were supposed to be on the chase seems like they are out on a picnic and are grouping together to enjoy the sight-seeing, including the guy on the bike they were supposed to be chasing. If that doesn't make you shake your head in disbelief then the dialogs would definitely do that, for instance Aarav saying "Lets go take out the treasure from the sea", as if he's talking about going for window shopping and that too for a toothbrush. Also there's another one Mona saying "Can't we just talk peacefully with them?", even when she and Sagar are being attacked by armed men. These do work as "Unintentional jokes". And believe me there are many more.
Also the plot holes are so big you can virtually make Jupiter pass through it. For instance, the "So-Called" treasure which is lying in the bottom of the ocean is so mysterious that many people even doubt its existence and people who tried to take it out lost there lives, but our protagonist Sagar(Sanjay Dutt), sleepwalks his way through the ocean and finds out the treasure just like "that". Either he is a combination of Columbus and Sherlock Holmes or the director and his team of writers were too busy thinking about the cinematography part that they forgot about the minor details in the story.
Talking about the "so called" surprise ending of the film, the only surprise you will get is that you'll notice that most people are actually laughing at what had to be a serious moment in the film, "Unintentional Laughs" arise universally.
The second highlight of the movie is Lara Dutta, who is looking like a zillion-gazillion bucks, she rules the waves and many a hearts too. The perfect eye candy.
The cinematography is top grade, but under that glossy finish lies a decomposed chunk of wood, that is being eaten by termites and at the end what is left is that glossy finish with a BIG HOLE inside.
The music is average, although some notes are easy on the ears, but still considering A.R. Rahman is the music and background score director, the music is disappointing and so is the film.
And don't get me started on the script, like Akshay's previous outing "Kambakkht Ishq" the script is "Missing". Although at some points in the movie you feel like there's a decent script developing, but as soon as you think that, the director puts all your doubts aside and comes up with another blow up.
With holes that BIG, even the unsinkable Titanic sank, and sadly so does "Blue", but with the sinking it stinks too.
I go for * 1/2 out of five for director Anthony D'Souza's "Blue"
An opportunity lost, this film made me wonder why am I even reviewing it.
Under all that gloss lies a BIG HOLE that takes "Blue" down that smelly drainpipe which hasn't been cleaned since the medieval ages.
Watch it only when someone threatens to kill you for not watching it.
Kambakkht Ishq (2009)
Run for your life, Avoid the movie....
The movie we were all waiting for. The movie we thought would bring back luck for Akshay Kumar. The movie we thought would wash away previous failures of Akshay Kumar.
This just keeps getting better n bette....oh sorry worse n worse..... Akshay is trying to prove something, i think he's trying to prove if he can't be the best then why don't he be the worst. First there was Tashan, the the second movie in which i left the theater in the interval. I thought this has got to be the worst movie ever. But then there was Chandni Chowk to China, the movie which made tashan look like a decent movie, i thought Akshay has proved himself again. Also i was disappointed with the movie because it was directed by the same guy who directed my all time favorite movie Kal Ho Na Ho. What a letdown....sigh...
Then came Kambakht ishq, yes i know there was one "8X10 Tasveer" but this movie, kambakht ishq, makes it look like Oscar material. Serioulsy.
From the beginning to the very end this movie brought nothing but severe headache, although it was supposed to bring smile n cheers. Lets just don't talk about the script. Only one word "Missing".
Aftab n Amrita are about to get married, enter Akshay(Viraj, should have been a mirage) n Kareena(Simrita, the only thing i like about this movie other than the cinematography is kareena's characters name in the movie), they fight like children, although in the beginning it was kinda cute but then its too much for its own good.
They try to break the marriage of Aftab n Amrita but end up falling for each other with of course some over the top action scenes and some idiotic songs.
Sylvester Stallone was good, Denise Richards looked old but still beautiful.
The action scenes were over the top but sometimes good.
The jokes.....lets just not start it......PATHETIC, just as the movie is.
The award function was cool. Akhshay's speech was okay. But the rest of the movie should be flushed down the drain.
All that money used in the movie seems to be wasted, which could have been used in making 2-3 medium budget GOOD movies. We don't need such high budget crap, where the producer and director didn't even bother to spend little amount of that huge money to buy a good script, and also kudos to akshay kumar for not reading the script.
I go for ** out of 10 for Akshay Kumar's Kambakht Ishq. Kambakht Film.....aw i want my money back.
While it boasts some stylish action, Kambakkht Ishq suffers severely from an missing plot and over-direction.
Run for your life, Avoid the movie.
8 x 10 Tasveer (2009)
Beware!!!..donate your 150 bucks to a poor guy instead...u'll feel better
Now that's what we call a film ..errrr sorry a B-grade film.. Sux bigtym. The film looks like it was hurried for release, but that's not the case coz it has been ready for release for d past 5-6 months or so. Then why does the film look so unpolished?? Even there was no ample publicity for the film. Akshay Kumar was OK-OK but the rest of the cast really let it down. I wonder what was Aayesha Takia doing there. She only has a single expression on her face n dat of "uninterested" type. She seemed to be quite uninterested in the film. Action scenes were few, and the ones that were there didn't look convincing. The storyline could have been better. The script should have been developed. there's no element of surprise in the film and for a mystery film this is the end of thrills.
Also the fact that at the end the director and the scriptwriters choose to go the 80's and the 90's type of bollywood thriller movie. A long lost twin brother returning back even though there was a change here, the long lost brother turns evil and wow they thought they had something new in their hands. That really made me and many other people laugh out loud. Also i remember a same plot although not entirely but do you remember "Andaaz Apna Apna"?, yes the comedy caper starring Aamir and Salman Khan, now do you remember paresh rawal's character? aka the twins??, yes you got it, now you see, the director wanted this movie to be a laugh riot like "AAA" but what the hell was that?.
the first half of the movie was really quite decent. I really had some hopes while going back in after the interval, but how cheated i felt. The second half of the movie turned into a silly B-Grade bollywood thriller. I wish i had a photograph taken right before the script writing for this movie started, so that i could know who is behind this piece of crap.
I go for 2 out of 10 for Akshay Kumar's 8x10 Tasveer Watch it at your own risk or better go and watch a b-grade bollywood thriller, at least you won't have high expectations with that type of a movie.
Fast & Furious (2009)
Now that's what being FAST is about!!!
FAST..........FASTER and.......FASTEST.........all three words describe this one helluva action packed n pacey roller coaster ride........... The Movie opens to an exceedingly amazing action sequence where Dom n his friends, including Letty try to do what they are best at.......yup u right heist.........WOW!!! what a scene. Right after that the movie takes a serious path for a short while. Where Dom leaves Letty sleeping n goes away from her n goes to Panama. That's where he receives a bad news about someone's death(i won't disclose it) but it was a shock.......coz dat was d best character in d series. He then sets out to track down the one responsible. In comes Mr O'Connor looking like that something has changed and believe me it has changed for the better This 'New Model, Old Parts' is working. The action sequences are perfectly shot, Direction is cool, acting was amazing, Vin was cool as ever, the jokes were on the right place and in the right proportion. I thought it was better than Fast And The Furious(part 1).
Although in the fast paced movie the script wasn't given much emphasis. But who needs a detailed script if the screenplay is damn good and can keep you on the edge of your seat.
I go for 8 out of 10 for Fast and Furious 4.........The Fast just got Faster.....and how.
GO WATCH IT!!!........coz u won't regret......
