Requiem for a Dream (2000)
I've seen this movie once...
And I will never see it again. This is easily one of the best, most gut wrenching, powerful movies I have ever seen. Though I had never even thought about doing heroin in the first place, this film put me on the negative 100 side of never ever ever doing heroin. The acting is amazing and the images gruesome; the whole feel of the movie is very overwhelming as you try to deal with what is happening on screen. This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart. Every person I know who has seen it, including myself, has said essentially the same thing, "It was a great, well done film, but I don't ever want to see it again." I definitely give this movie a 10 out of 10, and it should be seen at least once by everyone, but if I never see it again, it'll be too soon.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
Always great when there's nothin' goin' on on a Saturday night!
I have known and loved MST3K for years. It is something I have delighted in with friends, boyfriends, heck, even my mother loves it. I will never get over how innovative, entertaining, and timeless this show was. Anything else I say will be repeating what so many have said before me, so I will leave all who read this with a few of my favorite quotes from my favorite eps... know what they're all from? "Johnny Mathis!" "If these guys get any more soul we're gonna have to order out for greens." "I am a tool." "Sorry about my face."
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
BEWARE!!
"Jeepers Creepers" is none of these things: A good horror movie. A sorta good horror movie. A mediocre horror movie. A cheesy horror movie. A bad yet fun horror movie that one rents on a Saturday night when one cannot decide on any other horror movie.
"Jeepers Creepers" is, in fact, one of the most horrendously awful movies I have ever seen in my life. To this day I still cannot believe I wasted 3 dollars and 75 minutes of my life in renting this movie. It is trash of the upmost level. The woman singing "Jeepers Creepers" the whole time was easily laughable. Now, I can go for a cheesy/bad horror flick almost any day, heck, I found "Leprauchan in the Hood" oddly enjoyable, but this was just pain pain pain from beginning to end. Stay away from this movie and its sequel if at all possible.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
A Fabulous Film!
I just finished watching Amelie, and I absolutely loved it! I love this director anyways; if you haven't managed to catch "City of Lost Children," that is also a must see. The only word I can use to describe the images this movie presents is sumptuous... every single frame is filled with some of the most stunning visuals I have ever seen. At first I didn't think I was that affected by the story until the halfway point when I realized the knot in my stomach was not from my dinner. At 1 hr. 53 min. on my DVD player came the moment that sealed the deal and stole my heart. An excellent excellent film for those who love foreign films and those who simply love great moviemaking.
Lurking Fear (1994)
Bad, bad, "bad"
I am always up for a "bad" horror flick. It is generally entertaining, what with pointing out inconsistencies and laughing at the bad monster effects. However, I was not laughing when I saw "Lurking Fear." This was easily the worst "bad" horror movie I've ever seen! The inconsistencies were atrocious, the effects particularly poorly done, and the foley... don't even get me started! As far as Full Moon movies go, this one is a particularly bad example. I have only one "lurking" question remaining... What happened to the baby?
