Insidious (I) (2010)

Worst in Years!

I always have to laugh out loud when people say that either this film scared them, or they enjoyed in the least. I'm sorry, but it's a natural reaction. This film was recommended to me by someone who saw it in the theater, so I went with a filmmaker friend of mine figuring I was going to have the crap scared out of me, and I found myself not only laughing in the theater, but he and I were exchanging looks like 'really...this is what we paid 11 bucks for?". Although maybe some thought the premise was original, when they reveal what is happening to the kid, I had to chuckle. We both were so disappointed in this, that when I see what the film cost to make, and what it made in theaters, it makes me sad, since there are so many other better films out there that are indie horror films more deserving financial success. You want to see a great indie horror film, check out the french film "Inside". Much better and very scary. I don't post many reviews, only when I feel strongly about a film, and this film is horrible, laughable and I'd caution you on wasting your time on it.

Snatch (2000)

Here is a movie I never cease to enjoy, the colorful characters, wittiest dialog ever and winding plot are the best. I wish Guy Ritchie would make more films like this, I know others have attempted, but few come close. Although Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is fantastic as well. I was steered away from the film because of the title, but once you watch it, you'll understand why the name. Brad Pitt's performance is one of his best albeit a small role, and this breakout role for Jason Statham is the reason he is a major star today. There are other great characters like Bullet Tooth Tony by Vinnie Jones and other characters that will be hard to forget. I think if I could wear out a DVD, this is one that has been put through the paces. Anyone who has seen this is likely to have seen it a few times, and if you are 'movie guy' can likely quote at least 10-20 lines from the rich dialog.

End of the Road (I) (2011)
10/10
Excellent Indie Film, even if you don't like ghost hunter shows.

I've had the opportunity to review the screener before the film was released, and was pleasantly surprised. End of the Road has some names you'll know like Doug Jones and Robert Picardo, but also some I've never heard of. At first this film seems like it's going to deliver just what is expected, a film about some ghost hunters, but without spoiling anything, I can tell you "watch it til the end", because I'm guessing you won't have seen it coming. I doubt this film had a big budget to work with, but it seems like they made every penny count. Really solid performances and story without all the H'wood cheesiness from the studio films. Check it out.
